RICHMOND AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB NEWS

RICHMOND Swimmers have been busy attending carnivals at Charters Towers, Townsville, Richmond and Normanton and swimming at the weekly club nights.

There has been a lot of success to celebrate. Some of our junior swimmers who started the season swimming a small distance can now swim 25m independently. Many of our new members competed at the Richmond Swim Carnival for their first ever swim meet. This was a wonderful experience and many have kept up their training regime which has resulted in improved times and skills at club nights.

Last weekend six team members travelled to Normanton. The swimmers did very well with almost all achieving personal bests (this means times faster than their last swim). Special mention to Devon, Alyssa, Jack and Mac who achieved personal best times in nearly every event. Team Richmond also dominated the sprints event. In the under nine boys section their were 25 competitors. Devon placed second and Mitchell placed fifth, in the under 9 girls section, Alyssa placed third and lastly in the 10-12 boys section Jack came third and Mac took out the event. It was a great afternoon of swimming.

The club congratulates Connor Smith who has qualified for three events at the Queensland Swimming State Championships to be held at Brisbane next month. Connor has qualified in the 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle. Good luck and it will be nice to see your name representing Richmond Swim Club amongst some of the fastest swimmers in Queensland.

Lastly there will be one more club night before the term breaks up. Another on a night yet to be decided. For people still wanting to join the club please contact Connie Wharton or Bethea Pattel.

See you all on pool deck.

SCHOOL SPORTS REVIEW

The Swimming Carnival was the first carnival for the calendar year. Flinders started off the day slow, however, as the day progressed they proved to be more dominant in the pool. In Term 2, the Athletics Carnival took place. Both houses competed in a variety of track and field events. Students from all age groups gave it everything they had. After losing to Flinders in the pool, Mitchell were determined to beat Flinders. They gave it everything they had and their hard work paid off as they were crowned the Athletics champions for 2019. At the start of Term 3, the Cross-Country Carnival took place and again we played games beside the Lake after our run. We all had a blast and it was great to see the day care join us. The highlight of the day had to be watching the teachers fall over during the three legged race relays. Well done to Flinders who took out the title of 2019 Cross Country house champions.

INTER SCHOOL SPORT / DISTRICT SPORT

We had another busy year with interschool school sport. We hosted the Mid-West Swimming Carnival, and this year we travelled to Cloncurry for the annual Cluster Day, where students tried out for Netball, Rugby League, Soccer and Touch Footy. It was great to catch up with our friends from nearby schools and compete in a range of sports. We also travelled to Hughenden for Athletics and Julia Creek for cricket. It was great to see students putting in their best effort with some of them selected in the Mid-West and North West teams. We were also lucky to have a number of visitors come to Richmond to work with us throughout the year.

Queensland Cricket, who must love coming to Richmond also retuned again later in the year! We also had a visit

from NRL and the Blackhawks. Students got the chance to participate in small sessions to help improve and develop

our football skills. 2019 has been a busy year in sport, although it has been hard work, it has been great to have fun

and learn many new skills along the way.
