•  Cyber-Physical Systems in urban supply: Service suppliers in a town or city use a common logistical

infrastructure – a Smart Grid for urban supply.

•  Cyber-Physical Systems in goods transportation:

More efficient use of the existing infrastructure, more rational use of resources, intelligent logistics premises, better planning and control

of the process chain, active interplay in the exchange of information

with downstream transportation systems and infrastructures.

•  Variable logistics systems: In the future, only variable, self-adapting, 'cellular' logistics systems

will offer the flexibility required.

•  The Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) in

Dortmund is one of the world's largest research establishments in the logistics sector.
