Our FFA adopted two local families with
small children and bought them gifts for
Christmas. The students in the horticul-
ture class wrapped the gifts and then they
were anonymously delivered. This was
one of our FFA’s community service pro-
jects this year.
The white elephant gag gift exchange is becom-
ing a tradition with Riverside FFA students. Stu-
dents brought in some very interesting gifts,
ranging from. Sea Monkies to a big bag of
straw. This year’s exchange was a great suc-
cess and we can’t wait until next Christmas!

212/360 On January 19 & 20, 6 members of the Riverside FFA chapter attended the 212/360
Leadership Conference at the Embassy Suites in Dublin. The conference was divided
into two parts, 212 for freshmen and sophomore members and 360 for junior and sen-
ior members.
The 212 Conference it is the first component in the National FFA Leadership and Per-
sonal Growth Series. It is a two-day personal development conference designed pri-
marily for high school freshman and sophomores. Students complete a talent assess-
ment, identify the skills needed and desired for success and assess their personal in-
terests. FFA members are provided with tools of motivation that are relevant to their
everyday lives. Students discover the many careers available in agriculture and the
many growth opportunities available within FFA. At the close of the conference and
beyond, participants make purposeful, meaningful choices that will lead them to ex-
cellence.
The 360 Conferencis the second component in the National FFA Leadership and Per-
sonal Growth Series building upon the curriculum of 212. It offers an experience spe-
cifically for high school juniors and seniors. During the conference students will ex-
plore the wide variety of careers available in the field of agriculture. Students will learn
how best to prepare for their future careers whether through hands-on experience or
advanced education, while polishing their leadership and communications skills. Par-
ticipants will then generate ideas on how to utilize their leadership skills in community
service and volunteerism efforts.

Riverside Ag students have been very busy in the classroom. Students in the plant science class are fin-
ished engineering their nail boxes. The class is currently studying agronomy, grain storage and plant nu-
trients. Students are also conducting a scientific experiment using grass. Using the scientific process will
determine how scratching, cutting, and manipulating seed temperatures effect seed germination
In the Class Room
Animal Science class finished engineering horse projects. Student in this class engineered two sawhors-
es out of 2x4’s and 2x6’s. The animal science class is currently learning learning about livestock breeds
and genetics. Students worked in groups and presented their specific industry breeds. Students identi-
fied the top US 10 breeds and their characteristics to the class.

will be learning how to do landscape site anaylasis, plant selection, properly design and incorporate
modern landscape techniques using Pro Landscape computer software program.
Inside the Classroom
The Ag Engineering class finished their hydraulic project. Students studied and demonstrated their knowledge and
skills of fluid power (hydraulics & pneumatics). Students had to create a hydraulic robot using syringes wood and
other materials to pick up a block of wood and move it 90 degrees to and from the starting and finishing spots. The
Ag engineering class is currently tearing down small engines. Students learned key functions and operations along
with identifying parts and small engine tools.
Ag Business students completed persuasive speeches. Students chose a contravsial topic related to agri-
culture and had to persuade the audience for or against the issue. Students prepared a 6-8 minute
speech using only an outline to present their information. Next the business class identified different
leadership styles, ways to lead, and understand the differences in leadership vs. management. Students
