Math Buzz Intermediate students have learned and demonstrated many advanced and effective skills in mathematics. What we are learning right now, factors and multiples, for example, have been helping our students to practice their math manipulation skills. When doing additional challenges, it allows us to think outside the box and come up with interesting answers. We've done a challenge that looked like this: When Tina chose a number "N" and wrote down all of its factors, apart from 1 and N, she noticed that the largest of the factors on the list was 45 times the smallest factor in the list. How many numbers N could Tina have chosen for which this is the case? There were many interesting strategies that we used to solve this problem, which came from the daily practices we've been doing.

DID YOU KNOW…

Kindergarten Inquiry - Making Patterns with Nature

The students in Kindergarten are learning to make patterns, working outside and inside, in our new Math Studio. They have used material from nature (sticks, leaves and rocks) to build their patterns. They have been extending their learning, by connecting their thinking with their daily

life.

Did you know that last spring we

purchased 5 new SMART Board for primary classes?

These are great tools to support

some of the components of

modern learning, especially around

student engagement.

2016-2017 House Leaders

School isn’t just a place to learn academics, it’s a place to try new things, make a

difference, and celebrate what we each have to offer. Houses strengthen our sense of

community and belonging. As part of our Character Education and our commitment to

mental well-being at Richmond Rose, we have 10 colour Houses that are connected with a

character trait and a famous Canadian who exemplifies that trait. Each House is made up

of approximately 50 members from Jk-8 as well as staff. With the help of 2 Teacher

Supervisors, our student House Leaders will help collect and represent the voices of their

members. A House Leader not only embodies the Richmond Rose Touchstone, but they

inspire others to get involved and be proud members of the Richmond Rose community.

We would like to thank all those Intermediate students who applied and to applaud their

effort and initiative. Choosing only 20, from all the exceptional applications, was

challenging. Congratulations to 2016-2017 House Leaders!

Keeping Our Students Safe!

Threat Assessment and InterventionThe well-being and safety of membersof the school community are a sharedresponsibility. Attention to maintainingsecure environments, hazardawareness, and practical planning foremergencies is important for all of us.This includes preventing andresponding to the risk of violence.

Schools continue to be among thesafest places in our community. To continue to promote the safetyand well–being of students, we havedeveloped, with our communitypartners, Student Threat Assessmentand Intervention procedures torespond to threats of violence.

Our Student Threat Assessmentand Intervention Protocol has beendeveloped to respond to behaviours, including actions, statements and otherindicators that suggest that a studentmay be “at risk” of harming others. To keep school communities safe andprovide support to everyone, staff, parents, students, and communitymembers must report all threat-relatedbehaviours to the school administratoror police as soon as possible.

Note - other procedures and protocolsare in place to deal with threatsfrom adults in the school community.
