Roadrunner Express
Dear Students, Parents and Friends,
Surrarrer has been rated “Excellent with Distinction” by the Ohio Department of
Education. Our students passed all 10 indicators on the Ohio Achievement
Assessment, had a Performance Index score of 104, met the criteria for Adequate
Yearly Progress, and exceeded the expected gains. Congratulations to all teachers,
staff, parents, and students. This great accomplishment did not just happen by
chance. It took a lot of hard work and dedication from you all!
With the change and constant fluctuation in weather, please make sure you review
our recess policy on page 3. I wanted to thank everyone for all your support with
our Dance-A-Thon! It was a really fun and amazing event that completely
benefits our kids.
Please take a look at all the upcoming events. If you still need your ticket to
Movie Night please stop by the office. Looking to get involved and volunteer at
school, then consider volunteering for C.O.S.I. More details can be found on page
4. Please note the Blood Drive on December 10th . It is a great opportunity to help
many people and will only take about an hour of your time.
Don’t wait too long to sign up for Kalahari Night. This is open to all including
your extended families and friends. You can make this a really fun event!
As always, if there is anything I can ever do for you please let me know.
Mr. Boodheshwar
What a fantastic school year we have gotten off to at Surrarrer! Between all the fabulous events, and the exciting
honor of being named, “Excellent with Distinction”, I’m so proud to be a part of such a dynamic school, and grateful
for the experiences that my children are having at Surrarrer. October was a very busy month, and November
promises to be the same for our children and families.
November 6th
, there will be no school due to Election Day. Please remember to vote for issue 116, the Strongsville
Schools Bond. This is such an important issue for our school system and the greater Strongsville community, and
every vote counts!
Thursday, November 8th
, we will host a special evening meeting of the Surrarrer PTA. Please make plans to attend!
The meeting will be held:
Thursday, November 8th
7:00 p.m.
Surrarrer Library
November 15th
and 16th
will be Surrarrer’s family movie nights. Make plans to enjoy a great evening with your
family filled with laughs and fun. Be sure to bring a blanket and pillows! Thursday, November 15th
, the movie
“Bedtime Stories” will be show, and Friday, November 16th
, “The Lorax” is on tap.
November 20th
, COSI will be coming to Surrarrer. This always popular event allows kids to experience science in an
hands-on and entertaining setting.
I mentioned it at our October PTA meeting, and I’ll repeat it again: We are so fortunate at Surrarrer to have so many
amazing volunteers. This month, special thanks go out to:
Beth Puzzitello, Diane Chesney, and Barbara Dutton for a fantastic Book Fair. The funds raised at the book
fair allow our classroom teachers and our library to purchase more books for our children.
Nikki Tabor for organizing a fun skating party at Brunswick Skate Station.
Adrianne Bailey, Diane Chesney, Barbara Dutton, Tracy Grauel, and Kendra Jeske for helping surprise Mr.
Boodheshwar and the Surrarrer Staff by decorating the school entryway in honor of receiving the “Excellent

COSI ON WHEELS
COSI on Wheels is coming to Surrarrer on Tuesday, November 20th. This year’s
program is Exploring Ecology. This program is designed to allow the students to explore
the outdoors. It will bring the science of prairies, forests, rivers, and wetlands to our
school. The students will have the opportunity to investigate animal adaptations, life
cycles, and learn how parts of an ecosystem are connected
The day will consist of a 45-minute assembly followed by a day of hands-on activities
that enhance science inquiry skills and encourage continued learning. Each grade level
will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities in their designated time slot.
This day is always filled with fun and learning. Parent volunteers are needed to help with
the hands-on activities. If you have any questions about the program, or, would like to
volunteer, please contact Lisa Dalessandro at [email protected]/572-2888, or, Kendra
Jeske at [email protected]/238-2600.
The Scholastic Book Fair was another big success this year. Our total sales were $6,618.59 with our PTA earning
a profit of $1,529.65. In addition to the cash profit we earned $450.00 in Scholastic Dollars that can be spent on
books and materials for our Media Center. As a result of the All for Books Program, each classroom teacher was
able to spend $120.00 on new books for their classroom libraries and Scholastic will be donating $1,633.60 in
books to children in need. Thank you to all of the families who purchased books for their children, donated
books to the teachers, and gave money towards the All for Books Program. Your generosity is greatly
appreciated.

Did you know….Volunteer Hours are at the heart of our PTA?
Volunteer hours are defined as time spent engaged in PTA business, such as attending meetings, doing committee
work, or working at PTA functions. We report our group's volunteer hours to the Ohio PTA each year to maintain
our non-profit status.
All PTA members are encouraged to turn in volunteer hours! New this year, any person who submits volunteer
hours before the general meeting will be entered to win prizes each month. If you are unable to attend the PTA
meeting, turn in a volunteer hour form to the PTA, c/o the main office, or email your hours to volunteer coordinator
Diane Chesney ([email protected]) and an entry form will be completed for you – you don’t need to be
present to win.
What qualifies for volunteer hours?
Service: Time spent volunteering in the classroom, school, or library, including for holiday parties. Time
discussing PTA events on the phone or in meetings. Shopping for and preparing refreshments for PTA meetings,

math superstars, special person’s breakfast. Time spent reading the Surrarrer PTA newsletter. The majority of
volunteer hours fall into the service category.

Boxtops and Labels for Education, Market Day, Target/Heinen’s/Giant Eagle, recycling cartridges.
