In it s e arly days it was pr imaril y entrepreneurial in nature with most owners operating small fleets of vehicles in a geography where t he s er vice was located. The economic liberalisation had a cas cading effect. Althoug h, s till small and restricted to business hubs and tourist centr es , car rentals ha ve, nev er theles s, cross ed the critical mass. Notwithstanding the continuing buffeting of the present global economic s lowdown, the worldwide car rental market is anticipated to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.50% in the period 2007/2010.This increme nt, even though compa ratively modes t, is expected to come from the developing markets of China and India as well as from Australia and the Middle E ast (Sou rce: indus tr y estimates). Internationally , ca r rentals are a US$ 30 billion (Rs . 144, 000 crore) indus tr y . In India, it is s til l largely unorganised. S mall- time operators dominate about 85% of the ma r ket. HistoryIn 1946 Warren Avis opened the world's firstairport car rental location at Willow Run
