Overview The Bundesrechenzentrum (BRZ) or Federal Computing Centre of Austria is the leading IT- service provider of the Austrian public admin- istration. The BRZ have specialized in IT and the special needs of the public administration. Challenge The BRZ acts as an integrator between the processes of public authorities, citizens’ needs, and the services of private industry. It provides support with optimum end-to-end solutions, enabling efficient, service-oriented interaction between state service provision and its cus- tomers—the citizens of Austria. The Federal Computing Centre of Austria im- plemented Retain Unified Archiving because it needed a legally compliant archiving solution, compatible with both Opentext Livelink and its GroupWise ® system. The Federal Computing Centre of Austria (BRZ) has GroupWise post offices and domains that service over 13,000 users. Before implementing Retain Unified Archiving, the Federal Computing Centre of Austria was unable to provide a legally compliant archiving solution for the various government divi- sions that they serve. The BRZ had chosen Opentext Livelink as its strategic enterprise content repository. Any archiving solution it was to use had to support this system as its target data location. BRZ needed to provide a central data reposi- tory for the various government divisions it serves. The choice fell to Opentext Livelink, the top ECM solution. Opentext Livelink fea- tures a powerful archiving server, the Livelink Enterprise Archive, which is connected to a dedicated storage area network. Solution BRZ’s choice of Opentext Livelink was not only because of its great features, but mainly be- cause it was also supported by Retain Unified Archiving. Retain Unified Archiving allows BRZ to be legally compliant in archiving email messages.
