You will need a sheet of paper. Fold and tear the paper lengthwise.
Use one piece of tape to make “extensions” to your draft.
Introduction-Your attention please! How does the beginning capture the
reader’s attention? ( What device? )
How can you strengthen this? ( Do you have more than 5 sentences in the introduction? )
REQUIRED On your ‘extension’- Add/change at least
two sentences to make improvements to your introduction.

Introduction:What is the issue? What is the opinion
statement? Does the introduction end with a clear statement of
opinion?
Body- YOUR SUPPORT
Are there at LEAST 2 body paragraphs? ( If not, you need more)
What is the first reason of support? What examples or evidence did you provide? Did you use tools of persuasion? ( See persuasion handout) Each paragraph needs a minimum of 8-10 sentences.
Do you need to add details to make your argument stronger? Can you add examples or facts?
Body- WORD CHOICE
CHOOSE AT LEAST 5 WORDS TO REPLACE WITH 5 MORE INTERESTING WORDS.
Use a thesaurus.
Are there words that are unnecessarily repeated?
BODY- Sentences
Are all sentences complete? Do you need to combine any to make them clearer? What transitions can you add?
Conclusion
Does the conclusion summarize your opinion with a STRONG concluding statement or a call to action?
Can you make use of a device?
NOW……
Make a clean copy of your paper IN PENCIL. DO SO NEATLY!
Some general tips
Use standard English. NO text speak.
• Write in the third person unless otherwise directed.
• Avoid slang terms, clichés and colloquial expressions. Use formal language.
