INTRODUCTIONTRAFFIC ENGINEERING:-

The branch of engineering which deals with planning and geometric design of street ,highways abutting lands and operation traffic system to achieve safe ,economical, convinient & efficient movement of person and goods….

FACTORS AFFECTING TRAFFIC :

1} The RoadUser

2} The vehicle

3} The Roadway

4} The Environment

Page 5: Road and traffic control

Drivers of various types of vehicles and pedestrians are known as road user.

Vehicles are classified as: 1. Motorised 2. Non Motorised

The Roadways type , riding quality, maintenance , surface , texure ,light reflection ,

friction , drainage etc are inflencing the traffic.

The environment considered for temperature , heat , cold, fog, mist, rainfall etc

Density is the number of vehicles occupying a unit length of lane

roadway at a given instant .

Traffic Capacity is the ability of a roadway to accomodate traffics

volume.

The Time interval between the passenger of successive

vehicles moving in the same lane and measured from head as

they pass on the road is known as time headway.

The traffic distance between successive vehicles moving on the

same line measured from head at any instance is known as

space headway.

TRAFFIC OPERATION

Traffic regulation should cover all aspects of control of

vehicles, drivers ,pedestrians, flow accidents etc .

A. REGULATORY SIGNSRegulatory or mandatory signs are Ments to inform the road user of certain laws, regulations and

prohibition.

B) Warning Signs:

Warning or cautionary sings are used to warn the road user

of certain hazardous condition that exist on adjacent to the

road way.

C) Information Signs:

These sign are use to guide the road user along rules ,

inform them destination and provide with information to make

travel easier, safe and pleasant.

TRAFFIC SIGNS

Traffic signals are control devices which

could alternately direct the traffic to stop

and proceed at intersection using red and

green traffic light signals automatically
