  • Long-term costssavings

    Multi-purpose and diversity are

some of the best attributes a

product can offer, and the Rhino

    Grating products certainly offers

    these. Grating has many uses

not only in industry as walkway

    flooring but also as screens,

    drain covers and stairways.

    Better still, Rhino Grating is

    unique!

Similar to a steel I Beam

where the strength is in the

flanges, the bar profile gives a

    25% weight reduction while

    retaining strength.

    This design saves not only

    weight, but also material cost

    and galvanising cost. Savings are

also made in the design of the

    supporting structure for the

grate, as the product is so much

    lighter and stress is reduced.

    Product rangedesigned for the Australiamarket

    The manufacturing factory boasts

    an extensive product range with

a simplified key range of options

    packaged specifically for the

    Australia market.

    Rhino Grating product groups:

    Load bar centres: 30mm load

bar centres for the high foot

    traffic. 40mm load bar centres

    for low foot traffic.

    Cross bars: Cross bars

    at 100 centres (50 centres

    available on application)

Load bar range: See the tables

    shown in this catalogue for

    our range of load bars

    Tailored to yourspecific needs

    Non-standard items can be

brought in to fulfil almost any

    requirements, so if you are

interested in the products do not

    hesitate to contact your local

    representative for more details.

    Orderspecifications

    The grating comes in sheets

    Construction

    Pitch of Bearing Bar

A centre distance between the two bearing bars

adjacent to each other is called Pitch of bearing bar.

    Standard pitch is 30mm (Series 1), 40mm (Series 2).

    Pitch of Cross Bar

A centre distance between the two cross bars

adjacent to each other is called Pitch of cross bar,

    and its standard is 100mm.

  • I Bar Type Grating

The bearing bar comes in the form of an I-Section.

This type of grating is used where high strength is

required and light weight is critical.

    Flat Bar Type Grating

The bearing bar comes in the form of a plain

surface flat bar. Commonly used for platforms and

    walkways.

    Serrated Type I Bar Grating

The Bearing bar comes in the form of an I-Section with

the top surface formed by a series of notches. In

addition to its high strength and light weight, this type

of grating also has non-slip characteristics, no sharp

edges and serrations are rolled on.

  • 4Glossary of Terms

    1. Bearing Bars (Load bars)

Load carrying bars of uniform section in rolled

    steel spanning between supporting steel

    members.

    2. Cross Rods (Transverse Bars)

Rods of uniform section in square twisted steel,

electro-forged at right angles to the Load bars.

    3. Grating Panel

Completed piece of grating, cut to size, banded

and notched as specified by customer.

    4. Length of grating Panel L

The overall measurement of a panel when

measured parallel with the load bars.

    5. Width of grating panel W

The overall measurement of a panel when

measured parallel with the cross rods.

    6. Area of grating panel (Gross Area)

The total area of flooring including cut-outs,

notches etc. as used in estimating and invoicing

    (area = LxW).

    7. End Plate (Banding Bars)

Finishing bar of same section as the load bar

welded across the ends of the load bars also

around cut-outs and notches where these occur.

    8. Kick Plate (Toe Plate)

Heavy Section bars nominally standing 100mm

above walking surface of floor welded to the

ends and sides of panels also around cut-outs

and notches where these occur. NB. Kick Flat is

only supplied when and where specified.

    9. Cut to size only

Specifies that panels are to be supplied cut to the

overall length only exclusive of end banding bars.

    10. Serrations

Small notches are rolled in the top edge of the

load bar to assist in skid resistance and have

    no sharp edges.

All clearances shown are recommended only as panels dimensions canvary in accordance with the manufacturing standards.

We recommend that cut-outs around circular obstructions be 50mmgreater in diameter than the obstruction and we suggest that pipingcut-outs, nominally 100mm or less in diameter be done on site duringinstallation.

  • Fastening Methods

    9

Important note: When there is no lateral restraint provided by the support structure, a minimum of four clips per panel must

be used to restrain floor panels. Where larger panels are to be fixed, it is advisable to use extra clips on any

    available intermediate supports.

    1. Field welding

    Recommended for all permanently installed

gratings, and for gratings that are to be removed

    only at infrequent intervals.

    3. Saddle Clip Type -B

This can be secured quickly and safely by one man,

using only a box-end wrench, working from the floor

    surface.

    5. Saddle Clip Type-D

    2. Saddle Clip Type-A

May be used in installations where grating is

subject to frequent removal. When it is possible to

weld the stud bolts of saddle clips to supporting

members in the field. Galvanised M8 nut and bolt.

    4. Saddle clip Type-C

This can be secured quickly and safely by one man,

    working from the floor surface.

  • International Standards Guaranteed

When quality is the cornerstone of all operations, standards must follow international benchmarks.

Supplied throughout Australia, Rhino Grating is made to international standards and the factory is accredited

    to ISO 9001:2000.

The ISO 9001:2000 is an international quality management system involving external audits and stringent

    quality management criteria.

Incorporating fourteen grate forging machines, the factory has high manufacturing tolerances.

This is shown in the unique vertical alignment of the load bars, resulting in a stronger, better-looking product

    for our customers.

The standard applicable for galvanising is AS/NZS 4680 Hot Dip Galvanised (zinc) coatings on fabricated

    ferrous articles.

Quotes and orders are the initial steps in product supply, however these are each critical stages.

The more information you are able to supply, the more accurately we can answer your queries.

The basic information we require for either a quotation or an order is:

    1. Type of load bar

    2. 30 or 40mm centres series 1 or 2

    3. Which way the load bars span

    4. Cut outs, penetrations, kickplates fully detailed drawing with clear dimensions

    5. Grating plain or serrated, are there nosings.

    6. Are fixing clips required
