Richik Vivek Sen of DPS Vasant Kunj, New Delhi tops Northern India Science Fair (NISF) – 2016-17

The National Science Centre, Delhi, a unit of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under the Ministry of Culture of the Government of India, is a pioneering institute engaged in popularising science among the people and students of the northern India. Like every year, National Science Centre organized science exhibition - “Northern India Science Fair (NISF) – 2016-17” on 18th and 19th January, 2017. The main objective of the NISF is to infuse spirit of invention and innovation among students by stimulating and inspiring young minds.

Selected 70 winning projects from individual and team category from State SCERTs, CBSE, UP Board and KVs participated in the above NISF event. The ceremony was inaugurated by Director of Directorate of Education, Government of NCT of Delhi and Director of National Science Centre, Delhi.

All participants and their projects were judged by a jury of judges constituting two teams. They evaluated all projects threadbare on 18th January, 2017. The exhibition was open on 19th January, 2017 to general public and students. Richik Vivek Sen of Class XI-C of DPS Vasant Kunj, New Delhi bagged the first position among the 70 participants. His project titled “Biomechanical Energy Based Lamp Cum Charger” is a unique innovation in the field of non-conventional and sustainable sources of energy. The objective of the project is to harvest biomechanical energy from elbow motion in order to offer a promising and clean alternative to electrical power supplied by batteries for miners’helmet lamps. Richik’s idea is expected to help millions of unorganised miners working across the world. The same device, without any modification, can be used to harvest energy from the knee during walking and jogging to charge mobile phones.

Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao , Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi announced the names of the winners and distributed the prizes. Richik received a shield, cash prize, a certificate of merit and other prizes in the event. He also got direct entry in IRIS National Fair.

Result of International French Olympiad organised by Silver Zone Foundation

Ananya Aggarwal of Class 7D and Ananya of Class 8 1st position in the Olympiad internationally. They will be awarded a winners’ trophy along with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000

NSEJS TOPPER 2016-17 The NSEJS Exam, that is, the National Standard Examination in Junior Science is organized by The Indian Association of Physics Teachers [IAPT] every year. The exam tests the knowledge of Science [Physics, Chemistry, Biology] and Mathematics.

This year the NSEJS-2016-17 exam was held on 20th November, 2016.

Neelabh Kashyap of class IX-B was awarded ‘The Certificate of Merit for being placed in Statewise top 1%’. He scored 121 marks out of a total of 240 marks and came 7th in Delhi.

Achievement in the field of Painting

Shrabya Mishra, student of DPS Vasant Kunj(VII-D) has been selected for Cultural Talent Research Scholarship Scheme 2016 in the field of Fine Arts by Centre for Cultural Resources and Training(CCRT) under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. She is undergoing training in Fine Arts for the past few years and is currently a student of 4th year in SPFA(School of Performing & Fine Arts). Recently she has won the 2nd prize in the Face Painting event in the Tiger Fest 2017-18 organised by Salwan Public School. Congratulations and best wishes for your future assignments.

Android App developed by Head Girl

Adding another feather in the cap to our achievements, class 12th student and Head Girl Bhargavi Goel has yet again lived up to her reputation of being one of the most innovative students of the school.

Being the founder of the Entrepreneurship Promotion and Innovation Council in the school, she and her peers constantly faced the dilemma of not getting a forum to share ideas, get mentoring and recognition. However, she chose to transform the obstacle into an opportunity to help the student fraternity.

She has demonstrated brilliant entrepreneurial acumen by developing an app Glorifire. The app is built with the unique disruptive concept of providing school students a platform for exchanging ideas and feedback on their academic or non-academic projects, skills, and activities.

The app has highly innovative features of sharing one’s project or blueprints of ideas and reaching out to the masses. Students can use it to innovate and collaborate in their extracurricular pursuits.

STANFORD UNIVERSITY MATHEMATICS CAMP 2016 (SUMaC) ACHIEVERS

SUMaC is one of the most competitive Maths camps where only 40 students from across the globe are selected. Professors of Stanford University mentor these students for Advanced Mathematics topics.

Bhargavi Goel, Class XII A, was selected for this prestigious Summer Training Camp, from July 10 to August 6, 2016. She undertook Program -1 in Number Theory, successfully.

An array of victories trailed the portals of Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj as its talented students played some masterstrokes:

• The Boys Football team of DPS Vasant Kunj outshone at the National Inter-DPS Football Tournament (Boys Open) 2016 held at DPS Noida from 16th to 19th of December 2016. The team showcased exemplary skills in the penalty shoot out to bag the Overall Trophy.

• DPS Vasant Kunj’s Orchestra Team ‘NAAD’ won the Second Position in the prestigious Inter-DPS National Orchestra Competition organized by the Delhi Public School Society at DPS Greater Noida on the 10th of December 2016.

• The National level Inter – DPS Basketball Tournament (Girls Open) – 2016 was held from 2nd to 4th December 2016 at DPS Vasant Kunj. Competing against 14 participating teams, who were the Zonal Champions hailing from various DPS Schools, the coveted Winner’s Trophy was won by DPS Vasant Kunj.

• The agile athletes of DPS Vasant Kunj bagged three Gold Medals and one Bronze Medal at the National Inter-DPS Athletic Meet (Girls Open) – 2016, held DPS Allahabad, from 17th to 19th November 2016. Our school secured the Runners-Up Position.

• DPS R.K. Puram organized the National Inter-DPS Hindustani Vocal Music Festival -2016 on 11th November 2107. DPS Vasant Kunj bagged the Overall 3rd Position

Inter - DPS National Orchestra Competition 2016

The school orchestra team participated in the Inter-DPS National Orchestra Competition 2016 organised by The DPS Society at DPS Greater Noida on the 10th of December 2016. The team won the Second Position amongst 27 participating schools.

World Cleanliness Convention

World Cleanliness Convention World Cleanliness Convention 2016, held on 12th December, 2016 in the Auditorium of India International Centre, 40 Lodhi Estate, New Delhi. Attended by: Ms. Anita Narang, along with two students, of classes 10 and 11. Report: The event was oorganised by NICER () was an award ceremony for felicitating various universities and schools, viewing the Cleanliness, Hygiene and Sanitation related work done within the campus. The event was also to launch 10 books related to Sanitation and Hygiene. The ceremony began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the various Vice Chancellors and Ambassadors, the guests of honourAmbassador of Malawi and Ambassador of Estonia, and the Chief Guest, Ms. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family welfare.The event was convened by Mr. Trivedi and Dr. Utkarsh Sharma (NICER). The Chief Guest delivered a very inspiring speech, declaring the students as agents of change who will fulfill the Prime Minister’s dream of a SwachchBharat.She also inaugurated the ‘Cleanliness Manual and Handbook’. After speeches from all the dignitaries, the ambassadors were felicitated, and the awards were distributed to the schools, our school being one of them, receiving the prestigious “World Cleanliness Education Award”.

QUIZ THAILAND-2016

Aryaman Arora of XI-I and Mrityunjay Shukla of X-F adjudged as the winner of the prestigious Interschool Quiz contest “QUIZ THAILAND-2016” organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand(TAT) on 6th December 2016 at Arya Auditorium ,East of Kailash, New Delhi. They were awarded an all-expenses paid trip (air fare & accommodation) to Thailand.

April 2016.

II. Prahlad Verma of Class X D worn consolation prize in Inter DPS Hindi Extempore held at DPS Bulandshahr on 30 April 2016.

III. Jigyasu Pant of Class X F won 1st prize in Inter School Hindi Debate held at DPS Mathura Road on 2nd August 2016.

IV. Prishita Sharma of Class IX won 1st prize in Inter School Sanskrit Bhashn competition organized by Mothers International School on 10 August 2016.

V. Hindi Department prepared the students for Theatre Festival organized by DPS R.K. Puram on 13 August 2016. Our team won 1st prize in Inter School Street play competition.

Shooting Champion

Bhavana Chaudhary, XII J, participated in the Shooting Tournament, hosted by Haryana Rifle Association from 28th to 30th July, 2016 at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range, Faridabad. She won the Gold medal in Junior Category Double Trap and the Silver medal in Senior Category Double Trap. She qualified for the state - level matches of both Air Pistol 10 m (Youth Category) and Double Trap.

She will now compete in the pre - nationals known as Malvankar Tournament.

‘Quizebate 2016’

Arnesh Chakraborty of 12-B, Tanish Kapur of 11-B and Aryaman Arora of 11-I participated in an inter-school quiz ‘Quizebate 2016’, organised and hosted by Modern School, Vasant Vihar. They secured 2nd position out of the 17 participating schools, after 3 fiercely competitive rounds conducted by one of India’s premier quizmasters, Parnab Mukherjee.

Ramya Mishra of XII-J and Saumya Malhotra of XII-I have won the Certificate of Merit in Report Writing on the theme : "Media and Tobacco : How they get the message across." in World No Tobacco competition organised by CBSE, in May, 2016.

The DPS National Swimming Meet Girls (Open)

The DPS National Swimming Meet Girls (Open) 2016 was held at DPS Panipat city from

29th to 31st July 2016. A total of 30 teams participated in the meet and DPS Vasant

Kunj stood fourth. Yashwani Suhag of Class VIII won one Gold and one Silver medal.

Riya Yadav of class XI has won one bronze medal.

PASCH (GERMAN) SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Mihika Dutta of class X and Krithik Ranjan of class XI had been awarded the PASCH scholarship for a German Language Course for young students as part of an International Youth Camp at St. Peter Ording, Germany from 29th May to 18th June 2016. The selection was on the basis of an interview conducted by Goethe-Institut Max Mueller Bhavan for German learning students from all Pasch schools of Delhi NCR. Having secured the highest scores in the Delhi NCR region, they represented India at the Camp along with students from Chandigarh, Pune and Gwalior.

There were 47 participants in the course, from four countries: Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and India.

To test their level of German, the Goethe-Institut team conducted an entrance exam involving an oral and written round for all students on the first day of the Camp in Germany. Both Mihika and Krithik were selected for the B1 level course. At the end of the 3 weeks, they gave the B1 level examination conducted by Goethe-Institute Hamburg. The examination tested their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in which they fared extremely well.

They stayed at a campus of a boarding school, called NordSee Internat which had several recreational facilities, like football field, beach volleyball, basketball, cycle tours, Table tennis and Kicker, Theatre hall, and even a Mini Golf area.

A normal day at St. Peter-Ording comprised of intensive and interactive German lessons and a lot of interesting activities to make their stay there as enjoyable as possible.

The GI team also took the students for several excursions to various German cities like Husum, Hamburg and Flensburg( a city near the German-Danish border).

DPS ALUMNI IN INDIAN CRICKET TEAM - 2016

JAYANT YADAV ,ex student of this school , passed out in the session 2006-2007 has been selected in Indian Cricket squad going to tour Zimbabwe for T-20 and One Dayer’s under the captaincy of M.S Dhoni in June 2016.

42ndAmala Chatterjee Memorial Inter School English Debate Our school participated in the prestigious 42nd Amala Chatterjee Memorial Inter School English Debateorganized by DPS Mathura Road on 5 May, 2016.

Eleven schools from Delhi- NCR participated in this much sought after debate.

Shiuli Sural of Class IX C spoke against the motion of the debate – ‘Peer Group Pressure- More productive than Destructive’ and was adjudged the BEST SPEAKER of the competition. She received a cash reward for the same.

NeelabhKashyap, IX B and Shruti Jaiswal, IX D were the other two members of the team representing our school at the debate.
