1. Are You Able To Perform a

DR Test?

Does your service provider allow testing from backups or replicas or

both?

Do you have an environment to test?

How much manual labor is involved in testing?

Does it cost you money to test and how much?

Will you receive a DR Test or Drill Report After Testing?





2. What To Do BEFORE You Test

VMs for which you plan to perform planned failover must be successfully replicated at least once

VM replicas must be in the Ready state

Ensure customer has Domain Controller backed up and part of the DR environment

You will need to have a clear understanding of how to access DR environment (Remote desktop, Website, VPN ...)

If you are replicating, have you pre configured a failover plan?

3a. What To Do During Testing

Example: Failing over to a VM replica to a Cloud Service Provider

Powering up the VM is the only required step

VPN connection is established automatically via the Network Extension

Appliance

Don’t need any additional configurations or extra settings because replicas

have exactly the same configuration as their source VMs

Can failback to an earlier replica state up to 28 days

A: Launch Planned Failover Wizard

Performance depends on the configuration of your DR site

Leverage a cloud service provider for Op-EX cost model and resources on demand

4. What Do I Do After?

Safely undo failover and switch back to the production VM in its pre-failover state

All changes that occurred on the VM while it was in a failover state will be discarded

Data center migration and planned maintenance

- a planned failover synchronizes all changes from your source servers that occurred since the last replication jobs run to the replicas

- Once you finish running the wizard, Veeam will fail over to replicas and simultaneously turn off your source VMs.

An engineer will do a pre DR Test check to ensure replicated jobs are healthy and VM’s are in good testing condition

While managing the DR test and testing environment the engineer can help trouble shoot any network, infrastructure or server issues

Most importantly a VMCE engineer can properly identify any holes or missing elements that would ensure a smooth failover in the event of a true DR environment
