We evolved from a parts specialist into

a developer and producer of machines

and entire production lines. We moved

to the Turfkade where we had more

room to expand. Steel was replaced by

aluminium and by more hygienic stain-

less steel a little later on. We grew to

become a specialist in using this mate-

r ial and developed a wealth of knowled-

ge and experience.

More machinesIn the early years, meat processing

companies and mushroom businesses

were our main customers. To cater to

their requirements we expanded our

range with machines for cooking and

cooling.

In the mid-1980s we also turn ed our attention to machines for the pet food

industry, followed by solutions for fresh products and lettuce.

Professional locationWe continued to grow and in 1984 we moved to our current location at Bedrijven -

park Twente. This is an excellent location offering possibilities for expansion of

which we took full advantage. We now possess an extremely spacious production

location with professional facilities. We produce machines for pre-processing,

slicing, washing, drying, mixing, blanching, steaming, cooking and cooling vege-

tables, lettuce, pasta products, meat and fish. We develop advanced machines

and have won diverse awards.

Intelligent total solutionsFTNON now operates on a global scale and employs 80 people. Around 95% of

our sales come from outside the Netherlands. In 2006, we opened a branch in the

United States. Our customers will certainly confirm that our company is more than

just a machine producer. We anticipate their needs, look to the future and develop

intelligent, customised total solutions to assist them in their activities.

We have plenty of ambition. This was the case in 1963and it is still true today. After the company’s foun-dation, it grew from being alocal provider to a nationalspecialist within just a fewyears. It soon became clearthat the Dutch market wastoo small for us. We wantedto enter European marketsand preferably also crossthe Atlantic to the US.

FTNON and global operations

Urschel's main objective is to make innovative products.

Every year new techniques and applications are presented

that help customers further optimise their production pro-

cesses. "When it comes to technical applications for the

food industry the Netherlands is already far ahead",

explains Hugo Witsenburg, Sales Manager at Urschel

International Ltd. in the Netherlands. "A company such

as FTNON is evidence of our strength in designing lines.

We supply the cutting machines for these lines.

Cutting is a highly specific application that demands

considerable expertise.

At Urschel we have the in-house knowledge

to design the right machine for any appli-

cation. Our machines are durable, easy to

use, reduce waste and increase production.

Moreover they are extremely precise, which

means that they improve the end product.

FlexibilityUrschel operates on a global level just like FTNON.

"We are represented in 45 countries", reveals Witsenburg.

This means that as an organisation you must be flexible,

whether it involves Europe, the United States or Asia.

We are able to do so thanks to our local presence.

We have our own representatives in each country, which

know the local market extremely well. This is the basis of

our international success."

There is a great deal of expertise related to machines for the foodprocessing industry in the Netherlands. Companies all over theworld opt for applications that use Dutch technology. This isalso proven by Urschel Laboratories, Inc., global leader in thedesign, production and sale of precise food processing machines.

Global leader in foodcutting technology

We easily achieved this objective and now operate on

a global level. We even opened a branch in California

in 2006, where lots of food processing companies are

established. The office in the US provides sales and

services to customers in the region.

European customers are served by our Dutch branch.

Customers in Asia and Australia can also count on fast

service. We work with experienced partners worldwide

that speak our customers' language and possess the

right in-house knowledge related to our products and

applications. Our partners are in direct contact with our

office in Almelo.

The advantages ofvibration transport

Would you like to learn moreabout our techniques? Read on.

FTNON and continuous developmentConsumers are becoming increasingly demandingwhen it comes to food. Products must not only betasty but also have a long shelf life and be safeand easy to prepare or use.

Processes in the food industry are more complex than ever. This requires suitable

machines that help simplify processes and ensure that products comply with the

requirements of customers as well as the authorities.

From its beginning in 1963, FTNON has developed machines that satisfy market

demands. The R&D department continuously works on developing new technol-

ogy to be able to process products better, more hygienically and more efficient-

ly. The result is an extensive range of machines with unique properties and a

well-thought-out design.

Wastewater treatmentThe food industry uses large quantities of water, as an ingredient butalso to cook, cool or clean. The resulting wastewater must be treatedso that companies can reuse it or dispose of it safely.

For filtration applications FTNON uses

products by HP Well Screen. This specialist not only develops prod -

ucts for oil and gas extraction firms

but also on a large scale for the food

industry. FTNON's machine ranges

use HP Well Screen drum sieves,

sieve plates and sieve bends.

Transporting food using vibration offers the advantage

that no revolving or moving parts come into contact

with the product being transported. This means that

it is possible to transport products from one point to

another without any contamination. However vibration

technology is also applied for dosing with great preci-

sion or for sieving or separating prod ucts. "In prin-

ciple each demand is new", explains Jeroen van

Rooijen, Area Sales Manager Netherlands at Key

Technology. "We always develop an application that

satisfies the end customer's specific requirements."

ExpertThe key to FTNON and Key Technology's partnership

involves them working together to develop an effective

product. Van Rooijen: "Our business relationship al-

ready goes back quite a long way. Today, the bonds

are even closer. We are experts in our field and want

to be more than just a supplier. We are happy to use

our knowledge and expertise to anticipate our part-

ners' needs."

Key Technology BV produces inspection, transport and sorting machines for the food industry. It is a subsidiary of the stock listed firm Key Technology USA and the Dutch branch in Beusichem serves Europe as well as the Middle East, India and Africa. The company specialises in optical sorting and transport systems using vibration technology. This vibration technique is regularlyapplied in FTNON's machine lines.

FTNON develops and produces a large variety of machines for the food industry.Anything is possible as long as technology allows it. Whether it involves individ-ual machines or fully integrated production lines.

The latest cutting and foldedsheet metal techniques

For laser cutting and folded sheet metal work FTNON enlists the servicesof Van Hengstum Apparatenbouw in Soest. This company possesses awealth of in-house knowledge and expertise. Today Van Hengstum hasevolved to become a specialist in subcontract- ing and equipment construction.

It applies the latest laser cutting techniques to

provide customers with the right base products.

It’s combination of modern technology and employee expertise is unique.

Van Hengstum can offer customised solutions like no other.

"We perform a lot of laser work for FTNON", director Peter van Hengstum tells us.

"Our collaboration began during a holiday period when other suppliers were not able

to deliver on time. It worked so well that we have now developed into an extension

of the company. It’s an important role. Our components form the basis for FTNON

machines. This means that we have to deliver more than just high quality.

Advanced equipmentAt Van Hengstum laser cutting is performed with advanced equipment from Bystronic.

Van Hengstum: "We possess two large capacity machines that we use to cut our

products using the latest technology. We are highly skilled in this area. We use an

Amada folding metal bench for our sheet metal folding work and a Bystronic folding

metal bench with a wide working width and a pressure of up to 200 tonnes.

Combined with our professional tools we can achieve extraordinary technical feats

on our folding metal benches.

FTNON is working on revolutionary productsDeveloping and innovating is in our blood. Since the Sixties, we have been constantly prod ucing machines that can do more, which are better for the environment and offer theuser as much comfort as possible. We do so on our own initiative as well as in response tocustomer demand.

In recent decades we have launched various innova-

tive products that have not gone unnoticed by the

international food sector.

Super centrifuge A revolution in fresh productsThe drying process is an important step in a lettuce

processing line. The popular batch centrifugal systems

are too technically complex or damage the lettuce,

which reduces the product’s quality and shelf life.

FTNON developed a super centrifuge for drying lettuce

that reduces the number of components and this

offers advantages for a product's quality and shelf

life. The new centrifuge uses one central bearing.

The system is characterised by an optimal centrifugal

process, also for fragile products. The system is easy

to maintain due to its minimum number of compo-

nents. It is also easy to use because only two vari-

ables need to be set. Moreover the centrifuge is easi-

ly accessible, which means it can be cleaned quickly.

So it is no wonder that the super centrifuge for dry-

ing lettuce won second place at the Food Valley

Award 2013.

DCC® SteamerThe DCC® steamer makes it possible to steam prod-

ucts with exactly the right amount of steam. If pro-

d uction is set at half capacity then only half the amount

of steam is needed. The steam is regulated fully

automatically. Handy, smart, and energy efficient.

Air dryer for lettuceThe system for drying fresh lettuce, vegetables and

herbs using air is a revolutionary development.

The low final moisture levels ensure that the product's

shelf life is extended and improves quality. Thanks to

the special construction the build-up of bacteria is

virtually eliminated. The system is extremely easy to

clean so that product changeover can be done quickly

and frequently. Moreover the system is characterised

by minimum energy consumption and optimal reuse

of waste energy.

In addition to rollers Interroll designs and produces drum

motors for the food industry. These drum motors comply

with the strictest requirements in terms of quality and

hygiene and are regularly used by FTNON. A drum motor

for the food industry must satisfy several important condi-

tions. It must guarantee optimal hygiene as well as be able

to operate effectively in a wet environment that is regularly

subjected to high pressure cleaning. Johan Westenbroek,

key account manager at Interroll, explains: "We design drum

motors that comply with all these requirements. Innovation

is paramount in our company. Our R&D department is con-

stantly busy developing new products that allow machine

manufacturers to improve the productivity and efficiency of

their products."

Unique technologyInterroll is a specialist and has developed unique technology

to increase the power of drum motors. Westenbroek:

"We apply asynchronous and synchronous technology in

our drum motors. It is a completely new development that

is not offered by any other supplier. The drum motor is a

niche product and our products are even more specialised.

They offer ideal solutions for diverse packaging machines."

Interroll is the largest provider ofcomponents for material handlingsystems worldwide, from conveyorrollers, drum motors to crossbelt sort -ers. We supply our products to OEMsand system integrators. The industriesthat Interroll focuses on are: Ware -housing & Distribution, Industry and production, the Food industry,Courier/express and postal services,Airport logistics and Healthcare.

the food industry. Read more about

this topic on the next page.

11

Interroll's innovativetechnology

Ensuring proper hygiene isa legal requirement in thefood sector. Neverthelessarticles related to contami-nation regularly appear inthe news. Our sensitivity tobacteria has increased pre-cisely because of the impro-ved levels of hygiene.

FTNON offershygienicdesign

A phenomenon that leads to ever increasing demands

from supermarkets and other companies that are involved

in selling foodstuffs. FTNON assumes its responsibility by

designing machines that can guarantee a process that is

as hygienic as possible. They are produced from stainless

steel, which can be effectively cleaned and also reduces

the adhesion of bacteria. Furthermore we use special

plastics that possess the same properties and are FDA

approved. However the most important aspect is the

machines’ construction. On the one hand the machines

must be optimally aligned for production and safety and

also be able to guarantee a hygienic process on the other.

BalanceIn our designs we avoid seams or blind spots where food

residues can be left behind. For effective cleaning you have

to be able to see the surface. Our engineering department

is constantly busy searching for the perfect balance

between ease of use, hygiene and safety. Since 1993,

one of our top priorities has been to optimally align this

'triangle'. This is recognised by our customers and the

people who use the machines on a daily basis.

12

Innovation is par

amount to FTNON. Go

The food industry is also a major target group. Habasit de-

velops innovative products in which efficiency and hygiene

are key, especially for use in this sector. Hygiene continues

to be an important aspect of the food industry. Habasit des-

igns conveyor belts that fully comply with the frameworks of

hygiene regulation, such as the European Regulations EU

1935/2004 and EU 10/2011. Supporting customers in the

field of hygiene is important to the company. Habasit not

only shares knowledge but also wants to offer customers

technical support from the design to the implementation stage,

for new and existing systems. Customer specific tests can be

performed at its extensive R&D department complete with a

test centre. The Innovation Centre in Basel offers the possi-

bility of replicating every imaginable environmental factor.

Cleandrive conveyor beltsThe Cleandrive positive drive conveyor belt is becoming increas-

ingly popular for wet applications, in which hygiene is critical.

The belt has a completely smooth and sealed surface.

This means that the Cleandrive can be cleaned easily and

quickly, which provides significant savings in water consump-

tion and maintenance hours. Cleandrive conveyor belts are

reinforced with Kevlar cords. They make the belt exceedingly

strong and moreover provide minimal stretching and optimal

stability.

Cleaning in PlaceHabasit developed the CIP (Cleaning in Place) system to

facilitate fast and reliable cleaning for plastic modular belts.

The HyCLEAN CIP system cleans using low water pressure,

which provides water savings of 70% compared with manual

cleaning. What's more it uses fewer chemicals and saves

users labour costs.

Preventive maintenanceUndesired production line downtime is minimised by perform -

ing regular inspections. Every company implements stoppages

when the system is inactive so that maintenance can be

performed. This is the ideal occasion to perform inspections.

Thanks to years of experience the Habasit Service Engineers

have an effective understanding of the business.

They inspect the condition of the conveyor belts, provide

advice about their expected lifespan and record all this infor-

mation in a report. In addition to reducing undesired down-

time this also increases the efficiency of the process, result -

ing in a reduction of overall maintenance costs.

Our machines are suitable for a widevariety of products. Read more aboutthis on the next page.

Hygienic solutions from Habasit

Fresh lettuceCrunchy iceberg lettuce, tasty rocket or attractive oak leaf

lettuce with fresh garden herbs; customers always want the

best of the best. This represents a major challenge for pro-

ducers because lettuce products and herbs are fragile and

require special handling. Our machines ensure that lettuce and

herbs retain their freshness and natural properties perfectly,

and minimise any damage to them. Pre-processing, washing

and drying are performed using a meticulously designed pro-

cess. This results in products in perfect condition that offer

an excellent shelf life.

The most appealing fruitSliced fruit must taste as fresh as possible, even several

days after it has been prepared. We possess the in-house

technology to process apple slices, melon chunks, pine-

apple segments and other types of fruit so that they retain

their optimal quality. Discolouration and moisture loss are

reduced and the hygienic conditions during preparation are

optimal, whether the task involves pre-processing, coring,

coating, washing, sterilising or cooling.

Added value for vegetablesHard vegetables and root vegetables must be handled in the

right way. Pre-processing, washing, steaming, blanching,

BrimaPack Advanced packaging solutions for iceberg lettuce and broccoli

Director Ron van de Pavert explains:

"Recently the company focused on

extending the shelf life of broccoli.

A special film was combined with a new

packaging principle. Another unique

project involved developing mobile har-

vesting systems which grade, pack and

label iceberg lettuce in the field. This is

a fast process and requires 50% less

manpower than the usual method. The

process simultaneously offers improved

food and traceability with substantial

lower harvesting and packaging costs."

BrimaPack mainly concentrates on

vegetables cultivated out in the open

for the fresh market and therefore

complements the products offered by

other partners in the group. Van de

Pavert: "The group is able to offer

customers a full range of products.

Many companies grow produce for

convenience food and also for the fresh

market. The partners not only refer

customers but also share knowledge.

BrimaPack collaborated with Perfotec

to develop the special shelf life film."

BrimaPack specialises in harvesting, packaging and sorting productssuch as iceberg lettuce and broccoli. The company mainly focuses onexports. BrimaPack regularly works on special projects in addition todeveloping and producing customised packaging machines.

We cannot stand still. So the company isworking hard on its future. Find out aboutour ambitions on the next page.

Director Bas Groeneweg explains: "The American market needs relative-

ly long shelf life periods. Fruit and vegetables grown in the US are of

a high quality but you see that at the end of their shelf life a lack of

oxygen causes odours to be produced. Perfotec developed packaging

with micro-perforations that extends the shelf life by several days.

Strawberries now remain fresh for up to ten days instead of just five

and this is the result of a purely natural preserv ing method. The dif-

ference lies in the conditions. Perfotec is able to create conditions that

offer the optimal oxygen level. The new pack aging results in better

quality and less waste. The company has just launched this product

but it is already obvious that it is going to be incredibly successful.

Therefore it is vital that the company can also provide a meticulous

service. Thanks to its cooperation with partners in the HFMG, Perfotec

is able to guarantee a high level of service anywhere in the world.

All the partners operate on an international level. What's more the

companies possess the right in-house

knowl edge to support our customers."

PerfoTec’s technology mainlyfocuses on extending a prod-uct’s shelf life. The companypossesses a wealth of in-houseknowledge in this field andapplies it to develop advancedsolutions. One example is anew product that was recent-ly developed for use in theUnited States.

NatureSeal products were the first to effectively control en-

zym atic browning, keep a crisp bite and limit purge, critically

with out imparting any flavour taints. Based on patented

blend of vitamin and minerals, NatureSeal products are

approved for use throughout Europe and are relied upon by

processors worldwide. NatureSeal R&D, commercial and

technical support is driven by NatureSeal Inc. in the Americas

and by AgriCoat NatureSeal of UK.

AgriCoat understands that to achieve best quality all aspects

of the process must be considered; from the quality of the

raw materials, the processing machinery, through to product

handling, packaging and perhaps above all the integrity of

the cool chain. NatureSeal is just part of the process and our

approach has always been one of open innovation and

collaboration with leading suppliers including fruit importers,

and manufacturers of processing and washing equipment

and experts in packaging. One of the challenges has been to

develop cost effective products, without compromising quality.

FTNON as a leading innovator in fruit processing with its fruit

dipping systems has made a great contribution in providing a

reliable and cost effective method for applying NatureSeal.

Twentebelt has been specialising in

high quality metal conveyor belts for

over 100 years. Besides applications for

the chemical, pharmaceutical and pac-

kaging industries the company designs

customised belts for food technology.

Twentebelt produces conveyor belts for

FTNON that fully satisfy the customer’s

specific application and operational

conditions. Depending on the demands

and requirements Twentebelt's engin-

eering department develops eyelink

belts, wire mesh belts or spiral wirelink

belts in various materials. In close con-

sultation with FTNON targeted solutions

are devised that help customers optimise

their processes, whether they involve

cooking, baking, frying or freezing

foods, pasteurising tinned food and

drinks or degreasing

metal objects.

FTNON is looking to the futureAn even higher level of hygiene, ease of use, design and concern for the environment

Flexible, durable and easy to maintainThe possibilities offered by metal conveyor beltsTwentebelt offers a solution for every production process

In fifty years our company has achieved a number of major

developments. We have designed machines that operate

better, faster and more efficiently. Food security has always

played an important role. Hygiene will continue to be a 'hot

item' in the future. But we are looking further ahead.

We want to produce machines that reduce product loss to

a minimum. The optimal use of base products not only

offers economic advantages to our customers, it is also

better for the environment. As a responsible company

we believe it is our duty to devote attention to this area.

We want our machines to consume as little energy as

possible and strive to reduce the use of chemicals.

Source of inspirationComfort on the work floor, safe and ultimate ease of use;

our engineers rack their brains over these issues on

a daily basis. A machine must make the job easier and in

doing so contribute to an efficient process. That's why we

continue to immerse ourselves in our customers. Their work

floor is our source of inspiration.

The look is also importantOur machines have never been cumbersome but their design

has clearly evolved over the past fifty years. We continue

to think of ways to package the best technology in an

appealing manner, simply because the look is also important.

And what’s more if you are proud of a handsome machine

you take pleasure in your work.

Metal conveyor belts provide numerous advantages for the food indus -try. In addition to a long lifespan and 100% operational reliability theyguarantee easy maintenance, low costs and additional flexibility.
