ROAD VICTIMS TRUST VALUES
The Road Victims Trust was founded in 2003 and is registered with the Charity Commission registration number 1105399. The principles and whole ethos of the RVT reflect a primary and compelling aspiration to provide personal support to all those affected by the trauma caused by serious road collisions. We value:
Supporting our clients through their grieving process, identifying and responding to their needs.
Meeting our obligations and delivering our promises. Caring for the emotional and physical
well-being of staff and volunteers. Equality of opportunity, diversity, honesty, openness and integrity in all that we do. Making the best use of our resources.

BECOME A FRIEND
FRIENDS OF THE ROAD VICTIMS TRUST
The Friends of the Road Victims Trust are a team of volunteers that support the important work of the Trust. The Road Victims Trust does not receive any statutory funding. All costs are raised by grants, donations and fundraising events. Through the generosity of others we are able to provide all our support services free of charge.
But we do need your help
Will you consider becoming a Friend? Friends of the Road Victims Trust can help in both promoting our work and fundraising to support victims. Your regular help as a Friend of the Trust will help us to continue to provide our support to victims of fatal road collisions. As a Friend of the RVT we will regularly update you on the work of the Trust and we can provide you with the opportunity to participate in various activities. By joining the Friends of the RVT, you will be making a valuable contribution to supporting victims.

BECOME A TRUSTEE OR VOLUNTEER
BECOMING A TRUSTEE I have never been involved in a fatal road traffic collision, or known anyone that was, and until I started working with the RVT I hadn’t given much thought to the traumatic and far-reaching effect this has on the lives of the people involved. From working with the team on the development of a database system I came to understand the importance of their role in helping people through the kind of dreadful experience that could happen to anyone. I observed the caring and professional approach they take to helping people and I wanted to help too. Before I became a trustee Tony Parker (Chief Executive) gave me a copy of ‘The Good Trustee Guide’ to read. It says trustees are people who are entrusted to look after money, or other resources, to ensure they are used effectively to achieve the purpose for which they are given. I see being a trustee as being much more than that though – it is doing everything I can to support the fantastic work the team do to ease the suffering of the people they work with. Why not contact the Road Victims Trust to find out more about the trust and getting involved? Pat Whittome Trustee
COUNSELLING VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Qualified or in training
For a valuable and challenging role, supporting those affected by fatal road collisions.
Our free training and supervision will support you in developing your skills.
Our training course is 50 hours and held over two months on Wednesday evenings and 4 Saturdays.
For further information call Rose or Frances 01234 843345
We are an Equal Opportunities organisation and welcome members of minority groups.
I am delighted to have become Chair of the Trustees in December 2009 and can only hope that I do as good a job as my predecessor Clifton, I will certainly try my best. It is good news for me and the work of the Trust in general that Clifton has agreed to remain as a Trustee. In addition we have been able to secure the services of two new Trustees, Martyn Bradish and Pat Whittome, both of whom bring new skills and fresh ideas to the Trust. I take up the reins at a really exciting time as our expansion of services in Hertford-shire gathers speed with the new office in Hitchin established and the first training for additional volunteers to cover Hertfordshire planned.
The next twelve months promise to be a challenge (in the face of a difficult financial environment) as we build our services into Hertfordshire and continue the long established service already offered across Bed-fordshire.
I know the Trustees, staff and volunteers will all pull together for the sake of the road victims in our coun-ties, please support those efforts in whatever way you can.

CLIENT SUPPORT
The Coordinators and Counselling Volunteers provide free emotional and practical support to those people affected by fatal road collisions who are resident in Bedfordshire. Each victim is supported for as long as it is useful and can include support during the police investigation which can last 4 - 6 months; the Inquest which can occur between 6 - 12 months after the collision; and criminal proceedings which can occur up to 24 months following the collision. The Counselling Volunteers are integral to the whole work of the Trust and quite simply without their commitment we could not provide such comprehensive support to victims.

TREASURERS REPORT 2009 / 2010
The year commenced with a financial plan that expected that we would use part of the reserves we had created in earlier years to invest in personnel and systems in Hertfordshire. The aim is as far as possible, to replicate the support service levels currently being offered in Bedfordshire to road victims in Hertfordshire. We have largely achieved that, although our reserves have been depleted further than we originally planned. Fundraising in the current financial situation of the country has been difficult and lower than expected and we have not yet been able to at-tract long term support such as that provided by the Lottery funds. However, although we cannot yet see a clear path to achieve our 5 year targets, we remain confident that our current financial situation coupled with our future plans will get us into a position where we can plan for a future expansion of our service. I would like to thank all of our volunteers and staff for their efforts, they are all incredibly committed and passionate in their support for individuals and organisations large and small. Our supporters, are also to be thanked, without them and their belief in road victims there would be no Road Victims Trust.
Robert Panton The following is a brief summary of the Trust accounts, but may not be sufficiently detailed to allow a full understanding of our financial af-fairs. For further information, the full accounts and the auditor’s report thereon should be consulted.
