FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSCan I meet with an advisor before I apply? Ì If possible, please consider attending an information session as we do not have any advisors available to personally assist

prospective students with general questions. These sessions allow prospective students to get detailed information about the USF bachelor’s degrees in nursing. We offer info sessions live in Tampa several times each semester to try and accommodate everyone’s busy schedule. The list of upcoming information sessions can be found at: http://health.usf.edu/nursing/advising

Ì In addition to our information sessions, the USF College of Nursing website is a great resource for information about the program (http://health.usf.edu/nursing/academics/rnbs). There are tabs that detail the admission requirements, application process and deadlines, and curriculum for the RN-BS program.

Can someone review my transcripts before I apply? Ì The first opportunity for evaluation of transcripts is when a student applies for general admission through the USF Office of

Undergraduate Admissions. Unfortunately, there are no prescreening services that will identify what is transferable before applying to USF. Once admitted, an RN academic advisor will review how USF Undergraduate Admissions has evaluated any applicable transfer credit and how they fit into the Nursing curriculum.

Will I need to have my RN license to apply? Ì You must have an active license to submit your SOAR application to the College of Nursing by the deadline. However, you can

apply to USF undergraduate admissions to start the process while your license is in process.

Do I have to be working as an RN to be admitted to the program? Ì The program was designed for working professionals; however aside from an active RN license there is not a specific requirement

to be working as an RN during the program. Several classes in the program have a practicum component. RN’s actively working in the field can complete the requirements in their workplace. Those students not actively working as an RN will work with the faculty to find an alternative location to meet project requirements.

Can I apply before my pre-requisites or degree is posted? Ì If you are still completing your pre-requisite coursework (English Comp I & II), please wait to apply to our Nursing program. The

College of Nursing can only consider applicants who meet all the minimum criteria, which includes completion of pre-requisites, active RN license and posted ASN degree. All criteria must be complete by the College of Nursing application deadline.

What if I have an RN license, but some of my coursework is from out of the country, how do I apply? Ì You will follow the normal application process (detailed on the reverse of this handout) but students with any postsecondary work

(college or university) at an institution not in the U.S. are required to submit an evaluation of that academic work. The evaluation must include a course-by-course assessment. Be sure to work with Undergraduate Admissions to use one of the approved evaluation agencies (http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Admissions/credential-evaluation-requirements.html).
