While the Romans were fighting the war there, the Antemnates’ army saw their chance and attacked Rome’s borders. Roman soldiers came out immediately and beat them while they were spread out in the fields. The sound of the first attack made the enemy run away, and then their town was captured. When Romulus came back, very pleased with his two victories, his wife Hersilia had been touched by the begging of the abducted women. She asked him to forgive their parents and let them be citizens so that Rome could grow in peace. Romulus agreed happily. Then came the war against the Crustimini. This was even less of a fight, because they had lost their courage when the others were beaten. Roman settlers were sent to both places, but more wanted to go to Crustumeria because people said it had fertile land. Also, many people moved from there to Rome, especially the parents of the abducted women.
