PLACEMENT AFTER SECONDARY 4(Final placement is made following year‐end results and summer school results)

Successful in Cycle 2, Year 1 (Sec 3) in all three core courses: English, Math, French

→ Secondary 4 General Path

Failed one out of three core courses (English, Math, French)  → Secondary 4 with repeat of English or Math or French 

at Secondary 3 level.  When a student is “carrying” a subject, there is a possibility of a bridge class* in Secondary 5 (subject to enrollment).

Failed two out of three core courses (English, Math, French)  → Repeat Secondary 3

*Bridge class involves 4 additional periods of English/French and loss of 4-period option course

Mathematics• Students going in to Cycle 2, Year 2 will be provisionally placed into one of the following Math courses (based on their current summary mark):

• Cultural, Social and Technical Math (MAT4C4)• Science Math (MAT4S6)

Cultural,SocialandTechnicalMath(MAT4C4)• For students who have passed Secondary 3 Math with a mark below 75%

• Minimum graduation requirement• This option specifically prepares students for studies in social and most applied arts career/technical programs as well as pre‐university programs in the arts, fine arts and social sciences.

ScienceMath(MAT4S6)• For students who have a final mark in Secondary 3 Math above 75%

• Specifically prepares students for studies in commerce, the sciences and for technical programs related to the biological and physical sciences.

Science&Technology• All students take the same 4‐credit Science & Technology course

• Any student wishing to take Chemistry and/or Physics in Secondary 5 MUST take Environmental Science & Technology as an additional 4‐credit option

• All students taking Environmental Science & Technology MUSTalso be registered in Science Math (MAT4S6)
