PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

IBM - Research Triangle Park, NC 1988 - 2012

Performance Application Tester 2005 – 2012 Tested IBM’s Rational Performance Tester application to ensure it meet all design specs Designed complicated multimode systems that included web servers, DBs, WAS servers, load

balancers as well as many other applications. Worked with customer sites to implement Rational Performance Tester

Web Tester (IT Specialist) 1999 – 2005 Currently working with on ongoing GMAC project a technical lead. Helped design, stress and

performance test GMAC Financial Tools, Saturn and Smart Auction using Mercury’s Load Runner. Responsible for training new testers and overseeing the script creation for all projects.

Helped Design and run the TryScience web site for performance and stress capabilities. The test lasted 3 weeks and helped successfully launch the IBM supported Site.

Built an Apache Web server with Web Site to document hardware/software setups and links to other IGS sites. Used Front Page 2000 and Netscape Composer as well as picture editors.

Worked to create working relationships with the Cisco and Nortel partnerships. Worked to find and create an Interoperability test lab in Raleigh NC for the newly created

practice. This work included the lab design, overseeing construction, equipment and furniture acquisition and configuration of lab equipment.

Router Interoperability Tester 1996 - 1999Tested the interoperability of all NHD routers against Cisco and Bay routers, as well as other IBM routers and MVS host systems and posted results on a large intranet web site. Worked with all protocols including APPN, ATM, DLSw, FR, IPX, ISDN, L2TP, Network Dispatcher, TCP/IP, X.25, NCP and VTAM. Setup and configured 8260, 8265 and 2220 switches and other supporting infrastructure.

• Led interoperability testing of NHD routers against OEM routers such as Cisco and Bay network. All parameters were tested against all protocols and new functions.

• Created and designed a web site, http://v15web.raleigh.ibm.com/user/jrking/interop.htm/, to document all router interoperability configurations, tests, and results as well as other lab configurations.

• Developed a large network of contacts which facilitated the design, equipment acquisition and setup of 3 separate networking environments in NHD division testing labs, including MVS Hosts, Lans and Wans.

• Support the LAN Server environment for OS/2, Win95, NT, AIX and Dos systems. Lab Support Lead 1995 - 1996

Hired and led a team of 6 technicians to support the main test labs in IBM’s NHD division which included LAN Server support, all wiring and test cell setup, parts ordering and an inventory system. Introduced UTP Cat 5 wiring and a fiber tray and patch system into all labs.

• Maintained a LAN Server environment with over 200 users, 8 printers, code loading support, tools support, diskette making support, various programs to support testing and test code. Supported OS/2, Win95, NT, AIX and Dos systems in the LAN Server environment.

• Designed an inventory tracking system using Lotus Approach DB. This system tracked over 20 fields, used a scanner which automatically uploaded to the DB, integrated labeling system and canned reports.

Network Analyst 1993 - 1995Provided technical support for various IBM development and test projects which included Servers, UNIX, DOS, and OS/2 and entire lab wiring and support for ATM, TCP/IP, Ethernet and Token Ring.

• Designed and implemented an IBM LAN Server and AFS UNIX based client server network which supported development and test environments for interactive TV and ATM products, significantly reducing test and development cycles as well as DASD expense.

• Designed, installed, and configured TCP/IP, Token Ring, Ethernet and ATM networks which included, switching hubs and bridges that linked UNIX, OS/2 and DOS systems. Also, provided hardware and software support and training for the lab and development areas.

Systems Programmer 1988 - 1993 Setup and supported SNA networks connecting MVS, VM/GCS, UNIX, and PS/2 systems used in the development of IBM’s Communications Manager and AIX/SNA Services products.

• Designed, installed, and customized a multi-domain SNA/SNI network on both VM and MVS operating systems. Interfaced with designers, programmers, and testers to upgrade the SNA network.

• Redesigned the MVS system and DASD environment realizing a $250,000 savings to IBM’s test lab. Recommended the purchase and supervised the installation of a V.24, V.35 and X.21 Bytex Communication Switch to enabled testing of UNIX and PS/2s with host based communication devices.

• Backup support for a test LAN environment which included bridges, routers and switching hubs. Also created a Host training program, systems support test plan and users guide which documented a detailed layout and use of the entire host test system. This streamlined host testing by 25%.

Clemson University - Clemson, SC 1984 - 1988

Systems Analyst, DAPSDirected the development, implementation and administration of the Traffic and Vehicle Registration System in an online DB environment. Designed and taught classes to instruct Clemson’s new programmers. Named to both Technical Advisory and Quality Assurance committees which evaluated design and program. Co-designed a new DAPS front-end driver to automatically link all on-line systems with a command and menu driver that streamlined system access time by 25%. Created skeleton programs to standardize programming.

EDUCATIONM.S. in Computer Science, Clemson University, Clemson, SC, 1987

GPA of 3.54. Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society member. Worked full time. B.A. in Business Administration, Hanover College, Hanover, Indiana, 1977
