of car parking and ramps throughout the site with specialist yellow safety road

marking paint. With significant help on sourcing from our trade contract partner,

Dulux, we completed the task just in time for the scheduled opening.

Our surface treatment advisers were called in to sort out a difficult problem with

the external paint system at a major Sainsburys store undergoing refurbishment.

We analysed the steelwork and developed a remedial treatment for the entire

structure at half the cost of the original estimate. We were also on hand to

complete a full internal redecoration programme of Marks & Spencer’s Grade I

listed “Pantheon” landmark store on Oxford Street as part of a full refurbishment

in 2007.

Another full refurbishment programme at Chelsea’s favourite store, Peter Jones,

and again Lucas was called on to provide a complete decoration service, both

internally and externally. We were closely involved in the design process and in

the development of the works programme so that the store could remain open

throughout the two-year programme. Peter Jones even recorded its best sales

figures at the time. Careful planning succeeds every time.

Lucas has a tremendous reputation in the retail sector. So who better, then, to

decorate the newly refurbished West End headquarters of REISS, one of the

Duchess of Cambridge’s favourite clothing brands?

Lucas has many years of experience working in the retail sector for the nation’s favourite High Street multiples, for the biggest shopping centres in the country and for some of the finest stores in the West End.

Lucas has embarked on a major upgrade and refurbishment programme for

Marks & Spencer. Our responsibilities include drylining new petitions, erecting

new suspended ceilings, creating spaces for window displays and complete

decorating programmes as the stores are given a facelift. We are liaising very

closely with the contractor on the logistics of the programme, and work through

the night where necessary, to ensure that each store remains open throughout.

Our retail experience led us to decorating some of the biggest shopping centres

in the country – Lakeside, Bluewater and most recently Westfield Stratford City.

In each case our teams slotted neatly into the construction phase and devised

real-time solutions to overcome difficult problems as they arose.

Our painting packages at these centres have included both front and back-of-

house areas. But they have also required detailed specialist work and the

development of new products. We worked closely with the owner and the

designer of Bluewater to develop a signature faux stone external look for the

centre with our own Muralplast paint. At Westfield, after successfully delivering a

number of complex painting packages, our team pulled out all the stops to complete

the unexpected and urgent task of painting 11 km of curbs around the multiple levels
