Ex 1:8-14, 22; Mt 10:34–11:1
I f you weren’t a part of it, this past week...you should’ve been. Our annual Vacation Bible School was truly awe inspiring...not just because it was one of the biggest groups of children we have hosted, or because the number of tweens/teens and adults were amazingly giving of their time and talents, but because the children were a constant reminder of the innocence and joy we are called to exude for our world. Many thanks to Joanne Reich, Colleen McVicker, Annie Walter, our station leaders and all those who helped lead these children...or rather, allowed the children to lead them.
I went to visit a parishioner, Helen, who was not feeling well. When we talked about the children and VBS, she shared with me a favored children’s song she learned in 1933 at Our Lady of Sorrows School that came back to her as she was recuperating:“To Jesus Heart all burning - With fervent love for men - Our hearts with fondest yearning - Shall raise the joyful strain. While ages course along - Blest be with loudest song - The Sacred Heart of Jesus - By every heart and tongue. And fondly we’ll receive Him - The Bridegroom of our souls - No more by sin to grieve Him - Or fl y His sweet control. O Sacrament Most Holy - O Sacrament Divine - All praise and all thanksgiving - Be every moment Thine.”(taught by her music teacher, Miss Motley)(Helen apologizes if some of the words might be wrong, but after all it was 86 years ago).
Why do I bring all this up? Because what we teach our children when they are young can come back as an adult when they need it most. During these summer days, encourage your children to read Scripture and the essential tenets of our Catholic faith. Teach and inspire them to sing songs of praise and worship when you’re in the car or running around. If it becomes part of their life when they are young, they will open to wanting it when they are grown up and too busy with so many other distractions. Pray for our teens this weekend as they venture to Franciscan University to do an older version of VBS. Soooo, what about you? How will you dance and sing and praise Him...to stay His child? Pax, Fr. Bline

GRIEF & LOSS SHARING GROUPThe July monthly share meeting will be held at Queen of Heaven Church in classroom 1 on July 18th from 7:00-8:30 p.m. This is a free event open to all who are grieving a loss of any kind, and will include a brief presentation, time for discussion/sharing and light refreshments. Our topic will be "Grief after the death of a spouse." For more information or questions, call/text Ellen at 330-801-0463 or Ann at 330-612-5234.
VOCATION CRUCIFIXThe parish can always use more volunteers to receive the Vocation Crucifix. Vocation prayers are always needed and appreciated! Please call the parish office at 330-644-2225 to have your name added to the list. Treva & Frank Dillick received the Vocation Crucifix this weekend.
REST IN PEACEPlease pray for the soul of Joseph Hoffman, father of parishioner Stacy Papp. May perpetual light shine upon him and may the Lord console his family and friends.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATIONAn adorer is needed on Fridays, 1:00-2:00. If you are able to help, please call Joanne at 330-338-4810. The Lord will bless you in many ways.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL “THANK YOU”“Lord Make Us Instruments” was a huge success. Thank you to all who volunteered their time and talents: teachers, department heads, youth volunteers, skit performers, decorators, nursery volunteers and of course the participants. Thank you all! Now we go forth to be God’s instruments in the world.
BLOOD DRIVESt. Francis de Sales will hold our third blood drive of the year this Thursday, July 18th from 1:00-7:00 p.m. Because of the “extreme shortage” of blood, the Red Cross has increased our quota to 78 pints! Summertime is always a critical time. Because of vacations, the need goes up and donations go down. Please help us reach our goal and save lives!
"THANK YOU" FROM ST. VINCENT DE PAULThank you so much for your generous donations to support our St. Vincent de Paul food pantry. They truly make a difference to families in our communities. You help us help others. We are so grateful!
HOLY ANGELSWhy would it be good to pray the Stations of the Cross at times other than during Lent? Is it possible for us to console Our Lord? If so, what would that look like? What does it mean to offer things up? How do we see things with the eyes of faith? How can our Guardian Angels help us with this? You are invited to hear a talk about the Holy Angels on Wednesday, July 17th at 6:00 p.m. in the Upper Room. There will be a discussion from 7:15-8:30 on consoling the Lord and on drawing strength from the Eucharist – how our Guardian Angels help us. For those in formation for consecration to their Guardian Angel, we are discussing letters 10 and 11.
WORLD MISSIONS APPEALFrom the beginning, the Church has obeyed Christ’s command to go out and preach the Gospel to everyone in the world. One way we at St. Francis support these missionaries and the young churches throughout the world is by hosting a priest who has dedicated his ministry to the missions to share his experience and make a Mission Appeal. Next weekend, we will be hosting Fr. Michael Moore, a priest of St. Patrick’s Missionary Society (also known as the “The Saint Patrick Fathers”). The missionaries of the St. Patrick’s Missionary Society began in 1932, dedicated to fulfilling Jesus’ call to share the Gospel throughout the whole world. They serve in Nigeria, Kenya, Brazil, Malawi, Grenada, Zambia, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Cameroon and Homelands of South Africa. There are 291 priests serving in these missions, with more than 50 seminarians in formation throughout the world. Many of the seminarians and priests are in great financial need to be able to continue in formation and ministry due to the great poverty of the communities in which they serve. We will have a second collection during Mass to support the missionary work of the St. Patrick Fathers. Your generosity and prayers are greatly appreciated.
