Objectives

As an integral part of the School of Humanities of the Ateneo de Manila University, a Filipino Catholic Jesuit University,

the Theology Department brings to bear

the living Catholic theological tradition on the total formation of the Ateneo students,

the goals of which are academic excellence, social responsibility,

spiritual maturity, and cultural rootedness.

This is pursued through systematic reflection—critical, contemporary, and inculturated—

on human life as illumined by Christian Faith and its implications for personal and social commitments.

Policies

Before reading through the detailed class policies, I have a list of four specific behavioral patterns that I find annoying.

Patterns of tardinessPatterns of absenteeism

Going in and out of the classroom while classes are going onPatterns of “making excuses”

Page 8: Revised TH131 Syllabus

Policies

On General Classroom BehaviorThe rule is simple and universal.

Treat everyone in the same way that you expect to be treated.

On Classroom AttireWear whatever suits you.

On Lateness and CutsYou are expected to arrive promptly for the 330PM class.

You will be receive a cut if you come in after I have taken the attendance. However, strive to come to class,

even if you are already late and marked absent. If you go beyond 9 cuts, you will be dropped from the class list.

On Going Out of the ClassroomI will only permit three reasons for going out:

LBM, incontinence, and life threatening situations. If you go out without permission, you will be marked absent.

Going out to print a paper or to get something you forgot to bring to class will mean risking a cut.

On the Use of GadgetsLaptops, Digital Cameras, and PDAs are the only legitimate gadgets

that you can use during the class. Doing other things impertinent to the class

is strongly discouraged (websurfing, working on other papers, etc.) Use of mobile phones or phone functions

(e.g. taking/making calls or sending/reading SMS to friends/family) for multi-functional gadgets (e.g. smartphones) are also strongly discouraged.

Keep your mobiles on silent mode.
