Many good samples can be found online. Resume Content Certain information is important to include on a basic resume. Standard resume sections should be in this order: Heading Your heading should include your personal information: • Name • Street address (optional) • Phone number (not work phone) • Professional email address (do not use AOL, Hotmail, or Yahoo) Career Focus What position are you actually seek- ing? Make it short and to the point. Summary of Qualifications or Professional Summary This section should be the highlight of your resume and include skills you have obtained. List your best skill or quality first. Do not forget skills that make you unique such as knowing another language. Be very specific about technology skills. Do not include Microsoft Office Suite if you are only proficient in Word or PowerPoint. Work Experience/Employment List each place of employment in reverse chronological order. Include: Dates of employment Job title Organization name and location (street adress not neccessary) Volunteer work and internships (paid or non-paid) are valuable opportuni- ties to add to your skill set. This infor- mation may be in a separate section. Education and/or Training List each school in reverse chronologi- cal order. Be sure to include: Dates of attendance Degree/major (earned or pursuing) Graduation date or anticipated date (if applicable) Additional certifications Include honors, awards, scholarships, achievements, relavant coursework There is no need to include high school after 24 college credits or if you are a graduate of a specialized training school. Other Useful Headings Military Training Professional memberships/affiliations Honors and Awards Additional Resume Tips Tailor your resume to a job description. Be concise! Limit the resume length to one page (two maximum). Be consistent. Use the same typeface and size (10–12 pt. body, 14 pt. heading) Use resources to assist with describ- ing tasks. Hook them! Immediately explain why your background makes you the best candidate. Keep the �rst paragraph short and hard-hitting. Speci�cally identify the position you are applying for and how you learned about the opening or company.

Detail what you could contribute to this company. Show how your quali�cations will bene�t this company. Remember to keep this letter short. Few employers will read a cover letter over one page.

Describe your interest in the company. Emphasize your knowledge about this company and your familiarity with the industy. You should present yourself as eager to work.

In the closing paragraph, speci�cally request an interview. Include your phone number or email and the hours when you can be reached. You may prefer to mention that you will follow up with a phone call to arrange an interview.
