As the assistant to the District School Nurse my responsibilities included: caring for ill and injured children, medication administration, collecting immunization records and being knowledgeable in the state laws for immunization requirements for schools, vision and hearing screenings, and assisting other health aides within the district. I was entrusted in caring for students with severe asthma, diabetes, and seizure disorders. I learned to work with ease under stressful situations when medical emergencies arose with the children.
