Basics Maintenance of Certification (MOC)

Process 2014

Enroll in MOC at http://abim.org

Earn 100 Self-Evaluation points in 2 categories every 5 years

20 Medical Knowledge points

20 Practice Assessment points

60 points in either Medical Knowledge or Practice

Performance

Points can apply to more than 1 certificate (e.g., internal

medicine and nephrology)

Complete a patient safety module and patient survey module

Schedule and pass the MOC examination once every 10 years

To complete recertification:

Needs 60 points, at least 20 in PA, before end of 2016 (at least 1 activity before end of 2015)

Secure exam before end of 2016

Will be enrolled in MOC through 2022 (10 years from full payment in 2012)

Still need 100 points, starting now, by end of 2018, according to new MOC requirements (the 40 points in 2012-2013 don’t count towards this)

Requirements for Advancement to Fellowship

Basic Requirements Certification in internal medicine or neurology.

ACP member in practice or a subspecialty fellowship for at least two years since the completion of residency.

Active medical license, if in practice.

Sponsoring letters or sponsoring forms from two current MACPs/FACPs and recommendation by local Governor.

Documentation of continuing scholarship and professional accomplishments.
