‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all throughthe oilfield; The bits they were turning; there wereholes being drilled.

While most enjoy family, church, Santa, and elves;A roughneck is working - Rigs don’t run themselves!

He’s dressed up for Christmas, but not like most are,No, his suit’s a hard hat, his boots, and FR.

But complain he does not - he takes pride in this life;He’s tougher than most - and so is his wife.

Whether he’s home this Christmas will just depend,On when his hitch started and when it will end.

Many times that are special, he does have to miss;But his family supports and respects him for this.

They adjust where they can so that he can be part,Of those things that matter the most in his heart.

They’re strong and they’re proud; they’ll play the dealt card,And they are the reason that he works so hard.

An oilfield Christmas is different, no doubt,They’re doing a service we can’t do without.

So, when you do nestle all snug in your home,Remember those roughnecks who are out there alone.

They’re working for their families, yes that is true,But they’re also out there working for me and for YOU.

So let’s bid them all Merry Christmas this night,As no matter what, they keep it turnin’ to the right!

Noel Holmes—AustraliaNoel was nominated for the One Savanna Award in Q3 because of his dedication, hard work, and commitment to safety. Noel works in the Maintenance Department at Savanna Australia’s Toowoomba office, and is known to be the first one to arrive in the morning, and the last to leave at night.

Moreover, as Savanna is continuously working toward a better HSE culture, Noel is recognized by his peers as one who takes both time and effort to not only help fellow employees learn how to operate equipment properly, but to also lead by example. Well done Noel!

Carl Wade—United StatesCarl is a Field Superintendent for Savanna Drilling, and works out of the Odessa, Texas office. Carl was nominated for the One Savanna Award for demonstrating respect and integrity, and through these values, building collaborative relationships. Carl is well respected by his peers for treating all those he encounters with respect and fairness, regardless of their position or level of experience. Carl also demonstrates Savanna’s values every day, and as such, leads all those he encounters by setting an example and personifying “The path for others to follow”. FLEET COMPOSITION – Drilling Heavier rigs are in high demand in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin. Close to half of the rigs in the registered fleet reach more than 3000 metres.

This is a significant shift from 10 years ago, when smaller equipment (rigs working between 950 metres and 2450 metres) was in favour.

RIG ACTIVITY: 2013 VERSUS 2012Rig activity for 2013 slowed slightly from 2012. These utilization rates and accumulated operating days still qualify as healthy activity levels for the sector.

Utilization for 2013 overall will average out to 41%, if the industry meets the expected activity levels for the fourth quarter. This is a softening of activity (2012 averaged out to 44%) but still well above 2009, a sub-economic period when utilization worked out to a dismal 26%.

What’s Happening?

Top: Savanna Well Servicing’s Billy Wilson presented the Carlyle & District Food Bank with $1520 that was raised at the SWS Carlyle Christmas Party.

Before they left, the SWS Carlyle team spoke to Gwen from the food bank and told her that Savanna is going to make it an annual tradition to help out, and would volunteer anytime of the year, for which she was very grateful.

Savanna Drilling Calgary participated in a toy drive for the Salvation Army. Each year the Salvation Army asks for volunteers to come help them sort through toys that have been donated. The families that qualify, pick up their pre-selected toys for their kids for Christmas.

‘Tis the Season for Giving Back to Our Communities.

On December 9, Cory Patience (Right, Field Supervisor), Harry Clarke (relief Field Supe/Rig Manager Rig 3), and Trudy Atwell (Crew Coordinator-not shown) from the SWS Brooks office volunteered to help put together Christmas Hampers. It was a great way Savanna could give back to the community during the holiday season and to help families in need at this time of the year. A total of 11 hampers were assembled to feed 11 families.

Christmas Cheer!

The 2013 Savanna Australia Christmas Charity Collection ended on Thursday 12th December when food, home wares and fuel vouchers to the value of $4,800 were delivered to Ozcare’s Bush Connections team in Toowoomba.

With the assistance of a team of dedicated volunteers, all goods donated to Ozcare were used to create hampers for farming families in need of a helping hand to make Christmas Day an enjoyable time for all.

On Wednesday 18th December our Logistics team collected two light vehicle loads of Christmas wrapped hampers from Ozcare’s office. The hampers were then transported by truck to Roma, a four hour drive west of our Operational base in Toowoomba, and distributed throughout the community by local non-for profit organisations in partnership with Ozcare.

Mike Bill, GM, Australia, kindly matched the initial donation of $2,400 - dollar for dollar - boosting the support for Ozcare to help meet demands from families involved in the Bush Connections program.

Ozcare Business Operations Manager Gay Skuse says the non-for-profit organisation was extremely grateful to Savanna Energy Services for the generous donation of Christmas hampers and fuel vouchers.

“The generosity of corporate supporters like Savanna Energy helps maintain our essential service and means that we can help make life a little easier for our rural families at Christmas time,” said Ms. Skuse.

Operations Manager Don Goldade expressed his gratitude with a very special thank you to everyone who generously supported this initiative, making it a happy Christmas for people less fortunate than us. Every little bit counts, when it comes to giving; one of our mechanics donated a week’s worth of lunch money so that our country cousins could benefit.

Bush Connection Coordinator Pam Bryce said that the support of Savanna Energy Services will go a long way towards helping Ozcare’s Bush Connection clients. “Savanna Energy’s kind support means that our families can relax and enjoy Christmas without worrying about having money for life’s basic necessities like food and petrol.”
