Curriculum mapping
Subject: Arabic
Intent of the curriculum – what are the aims of the curriculum and what is the curriculums overall goals?
Through this curriculum, we aim to allow students to:
· Communicate effectively using their newly acquired vocabulary and language skills.
· They will broaden their understanding of the lifestyles, culture and traditions of people living in Arabic speaking countries.
· Communicate effectively with a wider range of society and various countries of the world where Arabic is the main spoken language.
· Apply knowledge of Arabic grammar on some Quran verses to increase their understanding of the meaning of the Surahs. E.g. Al-Fatiha and Al-baqara
· If students wish to take their studies in Arabic further, they will have the opportunity to broaden their career options based on the knowledge they acquire.
· Students will enhance their skills of speaking; listening; reading and writing. The enhancement of these skills will not be limited to Arabic and as they will simultaneously improve their English skills.
· Students will become confident individuals who will be more aware of their position as British citizens living in the world; studying Arabic will encourage a positive attitude towards diversity and inclusion.
How will the Implementation of the curriculum take place in the classroom?
· This year Key Stage 4 students will be practising their Arabic knowledge and skills to prepare them for doing the GCSE exams in the future.
· The focus will be to build on the topics taught in key stage 3, to learn a deeper context of key topics in grammar and vocabulary and eventually prepare the students for examinations.
Impact – what will the pupils learn by the end of the year and how do this link to future learning. How will pupils be assessed?
A full list of the topics our pupils aim to complete are stated below. Pupils will be assessed in terms of writing and spelling by weekly spelling tests to monitor their progress. Pupils will complete an end of term revision/overview of everything learnt followed by a week of tests to test their understanding and comprehension.
The end of term exams is based around the topics completed within that term and previous terms so continue encouraging pupils to retain their knowledge and its application within the examples based around real life settings.
Pupils progress and understanding will also be assessed through the homework and classwork assigned.
Students are given written and verbal feedback given to help them improve their learning. Pupils are given enough time to practise what they’ve learnt through activities in the classroom and through class exercises.
Overview of topics to be taught each term
Year 7 :
Term 1 Topics:
Arabic Alphabet
· Teach students the Arabic letters
· The name of the letters and the pronunciation guide
· To be able to read, write and pronounce it correctly.
· Print out some worksheet`s letter for practicing.
Joining letters
· Teach students how to write the letters in joining up form.
· Teach students how to write the letters by itself, in the beginning of words, Middle, End of the word.
· Learn the Naughty letters which refuse to join on to any letter after them at the left side.
· Short vowels
· Teach students three types of Harakat called (Fatha, Kasra, Damma)
· Give students worksheet to practice
My Home
· Learn new vocabulary related to the subject.
· Learn how to write a basic normal sentence
· Print a picture with the name of the furniture and hang it on the classroom wall.

Tanween
· Teach students the three types of Tanween: tanween Fatha (fathataan) this is two short diagonal strokes written above an Arabic letter. it is pronounced “an”.
· Tanween Kasra (Kasrataan) it is pronounced “in”
· Tanween Damma (Dammataan) and it is pronounced “un”
· Gives students worksheet to practice
Madd the long vowels
· Teach students the three types of Madd ( Alif al_ madd)
· And ( Yaa al_ madd) and ( waaw al_ madd)
· Print out some worksheet to practice
Sukoon
· Teach students the small circle called sukoon written above
· A letter of the Arabic alphabet, it used to show that the letter below it has no vowel.
· Give students worksheet to practice.
Shadda:
· Teach students about the Shadda is a symbol written above a letter to show that
· The letter has doubled, and the sound be stronger.
· The short vowels are written with shadda.
Nouns :
· Teach students Nouns which divided into have Masculine and Feminine.
· Humans, Animals, and objects are either masculine or feminine.
· The Sun letters and Moon letters:
· Teach students that the sun letters are written with Shadda when they come straight after “al”.
· Teach students the Moon letters are shown above. when “ al” is following by a word beginning with a moon letter, than “al” written with a Sukoon on the laam
· To be able to understand the different between the types of sun letters and moon letters in reading and writing.

This will be achieved by teaching pupils about ‘Arabic alphabet ’ and how to joining letters ,also learn the types of sun and moon letters and all types of Hatakat .

Students will reinforce their knowledge about the blessings of Ramadhan and the acts of worship of this holy month - Students will learn about how Eid is celebrated in a Muslim household and the community spirit is seen on these occasions. They will also compare the different cultural practices which are carried out by members of different communities.

Students will learn to maintain the Islamic traditions and ibadah during Ramadhan and Eid and how this brings our communities together, and the positive effects of zakat and fasting on wider society.

Students will learn how hobbies help them use their time in a productive and beneficial way. Discussing pastime activities will encourage students to develop skills and take up hobbies that are beneficial for their mental and physical wellbeing.
