Matt. 24
JESUS HAD ALREADY PREPARED THEM FOR 70 ad BY TELLING THEM
TO FLEE. HISTORY REVEALS THAT ALL CHRISTIANS FLED TO PELLA.
WHY WRITE A WHOLE BOOK ABOUT SOMETHING JESUS HAD
ALREADY TOLD THEM ABOUT? HE TOLD THEM WHAT WOULD
HAPPEN AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT.
WHY WRITE A WHOLE BOOK TO THE PEOPLE IN
ASIA TO COMFORT THE PEOPLE IN PELLAABOUT
THE BATTLE OF THE JEWS IN JERUSALEM?
This battle began
in 66 and ended 3
years later!

Eusebius refers to this by saying, owing to
a certain revelation given to holy men
among them, the whole body of the
church, before the war, removed across
the Jordan to Pella, and dwelt there insafety during those troublous times. (Hist.
Eccl., iii, 5)

600 miles
John wrote Revelation to these seven churches of Asia
which are six hundred (600) miles away. Did he do it to
comfort the Christians in Pella about the destruction of
Jerusalem?
NOTE: The one thing we know
for sure is that he wrote
to the seven churches in Asia.
What was their problem?
Was it Jerusalems destruction?

WHAT DID THE BOOK OF REVELATION DO FOR THE CHRISTIANS IN
JUDEA MORE THAN THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS DID? HIS TEACHING
SAVED THEM! HE TOLD THEM TO FLEE, AND THEY DID!

IF IT IS ABOUT JERUSALEM, THEN THE CHURCH IS LEFT IN THE DARK
ABOUT THE BIGGEST BATTLE IT WOULD FACE ROME.
IN THREE YEARS THIS BATTLE WAS OVER
AND THE WHOLE WORLD COULD SEE THAT
GOD HAD KEPT HIS PROMISE
BUT THE GREAT BATTLE WITH ROME WAS
JUST BEGINNING. WAS DANIEL RIGHT?
WOULD THE CHURCH WIN? THAT IS WHAT
THE BOOK OF REVELATION IS ABOUT.

1. The battle is really between Christ & Satan
2. Christ will win the battle & Rome will lose
3. Christians just need to remain faithful and
Christ will take care of the rest.
4. Even if you have to die for Christ (beheaded
by Rome), you will reign with him in heaven.

Tiberius
14-37
All prayers were addressed to Tiberius. They (the
Senators) raised their hands to the gods, to the statue of
Augustus and to the knees of Tiberius, when he ordered a
document to be produced and read. (Hailey, p. 63)
Caligula
37-41
He began his reign with moderation, but after an illness he
became mentally unbalanced and became one of the most
cruel and debased of men. He assumed the role of a god,
and insisted on being treated as a god----sending for the
most revered or artistically famous statues of the Greek
deities (including that of Juppiter at Olympia) and having
their heads replaced by his own. He established a shrine of
himself as God, with a priest, the costliest possible victims,
and a life-sized golden image, which was dressed every day
in clothes identical with those he happened to be wearing.
Caligula offended the Jews by commanding his statue to be
set up in the temple at Jerusalem, but he died before theorder cold be carried out.
Claudius
51-54
Claudius restored the Jew rights revoked by Caligula,
however he drove the Jews from Rome (Acts 18:2). He gave
Agrippa, grandson of Herod the Great, the Palestinian
kingdom formerly controlled by his grandfather.
Nero
54-68
He was fearful of his mother and half brother taking the throne so he
killed them both along with his wife. His life was filled with crimes and
immoralities of every conceivable character. Nero enjoyed having the
populace sacrifice to his image and wanted the people to think of him as a
god. It is said that in the entry of his golden house stood a bronze stature
of Nero as sun god, taller than the Statue of Liberty.
Nero is primarily remembered by the fire that destroyed a great part of
Rome. He blamed the Christians and used it to persecute those in Rome
severely, however it appears to be confined to Rome and not the whole
empire. It is believed by some that Nero outlawed the religion of Christ
and said it is not lawful for a Christian to exist. Whether this is true of nothis rule paved the way future emperors to make Christianity as an illicit
or forbidden religion in the empire.
Domitian
81-96
Hailey said, In Domitian the spirit of Nero was reincarnated and
soon his cruelties and crimes knew no bounds. Men of nobility were
put to death and he was discourteous and presumptuous. His vanity
and arrogance are well expressed in the salutation with which he
would have his letters begin. Our Lord God instructs you to doOur Lord God instructs you to do
this!this! Lord God became his regular title. He was conscious of the
feelings toward him and spend his last days in fear of death. A
conspiracy was formed and he was slain by the steward of his niece,
Domitilla. After his death the senators had his images torn down and
smashed, decreeing that all inscriptions referring to him must be
effaced and all records of his reign obliterated.
