February 2, 2012 After 15 years working in property management and construction, Ed and Paula Regensburg, owners of Betterliving Sunrooms by Alert Construction, Remodeling and Repair, needed a new direction to help ride out the downturn in the real estate market. While the construction industry appears to be starting to pick up again, the company has a history of evolving to meet the needs of their customers. The Regenburgs have found that in the past five months being an authorized Betterliving Sunrooms dealer has made their customers happy and been a boon to their business. “We started out buying and fixing up houses and renting them,” explained Ed Regensburg. That business led the couple to create their own property management company to handle their rental properties. As the number of their rental homes grew, the call for repair work soon became a frequent need, which is how the couple got into doing repairs and remodeling. “I started out doing all these repairs, and got my general contractors license, then I started doing repairs for other people,” Regensburg said. Doing home repairs and remodeling for other customers eventually led to the company branching out into new construction. The next logical step for Alert Construction, Remodeling and Repair was to begin doing their own land and subdivision development. Due to the downturn in the market the last few years, Regensburg said, “We had to go in another direction. We still have home repairs.” He said he has found that Betterliving Sunrooms has permitted him not only to keep Alert Construction, Remodeling and Repair operating, but also to expand the locally owned and operated company. “In the last five months, we have sold and built 25 plus sunrooms,” Better Living In The Sun Regensburg said. “It has allowed me to hire five more people, and I’m getting ready to hire two more – I went from downsizing to upsizing.” “We really want people to understand that we are locally owned and operated, and are very involved in the community,” explained Regensburg. “We like the additional work Betterliving has allowed us to do and the ability it has given us to hire more people in the community. We like doing business with our neighbors. People said ‘We knew you as Alert Construction.’ We haven’t changed anything. Betterliving has not taken us over, we are still locally owned, we are just a Betterliving dealer, with a protected territory.” In addition to growing the company’s employee numbers, Betterliving Sunrooms by Alert Construction, Remodeling and Repair is currently in the process of expanding its 4,000-square-foot operation on Wendover Avenue. The building next door is being added for warehouse and showroom space. “Betterliving brings a lot to the longevity of our company and enables us to put more people to work,” Regensburg added. Prior to becoming the central North Carolina dealer for Betterliving Sunrooms, the Regensburgs added a Betterliving sunroom to their own home. “It is a fantastic room,” Regensburg said. “It’s a true sun room, or glass room. My wife loves the room. “We started out buying and fixing up houses and renting them,” explained Ed Regensburg. That business led the couple to create their own property management company to handle their rental properties. “I started out doing all these repairs, and got my general contractors license, then I started doing repairs for other people,” Regensburg said.

Doing home repairs and remodeling for other customers eventually led to the company branching out into new construction. The next logical step for Alert Construction, Remodeling and Repair was to begin doing their own land and subdivision development. Due to the downturn in the market the last few years, Regensburg said, “We had to go in another direction. We still have home repairs.”

He said he has found that Betterliving Sunrooms has permitted him not only to keep Alert Construction, Remodeling and Repair operating, but also to expand the locally owned and operated company. “In the last five months, we have sold and built 25 plus sunrooms,”
