Getting to Know Richard Crown

Humble Beginnings

The oldest of six children, four boys and two girls, Richard grew up in the tiny village of

Westport, Northern California, which perches precariously on cliffs high above the thundering North Pacific. Giant redwood trees cover the hills behind town. Richard’s grandfather owned the

waterworks, his father was a lumber mill worker and artist while his mother was, well, the best mother ever.

Leaving the Nest

After two years in the Marine Corps, which instilled self-discipline, Richard went to Alaska to work in logging camps and on fishing boats. In 1975 he said goodbye to working for others at

regular jobs and became an independent contractor.

In 1977, Richard left the United States and began a life of travel… first in Latin America and then Asia. He made money to pay for his travels by doing freelance English teaching in Taiwan

and Japan.

Becoming a Professional

After starting a family in Thailand, Richard realized his need for higher education. He returned to California where he took a university degree in Small Business Management and enrolled in

every writing course that Humbolt State offered.

When he returned to his two children in Thailand, he started his own English school in Bangkok where he wrote all the course material and promotional literature. His clients were banks, American companies with factories in Thailand and Thai export companies.

Then Richard discovered playing music. For 15 years he played all over East Asia, once again writing all of his own promotional materials.

In 1997 he married for the second time and soon developed a strong interest in meditation, alternative healing and helping others. By the year 2000, he and Remedia, his Filipina wife, were

teaching alternative healing and, once again, Richard was writing the course material and promotional literature.

Richard wrote his first book, Spiritual Awakening in 2006. More books and building his own

website and blog soon followed.

6. Drafts I write several drafts incorporating your suggestions and ideas, polishing and improving on each draft until I’m satisfied. Then I send the polished copy to you.

7. Revisions You make notes and suggestions using any method you prefer, but I strongly encourage clients to use the Microsoft Word “Track Changes” function. This enables you to write as much as you want without being limited by the space on a hard copy, and it's very legible so that I can read it easily. I’ll work with you to make as many revisions as necessary until you’re satisfied. If I think one of your suggestions is not in your best interest, I’ll politely point it out, but if you still want it, I’ll politely include it.

8. Layout Revision once you are happy with the final draft, you may find it helpful to ask me to revise it one more time after you have it up on your website. Website spacing constraints often make copy look and read very different.

9. Post-Publication Revisions and tweaks are free when I'm receiving royalties. 10. Final Payment is due within 30 days of your receipt of the final draft.
