Retail is defined as the sale of goods or merchandise from a fixed location such as a store or a kiosk.

• Cashiers are usually an entry level position into retail. They are responsible for totaling the amount of the purchase and then receiving payment.

• Salespersons are responsible for assisting customers. They answer questions of the consumer and help them find what they need.

Inventory AssociatesInventory Associates

• Inventory associates make sure that stores have product to sell. They remove product from delivery trucks and put them into warehouses and on the sales floor.

• Retail managers are responisible for making sure the store runs smoothly. They are responsible for resolving customer disputes and making sure the store is earning a profit.

• Ever since I can remember I wanted to work in a store. I loved the people, the environment and the constant exchange of money. Retail is a very fast paced and challenging career. In order to be successful, one must be highly motivated, outgoing, and able to multi-task.

• Point of Sale (POS)-POS is a way of ringing out sales that are connected to inventory systems and banks for credit cards.

• Just in time inventory system (JIT)-A way to order in product as product is sold to avoid being out of stock of a product or burdened with excess inventory

• Scheduling-Many employers are now using computerized scheduling programs such as Staffworks to schedule employees according to projected buisness needs.

• Payroll-On a computer employees can punch in and out for their shifts and payroll can be processed with a click of the mouse saving a large amount of time.

• Many retailers are shifting from a brick and mortor store to a 24/7 webpage where consumers are able to have access to product specifications and place orders around the world saving money and time.
