November is a month we tend to focus on gratitude, and we have so many things to be grateful for – the beautiful landscape in north Idaho, a vibrant and safe community, and committed and generous friends and neighbors.We were ecstatic to celebrate with this year’s Super Scholarship Raffle winner, Kayla Hart, who is a 2018 Lake City High School graduate and currently studying social work at Lewis

Clark State College. She was the lucky recipient of the $25,000 college scholarship. Our Premier Sponsor, Greene Idaho Foundation has generously supported this program over the past three years along with our other underwriting sponsors who make the scholarship program possible.Join us for our Connect 4 Lunch hosted by Kootenai Health on November 20th. Based on the success of UGM’s Women’s Recovery in Spokane, the Center provides a warm, home-like setting in which to explore and confront the issues surrounding abuse, addiction and homelessness. To end homelessness, we must go beyond free meals and safe beds to the underlying causes, and the Center offers a pathway to a different life for the women in this program.

The Post Falls Historical Museum has closed for the season and will re-open in May. The Historical Society, however, is still busy raising funds to keep the museum maintained and ready for next season.

We are inviting you to join us for a Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, November 10th, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Kootenai County Fire & Rescue Joe Doellefeld Training Center, which is located at 5271 E Seltice Way, in Post Falls. This is on the north side of Seltice just west of the fire fighter’s training tower.

The price is just $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Workers’ Compensation Rates to Decrease in Idaho for 2019

A proposal for a minus (-) 4.2 percent overall rate change to Idaho workers’ compensation insurance, effective January 1, 2019, has been approved by the Idaho Department of Insurance. The proposed rate change comes from the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCIC).“We are pleased to announce this reduction, a move which will benefit Idaho businesses, their employees and the economy in general,” said Director Dean Cameron. “The change in the 2019 workers’ compensation rates reflects an improvement in our state rating factors, including a slight decline in both the frequency of claims for lost work time, and the average cost of those claims.”

The state’s workers’ compensation benefit system is designed to cover medical costs associated with workplace injuries. It also provides wage replacement benefits to injured workers for lost work time. NCCI annually collects information about Idaho’s workers’ compensation system and submits proposed rates to the Department of Insurance for review and approval.

Dr. Jeremy Kokkonen, D.O., has been named the new medical director for Rehabilitation Hospital of the Northwest.

An osteopathic physician, Kokkonen has extensive training in osteopathic medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and interventional and medical pain management. He holds a special interest in strokes and spinal cord injuries. Prior to joining the hospital, he served as an interventional medicine and pain management physician in Ogden, Utah.

A Brigham Young University graduate, Kokkonen attended medical school at A.T. Still University/Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Mo. He then continued with residencies at Valley Hospital Medical Center in Las Vegas, and served as chief resident in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He completed a fellowship in interventional and pain management at Nexus Pain Care in Provo, Utah.

He is involved in numerous professional, educational, and community volunteer activities, including the American Osteopathic Association, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He currently resides in Post Falls with his family.

10 Etiquette Tips for Business Meetings 1. Be on time. Even better, be five minutes early so you can find your seat and get situated. Being ready on time shows

respect for others’ time and avoids having to start out with an apology for being late.2. Bring your business cards. Offer your business card as you introduce yourself or are introduced to other participants.

Treat cards that are given to you with respect—read the card when it is given to you and then put it away carefully in a card holder (never slip it into your back pocket where you will then sit on it). Tip: Place cards from others on the table in front of you so you can easily be reminded of peoples’ names.

3. Be prepared. The organizer of the meeting should have a set agenda that is shared well in advance. Participants should come prepared by familiarizing themselves with the objectives of the meeting and by having all assignments complete.

4. Silence your smartphone. This includes tucking it away out of sight. Lights and vibrations can be distracting to everyone around you.

5. Have a positive attitude. Don’t kick off your shoes and slouch back—meetings are not recess. Show respect by being professional, attentive, and engaged. A positive attitude starts with positive body language—sit up, look others in the eye, and smile.

6. Be a good listener and active participant. Be courteous and listen when others are speaking, but also be sure to be an active participant so you can have a productive meeting.

7. Don’t eat during meetings. Be sure to eat your meal or snack prior to entering a meeting unless the entire group is eating.

8. Avoid nervous habits. Don’t distract others by mindlessly tapping a pen or drumming your fingers on the table, rustling papers, or tapping your feet on the floor. These actions make you appear nervous or bored, neither of which are good for your image.

9. Follow through on your assigned action items. Just as it is important to arrive prepared, be sure to complete any assignments going forward.

10. The all-important thank you: Meeting with co-workers: Thank the organizer…even something as brief as “Great meeting. Thank you for getting us together” will be appreciated. Meeting with a client or prospect: Here’s an opportunity to build the relationship that shouldn’t be missed. Write a note to thank them for their time and, if applicable, the opportunity to meet.
