THE PROJECTThe West Angelas and Brookman Fuel Hubs are located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia and are two important nodes in Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s fuel storage and distribution infrastructure.

With a strong background in Hydrocarbon facilities and Safety in Design, Primero Group was engaged to undertake the process and detailed design of the fuel infrastructure for both sites.

The solution consisted of rail tank car unloading, three 25m diameter fuel storage tanks, road tanker loading and all associatedpipework, structures and amenities.

Primero Group delivered the detailed design of civil, structural, mechanical and piping elements to meet the process design criteria and exceed Client and Statutory compliance requirements.

SOLUTIONWe used the Autodesk Plant Design Suite to develop the Process Schematics, model the vessels, model the Structure, model the Mechanical Equipment and model the Piping.

P&ID’s were used for the HAZOP Analysis, Plant models were feed directly into our FEA and Pipe Stress tools, Procurement data was extracted from the project database and the required Fabrication Documentation was produced directly within Plant Design Suite.

After reviewing several packages

Primero Group chose Plant 3D as our design

package. Not only was it quick, easy to learn and implement, it also allowed us to

customise the package to suit ours,

and our client’s needs.

The support and training provided by

Cadgroup also allowed us to address quickly and efficiently

any issues arising during the

implementation and life of the project.
