Sharing the Joy
of the Gospel for Generations
In just a few short weeks, contributions have
been made to the 2019 Archbishop’s Annual
Appeal and the tally continues. In these trying
times, the need of our surrounding community grows and
the assistance provided by the Appeal becomes all the
more crucial. If you have not yet made your gift to this
year’s Appeal, please consider doing so in the days ahead.
Your gift to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal will help
continue the vital services, ministries and programs that
help so many throughout our Archdiocese.
All funds contributed to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal
are used exclusively for the purposes outlined in the
Appeal literature, which can be found at https://

asked of any man - to be the husband of the woman who would
give birth to the Messiah, and the father and protector of the Holy
Family, the man closest to Christ....

“We cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” Mother Teresa
Today is the 4
th
Sunday of Lent – have you told God you’re sorry and asked for forgiveness?
In today's Gospel, we hear the parable of the Prodigal Son. Prodigal means wasteful or careless; we hear how the younger son spent
all of his inheritance that his father had given him.
Listen closely to the Gospel to hear what happens to the Prodigal Son.
The father in the parable is an image for us of how much God wants to forgive us.
In our lives, we are sometimes like the younger son; we wander away from God. At other times, we might be like the older
son, jealous of the love and forgiveness that God shows to others. This story shows us the meaning of reconciliation. It
shows us how God forgives us and how God wants us to show mercy and forgiveness to one another.
During Lent, we remember this story and we ask to be reconciled with God and others, especially through the Sacrament
of Reconciliation.
Many Religious Ed & St. Gabriel School students have already received the sacrament of Reconciliation during class. If you’ve received first Reconciliation
but haven’t gone to confession yet this Lent, ask your parents or grandparents or godparents to take you and encourage them to receive the sacrament too!
Be sure to prepare before you go to confession – think and pray about the choices you’ve made and the things you are truly sorry for, know how to receive
the sacrament, and the Act of Contrition. Father will help you if you need help.
During Lent Father hears confessions on Mondays each week at St. Gabriel Church at 12 noon and at St. Joseph Church at 6:30 pm, and on Saturday April
6 & 13 at 4:30 pm at St. Joseph Church.
