Robert Frost’s Background Born in San Francisco in 1874 and died in 1963 Moved to New England when he was 11 years
old Attended Dartmouth and Harvard (He never
officially graduated) Spent a few years in England Met Edward Thomas, an English poet who
inspired Frost Became famous in England and America Came back to the U.S and lived in MA and VT Spend time as a teacher and a poet
His Literary Period:Romanticism
Lasted from 1800 to 1860Originated from New England areas such as
Boston and PhiladelphiaValues intuition, imagination, inspiration,
innocence, and inner experienceOther Romanticists: Ralph Waldo Emerson,

Major Work 1: “The Road Not Taken”
A poem that is about a character who does not know where to go between two roads.
The Roads symbolizes choices in one's life

conflict in choosing between two roads
Major Work 2: “Mending Wall”
Two main characters are appeared: the narrator and his neighbor. The narrator wants to break the wall that was built a long times ago but his neighbor believes that his wall would help to keep a good relationship
Extended metaphor is utilized
Contains elements of romantic values: imagination and maintaining the nature
