INTRODUCTION

Risk assessments are where an activity is measured in the possible likelihood of an accident that may happen.

This task is undertaken by experienced people who are able to identify risks in each task.

There is a procedure which to reduce any possible accidents happening.

Identifying tasks

EG. Crossing the road.

Step 1. Identify the hazards, are the vehicles travelling too fast.

Step 2. Who will be at risk – the pedestrians crossing the road and the drivers travelling.

Page 5: Risk assessment

Step 3.Calculate the risk from hazards in the likelihood of an accident happening, causing injury.

Step 4.Introduce measures to reduce the risks. Eg. Implementing traffic lights, or pedestrian crossings.

Step 5. Monitor the risk. Amendments may need to be made to the risk assessment, eg. Traffic lights maybe faulty, or there maybe increase in speed.
