The Zohar Speaks to the Heart oUs All

Question: Whats the signifcance oThe Book ofZoharin Our Time? Are we now obligated to study

The Zoharin order to attain spirituality?Yes, its clear cut. Ive been waiting or that or a longtime and I didnt want to start the study oThe Zoharprematurely. I even said the contrary, Why shouldwe studyThe Zohar? One might have assumed thatBaal HaSulam composed the work o his lie or no

particular reason but, o course, thats incorrect. Theidea is that we had to be prepared or it.

Today, were beginning to study The Book o Zoharwith everyone because we have become o a sucientmass to attain a position allowing us to climb up the

same ladder together. Whoever can nulliy himselwith all o his might like a baby, studying together

with us out o the desire to enter the eeling discussed

in The Book o Zohar, is welcome to join the study. Thisstudy doesnt require intellect and not many sketchescan be drawn or learned throughout. The Book o Zoharspeaks to the heart or the purpose o openinga persons emotions regarding the discernments obestowal and receiving. Hence, Baal HaSulam entitled

his commentary The Ladder rather than any othername.

The sections oThe Zohararent equal. Some parts aresimple in their language and depth and other parts aremore dicult. We wont study in order o the weekly

portions. Rather, we will begin with the simplersections and going orward, it is similar to what welearn about the order o clarications. When we haveentered emotionally, which is to say ater we havebecome accustomed to The Book o Zohars style andhave ocused ourselves properly, we will be prepared

to study other sections as well. Then, we wont onlyyearn, we will actually crave or The Zohar; we will

develop a sort o particular appetite or it. The truth

is that there is no dierence between the depths oeach and every section oThe Zohar. Rashbi and BaalHaSulam interpreted them to their ullest spiritualdegree. The dierence is only with reerence to uswho are the students.

    Its Time

Question: Whats so special about this periodcompared to previous ones or us to now beginstudyingThe Book of Zohar?

The dierence is in the preparation. We spoke aboutunity and related issues at great length until we realizednothing would help us other than unity.

We have always said that it was impossible to read TheBook o Zoharwithout a group but, now, we actuallyeel it on our own fesh. I believe that couldnt havebeen reached previously. Even though we discussedit, we werent yet willing to go and "cut the ego outo us" as, otherwise, we wouldn't attain anything.Previously, we didn't have the mindset to reach thatinternal decision.

I hope that today, with the help o the general eortand the help o the authors oThe Book o Zohar, we

will attain that. I don't think we had the opportunity

to attain that prior to opening the televisionchannel which elevated us to another degree o ourinternality.

    The Zoharas the Means orSalvation

Question: Is there a group eeling o the Creator?

There is personal, individual attainment and there

is group attainment. For now, were at the stage oindividual attainment and are attempting to shit intogroup attainment. Thats the uture o the world romour generation orward. The wisdom o Kabbalah hasbeen specically revealed today in order to lead theentire world to group attainment.

Thats the reason were now beginning to studyTheBook o Zoharwhich was composed by a group andis revealed only in a group. The primary issue is themutual connection among people that resembles theconnection among the members o Rabbi Shimon

Bar Yochai's group who wrote this book.As previously mentioned, the world stands beore a

new era in which the revelation must be in a group.

Actually, the whole world is one group. Thats identicalto the events near Mount Sinai. Hatred existed amongpeople but they were told, "I you do not demand theCreator now, then here, with the hatred amongst you, shall be the place o your burial."

Despite the hatred, one condition was set beorethem which was to bond as one man with one heart. However, that's impossible as I hate everyone so muchthat I can't bear to look at them even i it costs me mylie! Then, the Creator, the Upper Force, is revealedspreading peace between these two opposites. The

spiritual vessel is the depth o the egoistic desire rombelow, the screen rom above, and the Upper Lightresiding between them.

We have to reach the situation in which, on the onehand, we hate each other, on the other hand, we loveeach other, and yet we demand the revelation o theorce o bestowal among us.

Thats what stands beore our generation. Were in the

process o advancement toward global unity and thatswhy were studying The Book o Zohar. Were preparedor it, undoubtedly. We hope the world will also reachthe realization that such a possibility exists and that itwill happen peaceully.

The Book of ZoharIs Open to All

Question: What should be the internal work o aperson watching the Internet or television duringthe reading oThe Zohar?

The Book o Zoharis an opportunity or us all to revealthe true reality within us. A person who organizes andsorts out our current reality, along with revealing itsinternality, senses within not only this world but thespiritual world as well. Then, he doesnt encounterany confict between the corporeal world seemingly

outside o him and the spiritual world inside himor between the concealed and the revealed. Rather, everything is revealed within his desires. Correctiono our desires allows us to open our ability to see themand to eel them.

Its important to stress that even people who arent asprepared as we are to perceive The Zoharcan join thestudies and gain the exact same qualities. Its similar

to a baby born today. The adults provide him with

all o his needs based on what was prepared or themin previous generations and adapted to the level otodays world.

Thus, those inants joining us today who are ournew members can merit the exact same revelations we

expect and there is no dierence between us. Theywill hear to the extent they are willing to hear, to theextent o their unity with us, and their annulmentbeore the studies. When I hear that they are anxiousand anticipating, and perhaps even reverent o thisstudy, I am lled with joy because such a eeling is

a vital condition or connecting with The Book o Zohar.

Preparation or Studying The Bookof Zohar

Preparation or studying The Zoharshould be specialand emotional. It should be a type o yearning

like craving or a loved one. There are no words todescribe it. This emotion should involve a little pain,a little desire, and a little love. It should be like asilent concern or the object o your desire, internaland constant, and a type o longing. It should be apreparation and not an assault. It shouldnt be crass or

intellectual, but a true inner bonding.Excerpt rom a Kabbalah lesson, Nov 13, 2009

    Constant Preparation or StudyingThe Zohar

The Zohar requires great preparation o us prior toits reading, while reading and ollowing the reading,

and actually, all the time. It elevates the individual toa certain degree rom which he mustnt all. From themoment he starts reading the book and onwards, hislie begins to operate on two levels. On one level, heexists within the text oThe Zoharand, simultaneously,on the level o beast as well. However, rom the

moment he is at the level o studying The Zohar, henever leaves it.

Hence, all the other scriptures we read should be anaddition or discerning and providing additional toolsto help us merge with this text. Everything, includingin regular lie and in our connection with riends, already constitutes an added contribution to perceive,to permeate, and to be amiliar with this book.

Accordingly, each one should organize all o reality

and his entire lie.I remember that when I began studying The Book oZohar, it truly designated a type o change which wasa dramatic change or me. The power oThe Zoharisound in the way it stabilizes the individual and leads

him to a certain steady state in which he remains allthe time. The Zoharprovides us with a certain spiritand height and then, everything we do becomes anaddition which increases that height.

The Condition or OpeningTheBook of Zohar

I think that studying about the three lines is thecritical area where one should demand eeling. This

is because working with the three lines is all-inclusive:restricting the desire to receive, elevating to Binah, merging with the Creator, receiving the orce obestowal rom Him on top o ones original desire, andbuilding the soul with receiving in order to bestowalong with the work o the ace. The three lines is

the comprehensive usable ormula or the creaturewithin the will to receive rom the beginning o ourwork until the end o correction.

While studying about the three lines, we shoulddemand reactions and eelings resembling those weexperience when engaged in internal struggles olie similar to cases in which we encounter an innerconfict such as when you must get up but cant, or

greatest extent, and to live reality with a single desire.

The Creator created one desire and we exist withinit. The Book o Zohar tells us about that desire andall that takes place within it. We would like to see, understand, eel, and to experience everything takingplace within that entire desire called reality. Its o

extreme importance to continue that inspiration andthat enlightenment as much as possible when we leavethe lesson and not to let it be extinguished.

    Awakening Mysel intoConsciousness

Some people thinkThe Zoharspeaks o morals as iturning to us as a kindergarten teacher would to herchildren, saying, "You should be nice to each other.Others think that The Zohartells us about the world

or spiritual mysticism way out there disconnectedrom us. Some think that The Zohartells us nothingbut, rather, it constitutes a certain connection separaterom us in a way understood only by Kabbalists. Andthen there are others who read it as a type o remedyor health or success in lie.

There are numerous approaches and were comprisedo them all. Were in an ocean o preconceived notionsregarding The Book o Zohar and we need to ghtthem. All o those notions exist within us and areinfuencing us through the public ater thousands o

years o viewing The Zoharthis way. Hence, we needto constantly work on ourselves.

  • 8/8/2019 Revelation of the Book of Zohar

    23/128

    23

Out o all o those approaches, we choose the rst and

oremost one which is the perception o reality. In themeantime, were not adding our internal work to itwhich is called the work o the Creator. Its possibleto add many discernments and urther searching tothe study since The Zohartells us o a complete entity,o true reality, and the dierent discernments therein.

However, we dont wish to do so.

When we start studying The Book o Zohar, we desireto establish the proper approach to the written word.I dont care whats written; Ill know that aterwardwhen The Zoharopens to me, when the Surrounding

Light that it brings infuences me, when I begin to beinspired, and, to a certain extent, when I work withreality as its revealed.

In the meantime, I must only direct mysel the entiretime, upholding mysel, and maintaining my properapproach to the opening o the book. I dont open itmystically but I permeate the material itsel. I openthe book and I see my inner attributes which are

  • 8/8/2019 Revelation of the Book of Zohar

    24/128

    24

only my desires and nothing else beyond that. My

inner, spiritual anatomy is depicted beore me. I dontopen my biological body but my soul which is alsomade o those same parts as my body. In addition, itincludes everything I see in the surrounding world aseverything exists within the soul. Those are the parts Iwant to identiy and to concentrate on now.

Thats how we need to teach ourselves to relate to TheZohar. The Zoharspeaks o the soul alone. The soulis the entire desire created by the Creator and I wishto discern all o its levels, attributes, and connectionswithin.

So, lets continue to maintain this approach all thetime. It can be compared to a baby who, beorebeginning to understand the world and respond to it,must rst see that the world exists. Thats why we playsomething or him or give him something shiny. Wewant it to enter his eld o vision and sight. Likewise,or now, we only need to discern the qualities spokeno in this book.

  • 8/8/2019 Revelation of the Book of Zohar

    25/128

    25

Surely, were not capable o doing that on our own

but the approach, the exertion, is what allows theSurrounding Light to infuence us. This means, tothe extent we desire to be acquainted with the thingswe read, they seem to radiate their requency onto ussince all o reality is nothing other than requencies.

Every object and each discernment has a certainrequency. When I try to acquaint mysel withthem, I get a certain requency in response, calledSurrounding Light and senses begin to awaken inme. Since those senses exist in me, the Reshimoexists and I only need to orce mysel to draw near

to that rst image which is within me but not yet inmy consciousness. I need to orce mysel back intoconsciousness.

    Being Impacted byTheZoharLike a Baby

Nature has set up a very strange entrance or man intothis world. When hes born, no one explains anything

to him upront. He isnt told who his mother and atherare nor given the emotions nor intellect acquired byprevious generations.

Hes born as "a piece o fesh" and later, begins to haveimpressions o this world such as heat, cold, darkness, light, sounds, noise, and silence. In the very beginning,

he eels nothing and responds to nothing. Only aterseveral weeks, we notice that he suddenly respondsdierently to various things. He starts responding tohis mother and to things that are done with him. Hestarts crying, laughing, and becoming aware o theworld. Suddenly, he has an internal drive to know hissurroundings and his body. Thats how he grows. Itsa true wonder.

    27

On the other hand, an animal is amiliar with his

world within the rst ew weeks. Ater a ew days, hecan already get along in the world to a certain extent.Thats quite dierent to man whos not capable odoing anything without help physically rom theoutside. I we were to leave him in the orest, he wouldgrow up like a beast by adapting to his habitat.

All o man's growth in our world results romimpressions, examples, behavior patterns, and ormsexisting in our world. We create orms and games orchildren to take apart and put together. We use colors, sounds, and everything possible. Its all in order to

develop a person so hell be ready to go out into ourworld. Instinctively, were built so that we wish to givechildren everything we have because, otherwise, hewont be t or lie. Thats a desire that arises in usnaturally and we cant infuence it in any way.

Its impossible to "plug man in" to a certain computerand load him with an array o knowledge withouthim gradually going through the necessary stages. We

    28

cant develop senses, responses or sensitivities other

than in a gradual ashion through various impressions. It usually takes approximately twenty years or evenmore. Actually, even we, the adults, are still learning. Were disappointed by not suciently knowing ourworld. Suddenly, at the age o 40, 50, or 60, we startthinking, "I I had only known this beore" Man

continues to develop throughout his entire lie.

The same applies in spirituality except that, inspirituality, one needs to discover where his motherand ather and his surroundings are. Where are theorms, the games, sounds, and colors, necessary or

his growth? I he doesn't receive them, he wont be tto emerge into the spiritual world; it wont open orhim and he wont recognize it.

Imagine leaving a newborn as is without investingin him but only sustaining him and no more. What would become o him? He would remain "a pieceo meat." Its the same with us. I we don't receiveconstant, new, and dierent impressions rom the

    29/128

    29

outside, even when we don't understand them similarly

to a baby who doesnt understand whats happeningaround him, we wont be able to grow. In spirituality,we must ll ourselves with various infuences rom theoutside although these are truly external impressionsrom the spiritual world exterior to us. That infuenceis provided to us byThe Book o Zohar.

Hence, its such a unique book. No other book aectspeople like The Book o Zohar. A person who readsand hears can understand a little more, a little less, ornot at all. It makes no dierence. This book lls himwith all kinds o impressions and infuences o which

he, himsel, is unaware. However, gradually, similarlyto the period it takes or us to grow up, we studyTheZoharand receive constant impressions rom it. Thoseimpressions will permeate us and they, themselves, take care o our advancement.

O course, we will be accompanying the reading oThe Book o Zoharwith certain explanations in orderto allow people to connect with it to a certain extent.

Yearning "to Understand What IsBeing Taught"

The Book o Zohar is divided into dierent portionsand some o which seem to be very "dry." Some

portions are written in the language o Kabbalah, others in the language o the Bible, and still others inthe language oHalacha(Jewish law) which discussvarious holidays and the like.

However, we need not pay attention to the wordsthemselves. It doesnt matter to me what the word is

that I hear since the Kabbalists took these words romthis world. The world itsel seems to have nothing todo with what they would like to convey to me. Whatsimportant to me is only to receive a sort o "innerpinch" or a sensation instead o the word.

Baal HaSulam writes in The Preace to the TalmudEsser HaSefrot, letter 255, that we should approach

the scriptures with a strong desire and urge to

understand what is studied. Understanding meansto be excited, inspired, and connected. As its written,"And Adam knew Eve his wie," which means tohave an internal connection since its rom that desirethat we draw the Surrounding Light. In other words, knowledge means nothing; its only the desire thats

    meaningul.

Thereore, its o utmost importance to me to desirea eeling o whats happening here rather thanunderstanding these words because its not possible toacquire the spiritual world with the intellect. We need

new vessels developed only through our desire whichdraw the Light that Reorms or the "SurroundingLight."

Surely these words dont evoke particular inspirationas they are very dry. However, i despite these drywords, I search or the emotion and the image thatshould be depicted within me or in my desire, thisgives me even greater benet than i I read and am

    Perceiving Reality Like a Baby

Question: What should I desire to eel when I readabout "Elijah," or "Noah," or example?

Imagine youre a baby about to be born except that, inaddition to the "clothing" of a baby, you will also havethe understanding of a mature adult from the previousincarnation. How would you accept the world? How wouldyou open it? Imagine what you would feel as an infant.

In other words, you exist and your exterior exists, andboth of those matters are different; they are two separate

worlds. How do you now reveal the world? You knownothing but you try to absorb it. You have no reference foreach and every object. It can be compared to the NativeAmericans who didnt perceive Columbuss ships when theyapproached America's beaches since they had no patternsof those ships. You simply want to perceive, understand, and become familiar with the world in some way.

Aiming Mysel toward theGoal with the Words

The possibility o being able to change ourselves byreading a certain book is truly amazing in the way it

allows us to eel as i were in a world which, at thatmoment, cant be elt or even imagined. With everyslight change happening within us here, even i its onemillimeter toward that world, it already brings aboutso many huge changes like ascents, descents and allsorts o changes that we cant even comprehend.

Suddenly were hazy. Suddenly, we nd ourselves inthe darkness and in dierent moods. You suddenlyeel tall or suddenly you eel short. However, these stillarent spiritual changes but rather are psychologicalones resulting rom us becoming more sensitive tothe occurrences in our world. The true question ariseshere as to how that can be. Where is that orce, that"device," that causes such a great shit that I cant even

explain? Certainly, the language o The Zohar is so

unique that I constantly search or ways to explainhow it works.

We have an unidentiable goal which is a separateand concealed world so distant and opposite to usthat we have no contact with it and no possibility o

identiying it. However, we can aim ourselves towardit i we have two things along the way. Similar to usinga rife, we have, rstly, a scope and, secondly, an intentwhich we use to aim at the target and we will denitelyhit it. How can that be done with TheBook o Zohar?Instead o a scope, we have a heart and a point in

the heart, and we have a mind which is undoubtedlyconnected to the heart supplying it with all its needs.Likewise, we have our ve senses.

In order to aim ourselves toward our goal, we need tounderstand that The Zohardescribes various imagesin the language o Midrashsuch as, "Every rst borno an ass you shall redeem with a lamb." It uses termssuch as "lamb", "mule", "ox", "cow", "Holy Temple",

"sacrices", "Teflin o the arm", and "Teflino the

head"along with all sorts o terms rom the languageo the Midrashthat depict a corporeal image or us,meaning objects, actions and various things rom thisworld. I should expect that at a certain moment whilereading The Book o Zohar, I will begin to sense thedesires and qualities behind all o the amiliar terms

    rom this corporeal world.

This is not about spiritual concepts like "in order tobestow", "intent to bestow", "Creator", or somethingrom some unknown world, rather its about myqualities to the extent that Im capable o depicting

them. In other words, I exist and behind every word, two things exist which are the physical image rom thisworld and the desires rom the spiritual world. I Imcapable o depicting these two concepts within me, iI am able to detect that behind every word there is adesire which increases, decreases, does something, or

connects with something, I begin to ascribe emotionsto them because the emotions are desires. I begin

to notice how they exist within me and play with

Ascending rom the Branches to theRoots

Question: Why do we need to understand thespiritual interpretation o every word oThe Zoharrather than its simple, physical explanation?

The Torahshouldnt be lowered to this world. We needto ascend rom the branches to the roots or rom thisworld upward. We shouldn't take the spiritual worldand lower it to our world. In any case, we don't havethe same rules in our world. What would we gain by

that? We would gain nothing more than unproductiveimagination.

All o the conusion in our reality stems rom peoplenot understanding spirituality and not being in it.They imagine what spirituality is and then clothe itin corporeal orces. For example, it would be as i Ihave the orce o giving in my right hand or the orceo receiving in my let hand or that my body has some

parts which are more sacred than others.

All o those things are absolutely unacceptable. Wemustnt connect anything spiritual to things weunderstand and eel in our reality in this world. There is nothing sacred in our world. Theres nothingsacred in the still, vegetative, animate, speaking, or in

anything carried out in our world. The Book o Zoharis considered "holy" because its the means through which I can ascend into holiness. "I," meaning thepoint in the heart, belongs to the spiritual world orthe holy world and it resides within me. Contrary tomy entire nature, one little point exists within me and

through that means I can ascend to the holy world orto bestowal.

Still, its not the paper or the print which areconsidered holy. The letters in the book arent holy."Holy" is the unity between the Light and the vesselwhich is symbolized by that letter.

    The World Resides Within Me

When I approach reading The Zohar, I must do thatout o unity with the entire world or all o reality.Everything is within me. There is nothing other thanme and other than the Creator.

How can I include them all within me? I can includethem only i I sense them as my own: "As my own"means by love o them. However, even without usingthe term "love," I must approach the text rom mypoint which is rom the realization that man is a smallworld and the entire world is within me.

I stand beore the Upper Light or beore the Creatorwith all o the qualities and observations and with allthat I have. I dont imagine anything outside me. Ihave no history, no geography and no universe. Thereis nothing other than me, the Creator, and the screen

    Viewing Reality Correctly

I I take all o the orms and explanations that Ilearned in school regarding the Bible, Jacob, Esau,Issac, Abraham and everything told in The Zoharandapproach the studying oThe Zoharsimilarly, I enter

a state o great conusion. I dont concentrate at all onwhat The Zoharis actually telling me. While reading,I need to emerge into space as i there is no Earth or asi it only appears that everything that once happenedto him actually took place. I need to understandthat time, motion, and place are imaginary notionsexisting in our mind alone and there is no such thing.I call reality the act that I imagine that somethingexisted two-thousand years ago and even go and digand nd certain bones. All o that exists within mymind and my emotions. However, I wish to elevate

to the correct discernments regarding the desirewith "reshimot."I wish to explore the desire with the"reshimot"and not that archaeology.

I want to view this entire world as existing within my

I want to view you as patterns or as gureswithin my desire and not only as bodies sitting herebeore me. I wish to see all o reality with my desireincluding the Creator. When that happens, it will be

"Malchut o Ein So"and I am located within her. Ineed to condense it all into one and to accept thateverything exists within one desire.

Why do I see so many gures, actions, operations, and motions dependent on time, motion, or place,

physically or spiritually? It results rom the Lightwhich the Creator created in me. It gradually leads meto the true, correct eeling. I I want to perceive thecorrect reality, I mustnt see something and relate to itas occurring outside o my desire. From the time we

We will have to conduct a "war" with ourselves time

Why don't you imagine that those orms you see onthe screen exist in the computer? This is because youknow that there are electrical orces stabilizing thatorm or you. In comparison, you arent aware o our

A person studying The Zohargoes through great andvarious changes. Firstly, he changes his ocus on liewhich means the matters to which he pays attentionto or not. Secondly, he becomes more introspectivein his inner emotions; thirdly, his relationship with

others changes and he makes more space or that.

A person studying The Zoharsuddenly starts to thinkabout the actions he reads in The Zoharand to viewthem as more internal acts than our world. Clearly,a person studying The Zohar, changes. The Zohar

changes him, calms him, makes him more internal, more serious, and more goal-oriented. The Zohar'sinfuence is very strong and is not at all dependenton the extent o his comprehension; rather on hisexertion or the extent to which he tries to perceivewhat is taking place here and whats being discussed.

The Correct Eort while StudyingThe Zohar

All o our ocus, our entire search, is always within. Actually it happens unconsciously even when

we use the spoken language, slang, we say, Hes ascattered person, whereas he is more extroverted, more introverted, more ocused, etc. Its because wesense thats how things operate in nature.

Each one o us has to search the more internal state.Actually, we will never be able to detect a higher state

Thats how we are. In the same text we will discovernew discernments, new connections, since everythingis measured by those who receive it. Thats all o our work. Nonetheless, this process will lead us to therevelation that the entire world is within us, thereore,

In that way, time and time again, day ater day, without even knowing how, all o a sudden, we will

    Focusing on Reality

Try to penetrate the heart, with all o its thick layerswithin, and try to detect what is taking place in theselayers because something is happening; only we donot eel it. The Zoharis situated there, the Creator is

there, and the entire worldeverything exists thereinside, within the heart, within our desire, except Iam not conscious o that and I cant detect it. I amsimply sealed, as i intoxicated, unconscious o whatis truly happening within me. Ater all, were in the World o Innity and everything exists. The onlything we need to do is to try harder to enter inside, probe and scrutinize where each and every thing issituated therein.

It can be described dierently: Lets say we have acamera through which we should see the reality inside

us. I have to change my qualities with this camera, ocus with the lens, and perhaps with all sorts o

other actions, in order or the things The Zohartells

Consequently, I look insidemysel and see which qualities I need to alter in orderto become closer to that, or it to enter my ocus, andor me to see those things with my inner camera.

Simply try, no matter rom which direction weapproach the issue, rather only the eort o searchingthe inner image is essential: What am I lacking inorder or it to happen? Where exactly in this imagedoes the whole o reality exist; I, all o the other souls,

Its incorrect that we do not need to understandanything, and that even a person who doesntunderstand gains something. A person gains, according to his eort to be included in what TheZoharsays. It doesnt matter i those are good things

or bad things, rather the importance is in passingthrough and experiencing them like an adventure. He should desire to fow with these waves The Zoharbrings, just like with an adventure book. The Zoharis disclosure. However this disclosure canonly be within the will to bestow when he has some

desire to slightly rise above our world, to unite andto eel as one man in one heart, and to some extentdiscover the Upper One. This intention should beconstant, and we need to keep it at least during thestudy.

Everything Exists Only YourEorts Are Needed

The Torah speaks only o a persons internality, othe spiritual world existing within me. Desires to

bestow, instead o the will to receive, constitute thespiritual world.

At the moment, I perceive all o reality, everythingincluded in my sensations and emotions, within me and thats what is called this world, since I receiveit through absorption. Similarly, i I invert mysel

rom receiving through absorption to receiving bybestowing, I will reveal the spiritual world. So I needto be entirely ocused within, in order to detect thesediscernments within me.

You ask, why did they conuse us, the sages oThe

such as: The bull ghting the cow, along with all

sorts o concepts; seeds, women, slaves etc, whator? One tells us oSephirotand worlds, the othertells about this world, about the labor o agricultureand the Holy Temple, whereas Moses tells us abouta certain history. Why do they tell us about what istaking place within us, in this ashion?

You do not yet understand, but trust them that bydeliberately conusing you in that ashion, they areable to direct you to enter the eeling o perceptionthrough bestowal. There is no world, no historyor worlds. Everything is in your will to receive.

However in order to lead that will to receive romreceiving inside itsel to using it to bestow by thatmeans, we must accept these images in this particularway. We need to make the eort to shit rom thisperception to another one. This eort leads us tosomething completely dierent.

Why? You do not know. Yet, just understand thatthere is nothing articial here. Rather, the images

the Talmud or Kabbalists or those who wrote inthe language o the legends, are images describingthe Light and the vessel within us. There is nothingarticial here, as i someone were to suddenly writesomething, rather it happens naturally.

Hence, ater you hear it once, accept it and be sureo one thing only: You need to eel internally thatit speaks o you alone. Ask yoursel: How does thathappen? Which o my qualities, desires and thoughtsdo I label with all o these names; water, food,Creator, creature, Noah, wicked, righteous,

A Person is A Small World

Question: What is that special place toward whichThe Book of Zohardirects us?

The Zohardirects us only to open the world within

us, where there are all o the types o discernments: I,the world, the still, vegetative, animate, speaking andactually anything I can imagine, including mysel. Allo thats inside, within me. Thats how I should relateto mysel and The Book o Zoharwhich opens me tome. The Zohartells me about mysel, through all o

the historical and geographic observations I read in it.All o it takes place within me.

What does it mean takes place within me? I inact, am the screen, and the orce called the orceto receive is what paints all kinds o orms, characters

and actions on my screen. This orce paints stillnature, the vegetative world, the animal world and thespeaking world to me, on the corresponding degrees

o my will to receive. All o thats portrayed within my

desire, by the means o my will to receive.Baal HaSulam explains that within us there is a type

impressions rom the orce residing and operatingwithin it, which paints orms that we discern as still, vegetative, animate and human.

So, when I read The Book o Zohar, I have to pictureme as a small world, where everything is inside me the sea, mountains, colors, sounds, trees, people, and

everything taking place happens within me. Then, Igradually begin to shit rom the shapes The Zohardescribes to properties, qualities. The spiritual vessel is revealed whenI begin to approach mysel and the entire world asone desire created by the Creator, which I only senseas thousands o desires, dierent qualities, movingin separate directions and or varied purposes eachis dierent, all is shattered and scattered in everydirection. From a state o not seeing the cause o whatis happening and where it all is going, I have to beginto approach it as one single entity, as one vessel, oreverything I see is my soul.

I am teaching you how to "ocus" on the spiritualworld. To the extent you develop eyes or it, you will

Were speaking o the way we enter that eeling. Similarto the way an inant enters this world, naturally andsimply. Can we give intellectual reasoning? What can we explain to him? First, he must be lled with allkinds o impressions. Aterwards, he attains variousobservations: This is hot, thats cold, this is light, thats

Similarly, were now about to revealthe spiritual reality, and thats what were discussing.Hence, there is no point asking me "What is that on

Not to see this world, rather to ocus on an entirely other spot, to ocus onit attentively and begin to see through it alone. Itresembles 3-D pictures, or when you look at them,at rst you do not see anything. However, when wedo not look at the picture's surace, when our ocusis spread out instead o ocused on the picture itsel, rather attempting to somewhat enter it, we begin to

    Yearning Is the Prayer

Prior to every portion we read rom The Zohar, we have to return to the intention. Were nowdealing with the internal Torah, revealed withina person. We have all kinds o thoughts, later

all kinds o desires are awakened in us, and wealso have all kinds o qualities; and within theircore, the spiritual reality were reading about isrevealed. Hence, all o our concentration andanticipation should ocus on revealing this realityinside, within us.

I should constantly tend to that, to try to seewhere and how I respond to it: Is anything withinme shiting in correspondence with these words?Even imagine it, it doesnt matter. Try to locatethese internal motions, and the yearning itsel

already constitutes prayer. Ater we becomeaccustomed to approaching the text in this way,

we will add our interconnection to the habit,

since The Zoharwas written only in order to buildthat connection.

And even this interconnection, is not amongstthe bodies, rather inside, within us. Within me,all o the points o all o the souls exist, each

and every one, and I have to construct thatconnection within, between what is called the "I"and the image, the model o all the rest o thesouls. Within that connection I build my internalspiritual vessel, within which Divinity will berevealed. In other words, all concentration should

be internal. It makes no dierence which words we read. Wecan read words that remind us o names or placesrom the Bible, or all kinds o plants and animals,or work in the Holy Temple, or all sorts o humanactions, such as love, hate, birth, or death. It makesno dierence. We have to constantly rememberthat they all reer only to my internal phenomena.

    Hardships as Blessings

We should relate to The Zoharas a remedy. What Iread is not important, whereas the searching itselis, the desire to locate in me all thats happeninginternally. There are times when a person succeeds in

that and he "fourishes," reacting internally to everyword, and sometimes he doesnt. However, we haveto understand that i we say that primarily during thestudy oThe Zohar, it is the eort put orth, so actually, the dicult times when I exert mysel yet nd nothingin the text, but orce mysel to continue, those are themost useul times or my advancement; much morethan other times, in which I seem to be able to nd apositive reaction or every word in the text, discoverdiscernments within me and am inspired. In short,"The opinion o "Torah" is opposite o the opinion o

the landlords," as Rabash, my teacher used to say.In act, in situations when its dicult or us to

penetrate the text, we achieve a great deal rom every

tiny eort, compared to situations in which you areinspired and do not exert yoursel, rather allow yourselto go with the fow, and thus lose out. In other words, particularly the times when a person hangs on withhis teeth are the most ecient. Those

are the conditions or actual work, in which we haveto try to concentrate ourselves inward, urther andurther and to locate that particular word or concept within us, that combination o them, etc. By theseeorts, we grow, like a baby.

Sometimes, when I work on texts, it takes me three

or our hours to enter the text and see something. Iknow nothing can be done, other than the exertionthat must be made and the time that needs to pass.Actually, those hours when I anticipate entering it arethe best hours or advancement.

Hence, you should view those situations as a blessing you are being given space or work, the opportunity

Yearning or Sanctity in the Dark

When I read The Book o Zohar, I should yearn tosense that it speaks o me. It tells me in a very strange way, somewhat weird, what is happening insideo me, and me alone. I have a liver, lungs, kidneys,

spleen, digestive system, etc. Besides those systems, Ialso have emotions and that alone is spoken about inthis book. Within that eeling there are many desires, qualities, thoughts, urges o sorts. I have to ask mysel:Other than my fesh, who is the human being insideme and what do I see? Exactly what the authors oThe Zohardescribe here to us. Within this "person"inside me, there are qualities called "Jacob", "Esau","ox" "ass", "birds, trees, Adam, and Noahs ark.Tree is a very special desire in me, a unique quality. The "ark" is a special quality within which I can hide

and be protected.I have to start working with that. What does it give

me? In truth, it doesnt give me anything, nothing at

all. However, by trying to locate these things, a orcecalled The Light that Reorms reaches you, and orit you should yearn. Lets say you leave the lesson andsay to yoursel: I succeeded! Today I elt I understoodwho Jacob, Esau, Israel and others are. Well, so what?It means nothing. Its possible that the next time you

leave, you will say to yoursel: I didnt understandanything, everything is dry, I couldnt concentrate. Imanaged to make an eort to detect it inside me oronly a ew minutes. Yet, those ew minutes are yourprot.

Thats concealment. Only one who invests himsel, respecting these times when there is the sensation otastelessness and a lack o enlightenment, and yethe still wants to advance toward bestowal, he aloneprots.

Its not in vain that Baal HaSulam writes in the "ThePreace to the Talmud Esser HaSerot" that the stateso concealment are actually the ones in which you can

Hence, whoever works in the dark and eels itspointless, needs to understand that these situations

are very useul or advancement toward bestowal,to such an extent that with time, he wont wish orother states, rather will realize that the eort is thereward. Those moments in which you are beinggiven the opportunity to exert yoursel, withoutreceiving anything that revives your ego, your evil

inclination, your pride, understanding, intellect, oreeling yet you still have the opportunity to straina little and make immense eorts those are the bestsituations. The ability to reach such a point o contactwith Sanctity in the darkness constitutes the reward.During those states, you are clearly not being bribed

Persistence and Exertion in theRight Direction

Question: What is more important while studyingThe Book of Zohar: Persistence, exertion or

intellectual preparation?Only exertion and persistence are necessary, withoutany intellect. In The Preace to the Talmud EsserHaSerot", letter 133, it describes the way a personattempts to climb a mountain as all the king's guardsconsistently stop him. He has to pass those guards,

be wiser, more persistent, and stronger. He has toovercome all o those hardships and somehow getup this mountain, thus being worthy o reaching theking.

    Constructing the CorrectApproach to Lie

Yesterday, someone asked me: "How should I behavein my lie when I hear that everything is inside, that

everything is within me? How should I view the world? How should I view my loved ones, my enemies, andin general everything that goes on around me?" Iunderstand that people get conused when they hearo various internal observations, but they have tounderstand that there is a desired situation and reality,

meaning what we sense exists, and "we can only judgewhat we see." Hence, we have to work and have totalk.

On the other hand, we aim ourselves to attain truervision, more internal, and independent o ego, ourwill to receive. We aim to disclose the concealment, toreveal the truth and to exist in a world o two orces:The orce o the Creator and the orce o the creature.

  • 8/8/2019 Revelation of the Book of Zohar

    93/128

    93

Thats a dierent world rom the one we live in today,

where the orce o the Creator is concealed and onlythe orce o the creature is revealed. In addition, welearn that there is another reality, in which we see it allas two orces within us, with no reality outside.

However, these things arent realistic yet. Were

incapable o understanding that were in a movie andthat our lives change to the extent this movie changes. We still think something may happen with ourworld, since in the meantime we only see one angleo reality.

Hence, when we speak o what The Zoharwants to

In the meantime, I am onlyin my present state and thereore have to disconnectrom it and try to construct the true image. This islike a child who wishes to behave as an adult and or

The Book of ZoharAects a Group

We need to understand The Book o Zoharaects thegroup, not the individual person. Hence, i we do notthink o the bond among us while studying, we willmiss the primary issue. We have to be united while

reading The Book o Zohar, and think only o unitingthe vessels with each word and in every discussion.

You may say: "But you always say that we should sensethe issues within us, that we need to enter and there, within our desires, search or the animals, the sh,

Noah, the Creator, the people within us, and work with them. Whereas here, you are again revertingback to the external group.

However, the group is not external. The group is thesorting out and the putting together o all the desires

within me that are called "exterior to me." EverythingI eel thats outside me is actually inside me. I have toconnect the concept o the I within me with the

concept o externality, the others inside me. I do

not eel the others are outside my body, rather insideme, within my desires. Thats how my desires aredivided.

The wisdom o Kabbalah teaches us that thereis internality and externality o the vessel, the

surrounding and the interior, and that we shouldcorrect the internality along with the externalityby uniting them. Hence the group represents thedesires I attach to me. You may say: Wait, what is themeaning o connect everyone to me? Ater all I havedesires which I am incapable o correcting! Thereore

I reply that you attach them, sort them out and onlythen say: This, I am incapable o correcting, but itsmine, nothing exists that isnt mine.

Such an approach allows the person to include the

    Correcting the Connectionbetween Us

In many cases, The Zohar writes that all is one,and provides an explanation which connects various

things. I we also intend to see things that way, we willtruly begin to see how it accumulates and is revealedas one. Lets begin now, during this lesson, to do anexercise, or everything The Zohar describes to behappening between the others and me. Its actuallytrue, except that at times we may search inside and

at other times, outside, out o our skin, beyondus, external to us. The Zohar speaks only about theconnection between the others and me. Right, let, middle, and all the types o relationships onlyspeak o this connection.

Why? Because when this connection existed, therewas nothing to discuss, all was revealed, the vessel andthe Light were complete. However, the connection

We need to pay special attention to this part o the

wisdom o Kabbalah. The Zohar speaks to all, andits goal is only to connect. The moment there is aconnection, we sense what takes place within it. Thespiritual world maniests in the unity, the Creatorexists in the unity, and He is already there, we do notneed to do anything, except attain that picture which

already exists. All these degrees exist; we do not haveto do build them. We only need to adapt ourselves tothose degrees, and then, to the extent were adapted tothem, we will sense what is taking place within them.

Everything is attained only through the intensity

o the connection the greater the intensity o theconnection, thus the revelation will be stronger andhigher.
