Ricoh India chosen to supply Rural ICT solution for Department of PostsFor more than 150 years, the Department of Posts (DoP) has been the backbone of the country’s communication and has played a crucial role in the country’s socio-economic development. It has and continues to touch the lives of Indian citizens in more than one ways: delivering mails, accepting deposits under Small Savings Schemes, providing life insurance cover under Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) and providing retail services like bill collection, sale of forms, etc. With 1,55,015 Post OWith 1,55,015 Post Offices, the Department of Posts has the most widely distributed postal network in the world. Over 1,29,000 of these post offices are in rural areas.

In 2014, the Department of Posts chose Ricoh as the System Integrator for Rural ICT (Information & Communication Technology), along with Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) to revolutionise the process that has been in practice at the department. In its present scope, Ricoh is to ensure the supply of mobile computing devices and peripherals, installation of solar UPS, connectivity to access the application by service providers along with maintenance for five years catering to over 1,29,000 postal offices in India.

As a part of this IT modernization project, the Department of Posts has carried out business process reengineering across various functional areas and has created To-Be processes that will enable it to achieve these objectives. In order to implement these processes in a sustainable manner, they need to be IT enabled in an integrated manner that improves operational efficiencies.

Part of this larger initiative (IT modernization project) is the Rural Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Solution which shall also enable the Department of Posts to connect various Extra Departmental Post Offices (EDOs).The goal of the Rural ICT Project is to provide a low power technology solution (ICT Device) to each Branch Postmaster (BPM) which will enable each of the over 1,29,000 Extra Departmental Post Offices (EDOs) to improve the level of services being offered to rural customers.

This coveted project for the Department of Posts is the largest single order in the history of Ricoh Worldwide and is a milestone for us as it would enable Ricoh India to strengthen its position in the Indian IT Industry as a top System Integrator
