The Greystone Health Network
recognizes the value of recreation and we are
proud to have talented activities teams at each
of our locations. These teams are developing
exciting new programs designed to enhance our
resident’s health mentally and physically while
providing fun and creative outlets.
Recreation is proven to reduce stress,
improve our mood, control our pain and lower
our blood pressure. Studies show time and time
again that our bodies crave activity, and our
quality of life improves when we are active
participants in recreational programs.
Participating in recreational activities
allows you to improve mental and physical
conditions all at the same time, providing a
greater benefit to your health. While recreation
is certainly not a replacement for medical
treatments, it is a great way to positively
contribute to our overall well being.
We encourage our residents to
participate in our activity offerings, located on
your community calendars as well as inside this
newsletter. Family and friends are welcome to
participate with their loved ones in appropriate
programs.
As we continue to improve our programs
and provide activities that our residents find
entertaining and stimulating we welcome your
suggestions. If there is something that you
would like to see offered during your stay with
us, please let your activities department know.
The Importance of Recreation By Stefanie Resch
Activities, including board games, stimulate your brain while
engaging you in physical activities.

Ridgecrest Report October 2015
To our residents, friends and families, Our organization has seen tremendous growth in the last year, and our accomplishments highlight the passion, perseverance and dedication the entire Greystone Health Network exhibits. Everything we do is centered on an exceptional customer experience. I want to share with you all our network has achieved in the pursuit of excellent care. Our corporate office has earned the Top Workplaces in Tampa Bay award for the fifth year. More than seven of our centers have applied for or achieved Fit-Friendly worksite recognition by the American Heart Association. Seven of our communities achieved National Quality Award – Bronze by the American Health Care Association and one achieved the National Quality Award – Silver, both awarded to less than 10 percent of skilled nursing centers in Florida. We have expanded our services to provide a full continuum of care for our customers, including 11 skilled nursing communities in Ohio, a home health branch and hospice agency in the Greater Columbus area. In Florida, we have extended our home care services in the Greater Orlando and Tampa Bay areas and added Greystone Personal Care offering private duty services in The Villages, FL and Tampa, FL. As we continue to grow, achieve, and improve ourselves we look forward to serving you, our customers, with the highest quality clinical and customer service care.
With care and compassion,
Connie Bessler, CEO

Resident of the Quarter
Steven H.
Steven is no stranger to hard
work. He spend most of his adult
life as a construction worker. For
someone who has always been
active the inability to walk was a
huge challenge that Steven had
to overcome.
Steven considers learning to
walk again his greatest personal
accomplishment. Thanks to
Ridgecrest Health and
Rehabilitation Center he was
able to accomplish that goal.
He enjoys living here because it
is very comfortable. Steven also
praises the excellent food. A
Miami native, it also gives
comfort to know that his sister
and brother-in-law are there
when he needs them. For fun, he
enjoys riding his scooter.
Thank you, Steven for being part
of the Ridgecrest Health and
Rehabilitation Center family.
Associate of the Month
Brenton H.
Brenton chose to work as a
certified nursing assistant
because he has a genuine
passion to help motivate and
care for people. He has worked
at Ridgecrest Health and
Rehabilitation Center since April.
Working with different
personalities and interacting
with residents and clients are
what he likes most about
working here. His greatest
accomplishment was finishing
college with his associates
degree in applied recreational
leadership and sports
management. He was born on
the gorgeous island of Jamaica
on Aug. 17, 1985.

With a typewriter, 6 pencils, 3 erasers, 2 bottles of Wite-Out, and a photo of Edgar Allan Poe,
A young poet propped a skull, hand of bones, 2 roses, and eerie sheet music to help visions flow.
Aiding the creative process, a fictitious murder weapon and broken watch were added to the scene,
Plus 6 candlesticks, 2 garlic bulbs, and a cross were placed by the old writing machine. Just as the young Poe wannabe sat down to write a chilling story of dreadfulness,
Lightning struck, the electric went out, and heat stopped blowing from the furnace. Wrapped in a shawl, the poet repeatedly lit the candles as their flames repeatedly died,
Striking countless sticks of fire from 3 boxes of matches and draining 2 lighters bone dry. 4 spiders dropped from the ceiling, gusty winds swept a black feather beneath
the chamber door. Rattled by a clap of thunder, a cup and saucer, 4 teabags, honey, and a lemon fell to the floor.
The doorknob mysteriously turned with a screech, the key turned in the lock as well, And the young poet decided right then it was time to switch genres, pack up, and bail!

Alaska Cruise August 2015
Michelle, Activity Director, enjoyed touring Alaska with her family and seeing all the beautiful sights & animals. In Ketchikan, we saw bald eagles (left), black bears (right) and shopped on Creek Street (middle).
5
We travelled on the White Pass Scenic Railway (left) from Skagway into British Columbia. On the way back via the Klondike Highway, we stopped at Liarsville (middle) and panned for gold. At Glacier Bay, Lampluhg Glacier was one of many glaciers we saw. (right).
Hello Ridgecrest Family and Friends,
It has come to my attention that I have not formally introduced myself to you. My name is Joshua Wagoner and I am the new Executive Director here at Ridgecrest. Though I am new to this community, I transferred from our sister community, Carlton Shores, within the Greystone Health Network. I have been with Greystone for three years and I am extremely honored to be the Executive Director here at Ridgecrest.
I started my career in healthcare over 13 years ago as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and have worked my way up through the ranks. I have worked in all aspects of healthcare, including the hospital, rehabilitation hospital, assisted living, nursing homes, and hospice.
I look forward to working with all the associates, families, and guests of Ridgecrest as we begin this new journey together. My door is always open to all. I look forward to helping make Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center the best community in DeLand and all of Florida!
