Formed in 1905 when records show that the first secretary of the

club was Mr A.E. Cosham of High St, Ringmer and the club colours

were black and amber. Prior to WW1, the club joined the Lewes &

District League and after reforming following the conflict RFC

secured its first ever trophy – the Sussex Junior Cup of 1926 – the

colours had now changed to Dark & Light Blue.

At the conclusion of WW2, the clubs home ground was Anchor

Field – Sth East of the Anchor Inn which served as the clubs

headquarters. The pitch was still a working field which meant the

goalposts had to be dismantled after each game. More problematic,

though, was the fact that cows owned by Mr Craig left their mark

and had to be cleared before every Match.

In 1951 Ringmer joined the Brighton League and began to climb the

divisions, in 1963 Ringmer was accepted into the Sussex County

League. Within three seasons the Blues had sealed third spot in Div

2 and in 1967 they also lifted the Div 2 Invitation Cup.

Improved facilities thanks to land provided by the Pitts family,

Building started on new changing rooms, a pre-fabricated building

was purchased from the old Croydon Airfield and The Caburn as we

know it today took shape.

A BRIEF HISTORY RINGMER FOOTBALL CLUB

GAFFA’S CHAT

So Pre-Season started off well with a win against a new side in the East Sussex

League Bexhill Town, they provided a tough opposition fielding a few county first

team players as well but goals from Ollie Winter and an own goal secured a 2-0

win, the following week saw us slump back into old habits sleeping at set pieces

and not defending correctly put us at the wrong end of a 5-0 defeat.

The next game we played was Hailsham Under 21’s in last seasons Eastbourne

Challenge Cup Semi Final that saw the Ringers come out 4-0 winners and into

the Final goals from Tom Cyprien x2, Kieran Manning & an O.G.

The last competitive friendly was against Bexhill Broncos and it became a tougher

than expected game and hard to break down with 11 men behind the ball and the

amount of shots we had blocked or deflected was unbelievable but the deadlock

was broken 10 minutes from time by Miles Clarke and running out 2-0 winners.

The last game was a Friendly between both my clubs with Stone Cross AFC

fielding Ringmer players Steve Jackson, Conor Middleton, Ade Fermin and

Langney Wanderers Forward Paul Rogers. This game was to raise money for

Pancreatic Cancer a night that raised £350. The Windmills come out Winners with

a 3-1 win with myself netting a late penalty for Ringmer.

The start of the league season didn’t go to plan with a poor performance against

Broadbridge Heath saw us get demolished 7-0 and straight to the bottom of the

league, after Abbott gave away the penalty after 10 minutes and it was a downhill

struggle from their from a decent Bears side.

The second game was looking better and when Miles Clarke netted our first

league goal lifting the ball over the on rushing keeper I thought we could push on

but a poor back pass to equalise and a cheap goal conceded just before half time

was a bitter blow, we still thought we was still in this but more lack of

concentration saw us concede another four sloppy goals keeping us rock bottom

of the league with a poor goal difference.

This weekend we welcome Lancing to The Caburn for the 3rd game of the season

and hopefully after a good weeks training ironing out the little kinks we can get a

positive result and the first three points of the season.

SATURDAY 20TH AUGUST 2016 @ THE CABURN, RINGMER

Ringers Mauled by the Bears.

Ringmers Reserves were disappointing and embarrassed to be

well beaten by Broadbridge Heath.

The Ringers went into the first game of the season in high spirits after a good pre-season programme and making it into last season’s Eastbourne Challenge Cup Final but a display from the Ringers that was short of Embarrassing saw the Home side start the season rock bottom of the league losing to the Bears 7-0

The Ringers did make a few chances during the game but unable to work the Bears keeper, The next game is home Friday night to Reserve East Champions Haywards Heath.

FRIDAY 26TH AUGUST 2016 @ THE CABURN, RINGMER

Ringers defeated again after taking the lead.

Ressies conceded six sloppy goals again in a game we

definitely could of won. AddThis Sharing Button

The Ressies were going into the first Friday night game of the season at the Caburn in good spirits considering the defeat last weekend. We had a good training session Tuesday night a training match against the first team with manager Danny Wood trying out a new formation and tactics with options to play with wing backs an option for the gaffa.

Luca Forte came back into the side after missing last week to partner Adam Sparks with Ade Fermin dropping to left back, Todd Cotterill replaced Ben Abbott in goal to make his debut for the reserves and Miles Clarke started up top. Both Sam Funnell and Under 18 forward Ben Milburn started on the bench also waiting to make their debut.

the game started off in a positive way for the Ringers with good possession with Chan and Fly hitting early balls for Clarke, Manning & Booker to get onto, a cracking diagonal ball to John Brazil saw the Forward side foot volley the ball to Ryan Booker who took a good touch and passed it into the top left corner only to be called offside, Heath then shortly after suffered the same fate. It was the Ringers that took the lead with a through ball to Miles Clarke the striker lifted the ball over the on rushing keeper to go 1-0 up after 20 mins. the league only lasted 5 minutes as Forte's back pass didn't have enough on it and the away forward rounded the keeper and slotted it home and when they doubled the lead 3 minutes before the half again due to sloppy defending the home side felt a little hard done by.

still in the game and after encouraging words at half time we started bright again winning the ball and starting to attack but the quality started to diminish and possession was given away cheaply putting pressure on our defence, when a free kick was given away Cotterill not in the correct position saw the ball sail over his head into the top far corner. three more poor goals were scored including a deflection and a back heel that should have been prevented. a disappointing result on reflection conceding six goals all of them could have been prevented one way or another, we move on to next week as we play our third home game in a row against Lancing FC.
