RGS CAREERSPROGRAMME
We thought that it would be helpful to provide a programme of Careers events and talks at the start of the new academic year. This document includes events, trips and talks that are run specifically by the Careers Department or the Oxbridge co-ordinator. There are many trips, presentations, clubs and other enriching activities that are run by individual departments in addition to those that are set out here.
Parents are welcome to come to Careers talks, which are put on at lunchtimes between 1.30pm and 2.10pm; please just let me know on [email protected] if you intend to come along, so that I have an idea of numbers. Most Careers talks are appropriate for Third Form and above, but younger students are welcome if they have a particular interest. In addition to the events described here, Lower Sixth students will have five double period Careers lessons, while Seventh Form students will have sessions at the start of the year to finish their university applications, as well as five double period sessions on student finance and budgeting.
Unfortunately, by its very nature, the dates set out here will be subject to change. Nearly all of the speakers are giving up their time for free, so if clashes come up they may need to reschedule. In addition, I often take up offers of further presentations during the course of the year. It is, therefore, best to check each week in the bulletin for the latest dates and for exact timings.
The Careers Department keep a document detailing any external courses that are being run to help students with Career or university preparation. This is updated each week and can be found on the Taster Courses link on www.rgsinfo.net If students would like to go on any courses which require them to miss a day of school, they must seek permission from Mr Jones [email protected]
Finally, please do be aware that the Careers Office is open every lunchtime between 1.30pm and 2.10pm and for at least two periods of every day. Students are very welcome to come in to talk with members of the Careers Department without appointment. Parents should feel free to contact us at any time, although be aware that we do teach, so we may not always be available to take your call. We will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible. The Careers Library is available for students to make use of at all times.
