DIGITAL/DESKTOP PUBLISHING (FROM 1985)

In 1985 I entered the world of desktop publishing; learning Freelance Graphics and PowerPoint then going on to mastering other graphic packages including PageMaker, QuarkXPress, Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign, and more, including HTML. Utilizing these skills, I have produced static and interactive materials for several companies (GE, GE Capital, Pitney Bowes, IBM, AMEX, SNET, The Gartner Group, I3Mobile, several publications and websites).

TRAINING (FROM 1983)

Throughout the course of my freelancing I have had the opportunity to train others in the use of many of the software packages I myself had learned. While working for Settlers & Traders Real Estate (Westport, CT) in ‘88, I trained staff members in the use of word processing. In ‘90-‘91 I trained executives in IBM’s EA/ISIS division (Stamford, CT) in the use of PowerPoint. As a Scout leader when my son was in Scouting (‘97–‘09) I trained numerous boys in several aspects of Scouting (my son is an Eagle Scout). From ‘01–‘02 I trained 5 th graders at Columbus Magnet School (Norwalk, CT) in the use of PowerPoint. In ‘05 I worked as a consultant at Pitney Bowes (Stamford, CT) where I trained PB’s Channel Marketing staff in the use of Quark. In 2000 I helped re-write a tech manual for a hardware phone system company in New York, then in ‘03, while working at The Hour newspaper (Norwalk), I wrote a training manual for the night pre-press staff. From ‘09–‘16, as Deputy Registrar of Voters (Norwalk) I not only trained poll workers in the use of Skype and other computer programs relating to elections, I assisted the Registrars in training moderators (state-wide) to supervise and poll workers (locally) to work at polling sites. In ‘13 was commissioned by the Secretary of the State to help re-write the training material for moderators, including developing a PowerPoint presentation and assist in the actual training.

WRITING (FROM 1983)

My first published work appeared in ‘83 and since then I have been published literally thousands of times in hundreds of periodicals, dozens of books, and on the web covering numerous topics including technology, medical/pharmaceutical, politics, relationships, pop culture, and more. I have written ad copy (web, radio, print, and direct mail), as well as press releases, and marketing material for numerous companies. I have conducted interviews, done research and indexing, profiled individuals and businesses, written and reviewed books, movies, and other products. I’ve written for publications (consumer and B2B), companies, and websites.

FICTION WRITING (FROM 1985)

Beginning in ‘85 I wrote an illustrated gag strip entitled Video Victor for Videogaming Illustrated. In ‘87-‘88 I created and wrote the illustrated espionage series Agent Unknown for Renegade Press. In ‘05 I started writing short stories to several Indie comicbook publications including Guild Works Productions, Comic Book Artists Guild, Free Lunch Comics, InkBot, Main Enterprises, Atlas Unleashed, JMG Comics, and Arcana.
