description

"Hello Friends, 19th March. Our very own Niruma's 'nirvaan diwas'. It has been 9 years since she left her mortal body but as Pujyashri very rightly stated that, 'Gnanis' never die. When they feel that they are unable to fulfill their mission through this body, they leave behind one mortal body and continue their mission of 'jagat kalyan' through another body as if they are fulfilling the task left incomplete the previous day. They continue this mission till their final ‘nirvana’ (ultimate salvation). To commemorate this auspicious occasion, every year on this day a fresh batch of young 'brahmachris' (celibates) join 'aaptsinchan' and surrender themselves to fulfill Dadashri and Niruma’s only dream that the world should not remain in this miserable state. The significance, motive and the purpose of 'sinchan' is highlighted in the article 'Gnani with Youth'. We hope it shall provide a new perspective to all our readers."

Dada’s Book Excerpt Do not drink alcohol even in a dream

Dadashri: Do you drink alcohol? Do you contaminate your body in this way? Questioner: Yes, sometimes I do, when there is stress at home. I am being honest with you. Dadashri: Stop your drinking. You have become a slave to it.It is not right for you. This is Dada's agna, so you must not touch alcohol at all. Only then will your life run smoothly and you will no longer need to drink. If you read 'CharanVidhi' (booklet given after the GnanVidhi), you will not need to drink at all. The CharanVidhi will fill you with bliss. Questioner: Of course Dada. But cocktail parties have become the norm of the day and one has to attend those parties if one has to make progress and maintain contacts in business circle. But otherwise I avoid having it. What you state is very much true; one has to keep away from such vices. Dadashri: I am trying to convey this message especially to the youth. Nowadays even these youngsters get these thoughts of having alcohol.

this veil over the awareness, how can it be removed? Dadashri: There is no solution for that. Time is the only remedy. The longer a person abstains from drinking alcohol, the clearer his thinking will be as the veils of ignorance disperse. He will begin to notice the difference as time goes by, but not immediately. Understand that pleasure derived from eating meat and consuming alcohol will have to be repaid. The repayment for this will be that in his next life, he will have to take birth in a lower life form, in the plant and animal kingdom. Every form of external happiness one enjoys will have to be repaid, so one must understand the gravity of this obligation. The world is not haphazard; it will demand a repayment. Only the experience of one's inner bliss does not need to be repaid. So remember you will have to pay back whatever you borrow. Questioner: A person will have to repay by being born in lower life form in his next life, but what are the consequences of eating meat and drinking alcohol in this life? Dadashri: In this life his ignorance will increase. As a result he will become callous and beastly. People around him will not give him any respect.

habit, then you will remain addicted and bound by it.

Consuming Alcohol and Non Vegetarian diet will take one to animal life form. Questioner: They say that if a person has been drinking and using drugs for a long time, it will affect his mind and the effects will last for a long time afterwards. How can one become free from such chronic effects? Dadashri: These remaining effects are the reactions from the addiction. All the sub-atomic particles (parmanoos) within the body need to be cleansed. Once the drinking stops, what should he do then? He needs to keep repeating to himself that it is wrong to drink. He should never say that drinking alcohol is good. He must be absolutely convinced that drinking alcohol is wrong and that it is harmful. In this way he will be free from his addiction. If he ever supports drinking, then by thinking or saying that there is no harm in it he will suffer a relapse. Questioner: What damage does alcohol cause to the brain? Dadashri : A lcohol makes you lose awareness. When you drink alcohol your awareness is shrouded by the veils of ignorance. These veils of ignorance will accumulate and never leave. You may believe that they have dispersed, but they instead become denser and will turn you into a dull and ineffective individual. You will not be able to think positively or clearly. Those who have managed to overcome their addiction to alcohol have developed a positive attitude and thinking. Questioner: Once the alcohol has created

Questioner: Absolutely true. This kind of thinking needs to be ingrained since childhood. What I want to understand now is, what needs to be done if a childhood friend coming from a very good social background happens to fall a prey to this addiction of smoking. Except for this one vice, he is a very good person. In that case what should be done? Should one break the friendship? Dadashri: To be sincere in our 'gnan' and to maintain relations with such addicts, both won't be possible together. Questioner: But what needs to be done if one is compelled to stay in such company? Then how should one avoid such vices? Dadashri: One should avoid staying with such addicts. Questioner: How can I be free from addiction? Dadashri: You must be convinced that the addiction is wrong and this belief will free you from it. Your conviction should not falter at all and your resolve to be free of the addiction should never change. Only then will you overcome it. But if you say that there is nothing wrong with your

Mr. Sharad a senior executive at a national bank was used to shifting at short notice. His wife along with their two sons Akash and Nikhil too had gradually adapted to this nomadic lifestyle. Having been promoted to the regional headquarters of the bank located in Baroda, he was fortunate enough to find a fully furnished bungalow in the same society where his classmate, a very dear friend resided. Both his sons too were enrolled in the same school where Suruchi, his friend's daughter was studying. He felt relieved that his family had settled down prior to his taking charge at the bank.

They had just settled down in the new surroundings when it was already their first day at school. Both Akash and Nikhil were excited as they had eagerly awaited this day in anticipation of making new friends. Dressed in their crisp new uniform, they waited impatiently for Suruchi who was to meet them at the main gate of their society. On seeing Suruchi coming, both the brothers called out in unison, “Hey, come on. Let's get going.” Suruchi, a cheerful young girl studying in Class X, soon joined them. All three exchanged pleasantries and began walking towards school which was just a few

Trying to pacify Akash she asked him, “But how did you fall down?” Amidst sobs Akash replied, “I was trying to catch a butterfly. But before I could lay my hands on it, it flew away and as I tried to lunge forward I slipped.” “Oh, so you too like butterflies?” Suruchi continued trying to draw his attention away from the pain. Akash simply nodded. Suruchi took out a candy from her pocket and after removing the colourful wrapper, handed it to Akash. This worked, as by now he had completely forgotten the pain. Suruchi then folded the wrapper to give it the look of a butterfly. Handing it to Akash she said, “Well, now you have your own butterfly and it won't even fly away. Do you like it?”

Feeling extremely pleased with the

care and concern shown by Suruchi, he

embraced her saying, “Thank you didi.”

Nikhil was feeling totally out of

Although he was following them he was

Akash the youngest of the three followed them, enjoying the pleasant morning as he jumped across the puddles formed due to early morning showers. They had hardly walked a few steps when Akash saw a beautiful butterfly sucking nectar from flowers across the compound wall. Tempted to catch the butterfly, he stretched himself over the wall but before he could grab it in his outstretched hands, the butterfly flew away. Trying his best to catch it, he lunged forward but slipped on to the wet pavement, getting injured and dirtying his fresh new uniform. Feeling pain and shock, he immediately began crying at the top of his voice. Nikhil and Suruchi immediately turned around and ran towards him. Seeing his little bro in such a messy state Nikhil began

scolding him, “You fool, can't you even walk properly ?” Furiously brushing off the dirt from his brothers shirt he said, “Look what a mess you have made of your new uniform.” A bit upset with Nikhil's attitude, Suruchi barged in saying, “Nikhil, stop being a bully! Can't you see he has injured himself very badly?” But Nikhil did not even bother to look at her. Grabbing Akash's hands Nikhil jerked him up on to his feet as he hollered, “How irresponsible of you. We shall be late on the first day itself. Now let's get moving. We shall arrange for first aid in school.” Realizing that she had to take charge, Suruchi pushed Nikhil

Dadashri: There is no problem in guiding him. But you

Questioner: How should I guide him?

Dadashri: If you tell him, 'Stupid fellow, you are just like a

respect too? If your boss were to tell you the same words

at work, how would you feel? Therefore avoid using such

foul language. You only have to guide him.

Questioner: How should I do it?

Dadashri: Sit with him and tell him gently that civilized

and respectable people do not do such things. You

should talk to him gently and lovingly. Instead, what you

do is beat him and scold him. How can this be acceptable?

Without love there can be no solution. In fact, even when

you grow a plant, you have to nurture it with love. Merely

pouring water over it will not suffice.

Questioner: What should we do if he

does not understand even after we

have put in our best efforts?

Dadashri: Just shower your love on

him. At the same time you should

a l s o g e n t l y t r y t o m a k e h i m

understand

Questioner: What should be done if our suggestions to

help correct someone's mistake results in that person

feeling hurt? How should one resolve the issue?

Dadashri: There is no problem in guiding him. But you

should know how to do it.

Questioner: How should I guide him?

Dadashri: If you tell him, 'Stupid fellow, you are just like a

donkey' won't he feel offended? Doesn't he have self

respect too? If your boss were to tell you the same words

at work, how would you feel? Therefore avoid using such

foul language. You only have to guide him.

Questioner: How should I do it?

Dadashri: Sit with him and tell him gently that civilized

and respectable people do not do such things. You

should talk to him gently and lovingly. Instead, what you

do is beat him and scold him. How can this be acceptable?

Without love there can be no solution. In fact, even when

you grow a plant, you have to nurture it with love. Merely

pouring water over it will not suffice.

“Son, you must have observed how a photo can influence our choice of alphabets. It means that merely by viewing an image we associate a lot of things, views and thoughts with that image in our sub-conscious mind. You won't think of the term 'soup' when you see a washroom. And when you see a bowl of soup you will never use the alphabet 'a' to fill the blank. This is because the moment you see the image, a second detailed image is automatically 'primed' in your mind. Now if only 1 picture can have such an influence, can you imagine the kind of impact a video can have on you? It processes approximately 25 to 30 photos per second. Hence, it is said… 'A picture speaks a thousand words & a video speaks a thousand pictures.' T h e a b o v e a c t i v i t y i s a p a r t o f experiments conducted by Josephson in 1987. He studied the effect of priming based on violent media. He gathered young boys and divided them into two groups. One group saw a

violent movie clip for 30 seconds while the other group saw a non-violent clip for 30 seconds. After viewing this, the boys were interviewed and then sent to the playing field to play hockey. Josephson observed them both on and off ground for aggressive behaviour such as pushing other boys down and using abusive and foul language. He found that boys who had watched the violent clip acted more violently than those who had watched the non-violent clip. Hence we can clearly say that you should be very selective of what you choose to watch or play. If you watch videos which promote violence and bad deeds, your entire mind will be primed with such thoughts. Likewise, if you are surrounded by bad influence, then your mind will be primed accordingly. Ultimately it's your inner thoughts that can make you happy or unhappy. If you play a violent game, your mind will be primed for being violent and this in turn will make you aggressive. Thoughts of

aggression will ultimately make you unhappy. So it is up to you to choose either creative and constructive priming or destructive priming.” His uncle continued further, “Just as a watchman was needed to take care of the garden, we too need a watchman to take care of our mind and nourish it with good, creative and positive thoughts. Now the question is who do you think is the best watchman for your mind?” The boy thought aloud, “Who can be the best watchman? My parents? Teachers? Friends? ” To this his uncle replied, “Your parents, friends and teachers can only act as the fence around the garden and can tell you what is good or bad for you. But it is YOU who needs to act as a watchman. No other person can do that for you.” He then added, “Your mind is like a beautiful garden full of creation, igniting ideas and fruitful thoughts. As soon as you saw stray dogs in the garden, you immediately reacted and started thinking about it. This is priming. You felt irritated because of the filth you observed in the otherwise beautiful garden. This made you unhappy. This filth is also present within us in the form of 'kashaays' (Anger, pride, deceit, greed). These 'kashaays' can make your mind dirty and unhealthy. Like you suggested erecting a fence to protect the garden, similarly you should also protect your mind and ensure that none of the 'kashaays' enter it. For the safety of the beautiful garden you also suggested to appoint a watchman. Likewise, you are the watchman of your mind. It depends solely upon you whether you want to allow 'kashaays' to enter your mind or not. If 'kashaays' enter your mind they will definitely make you…” “UNHAPPY”, said the boy completing the unfinished sentence. He continued, “From now on I shall be aware of 'kashaays' and won't allow them to cross the fence. And of course if there is garbage in the garden, I will clean it rather than complain.”

Examples We can play games like SimCity (iOS), Sudoku, Candy Crush etc which are much more

We can also choose to read books on self development as well as spiritual books which will ultimately 'prim' the image for us and radiate both our inner and outer self.

WHY AAPTSINCHAN?

t is a natural phenomena that Ias one develops spiritually and becomes 'pure', by default he

tends to become helpful to others. This sets a cumulative effect in motion wherein one

naturally develops and subsequently ends up helping others and so on. In this manner, this 'science' in its exactness shall continue for generations to come in exactly the same way as Dadashri had experienced it. Unless it is in our hearts desire that it remain so in its exactness, it shall gradually start fading away and the precise meaning shall be lost. But till the 'experienced' one is present, the precise meaning won't be lost and the true essence shall remain just as it was in Dadashri's presence. (All will be safe under the subtle presence of Dadashri and Niruma).

THE MOTIVE BEHIND AAPSINCHAN dedicated effort for three years for one to progress in 'gnan' and overcome 'kashays' A(anger, pride, deceit, greed). This spiritual endeavour is otherwise impossible in the rigours of our daily routine.

PUJYASHRI'S INNER INTENT FOR AAPTSINCHANhe fundamental motive of 'sinchan' is that the lineage of 'Gnanis' may continue for Tgenerations. Deepakbhai succeeded Niruma and Dadashri and later these 'Aaptputras' and 'Aaptputris' shall continue this tradition for generations to come. 'Akram Vigyan' shall keep

on spreading across the globe and benefit those eligible for ultimate salvation. And it shall definitely be so! 'Satsang' along with right guidance shall act as a tool and help increase purity. Our profound intent is that this 'science' may continue for generations through the lineage of worthy successors. A new successor shall qualify in the presence of preceding one and so on. And thus this 'science' shall reach every nook and corner of the world for generations to come. Our sincere 'purusharth' and 'parakram bhav' (extraordinary spiritual endeavour) can be the only worthy tribute we can offer to Dadashri's 'gnan' which in turn shall enable us to spread the message of salvation amongst the masses. We should dedicate our complete being for this worthy cause.

Our sole desire is that all can accomplish this level and spread harmony and happiness in this world burning with agony.

A gentleman used to visit Dada regularly. He always used to crib about his miseries and misfortune. Once Dadashri asked him the reason for his grievances, to which he gave a detailed explanation about his feeling of being cheated by his in - laws. He felt he was cheated by his father- in - law because when it was arranged for him to see his prospective bride for the first time, she was seated. It was later while they were taking their solemn vows around the sacred fire that he found that she was handicapped. It had been almost a decade since they had been married and even had three children. Yet this man was not able to accept the fact that his wife was a handicap and thus felt cheated and as a result felt dejected all the time. To this Dadashri asked him, “While you have so many complaints against your wife, what does she have to say a b o u t y o u ? D o e s s h e h a v e a n y complaints?” The gent replied, “Dadaji, how can she have any complaints? I am good looking, smart, financially well off and above all without any physical defect.” Then Dadashri said in a very compassionate voice,

This one statement by Dadashri made him realize that he was reaping the fruits of sins previously committed by him. Therefore it did not make any sense complaining. Just this little change in his belief cleared his grievance of the past ten years and for the first time since the day he was married, he felt truly relaxed. HE CUT THROUGH THE MOUNTAIN WITH JUST A HAMMER, A CHISEL, AND CROWBARS. After 22 years, Dashrath Das Manjhi, the outcast landless labourer had conquered the mountain: he had carved out a road 360 feet long, 30feet wide. Wazirganj, with its doctors, jobs, and school, was now only 5 kilometers away. People from 60 villages in Atri could use his road. Children had to walk only 3 kilometers to reach school. Grateful they began to call him ‘Baba’, the revered man. But Dashrath did not stop there. He began knocking on doors, asking for the road to be tarred and to be connected to the main road. He walked along the railway line all the way to New Delhi, the capital. There he submitted a petition for his road, for a hospital for his people, a school and water. In July

Question: Many a times I am unable to do things that I like to do, out of fear of what people might say. What should I do to overcome the fear?

2006, ‘Baba’ went to the then Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Bhardwaj’s ‘janta darbar’. The minister feeling overwhelmed, got up and offered ‘Baba’ his chair, a rare honour for a man of Manjhi’s background. The government rewarded his efforts with a plot of land which Manjhi donated for a hospital. “I do not care for these awards, this fame and the money,” he said. “All I want is a road, a school, and a hospital for our people. They toil so hard. It will help their women and children.” It would take them 30 years to tar this road. On August 17, 2007, Dashrath Manjhi lost his battle with cancer. All that he had done was for no personal gain. “I started this work out of love for my wife but continued it for my people. If I did not, no one would.”

Answer: You should not have any such fear. Who should you be afraid of and why, when you don't want to hurt anybody? Besides, when you don't want to do anything neither wrong nor wish to steal, then why should you be afraid of people? Dada says, 'The only fear one should have, is the fear of doing wrong deeds or hurting others'. You should avoid doing that to others which you would not like to be done to you. For example, if you do not like getting scolded, then you too should not get angry with others. If you don't like anybody stealing your money, then you too should avoid stealing. Some people might approve of what you have to say or suggest, while others may not. If someone tells you 'you are incompetent' and you tend to withdraw from that activity, then when will you make progress? Instead you should listen to that person's view and put across your own view so as to convince that person of the righteousness of your activity and why you are doing it. Besides, has anyone ever become perfect? You can always progress if you know your own strengths and weaknesses and plan accordingly. But if you remain fearful, then you will simply falter. If you are unable to fulfill a task successfully, then too do not feel defeated. Giving up will not help you accomplish anything. You may face failure but you must not be afraid of it.

We all are well aware of the many accolades and achievements of this great sportsman. So let's have a look at the other facet of his persona.

is thoughts expressed in interview Hwith students,

You scored 175 on a day when your team was trailing at 17 for 5. What was the pressure on you? Kapil said: The pressure was the same like every other day I had to perform like any other day. The only difference was that it was my day. In life you will have your days; keep working towards that day every day. That day people will talk about you. So prepare yourself for that day. How should we handle negativity and criticism? Dev answered: In any situation, always take the positive aspect. If the criticism improves you, use it as a tool. If not, don't take it. 'Kisi ne aapko gaali di, aapne nahin li, kya farak pada, agar le li, to aap haar gaye'. (If someone abuses you and you don't let it affect you, it won't make any difference but if you let it affect you, then you have lost it) Work sincerely towards achievements. Be the one giving an autograph and not the one asking for it.

What qualities should a leader acquire? Kapil replied: A good leader knows his team well. As a leader one should respect the feeling of the team members. If a member of your team is unable to perform because his dad is unwell, then as a team leader, you should accommodate him and understand his crisis. If your team members have respect for you, then the team will always give their best in them. FITNESS: Nicknamed ‘The Haryana Hurricane,’ Kapil Dev never missed a Test Match due to fitness issues in a long career spanning almost 16 years. ETHICS: In the 1987 World Cup against Australia, Kapil Dev agreed with the umpires to increase Australia's total from 268 to 270 as one boundary had mistakenly been marked as 4 instead of 6. India went on to lose the game by 1 run. PHILOSOPHY: What is required is self-belief, most importantly. Secondly, you should be ready to listen, to be strong to acknowledge what your weakness is, and learn, improve... If you have that, then all this that you are talking about, fielding, running between wickets, they are all minor things... OUTLOOK: If you stand under a mountain and look up, you will get a bad pain in the neck. If you look at the ground and take one step, and then another step, then you come to a little bump. You think of how to climb over it; then you find a gap and you jump over it and you go on like that, one step at a time, and suddenly, you find yourself standing on top of the mountain. ATTITUDE: ...that if you want to do something, achieve something, you can't be thinking all the time of what you don't have...

I don't have an opening batsman, I don't have a fast bowler, I don't have an all-rounder... You think like this and you are telling yourself you can't win. You have to see what you have, and then plan how to use it the best way you can, that is the way to win games. Not this business of 'we don't have an all-rounder so we are not a balanced team! HUMANE GESTURE: He pledged his organs during an event organized by Delhi Urological Society on January 31, 2014. F r i e n d s , t h i s h u m b l e gentleman is the only player in the history of cricket to have taken more than 400 wickets (434 wickets) and scored more than 5,000 runs in Tests, making him one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game. On 8 March 2010, Kapil Dev was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.
