Requirement to report
• Policy driven requirement, as per the RESULTS Information Submission Specifications for Government Funded Silviculture Activities (RISS-gf),
• Broad treatments over large areas
• Why report? To track and monitor investments

What does this information get used for?
• Support to LBIP administrators
• Timber supply review
• Planning subsequent treatments
• Access management
• Preclude harvest until gains are realized

Shell Openings vs. individual Openings
• Shell openings: covers large areas, spanning many openings and areas where there are no openings in RESULTS, complete coverage (assessed, planned, treated) in one record .
• Individual openings: provides full historical context BUT
• Its labour intensive
to submit to
all impacted
openings• Area outside
openings reportedas shell opening
Shell openings spanning multiple
part openings
![Page 6: RESULTS – Fertilization Overview Interior 2012 Fertilization Meeting February 8 th, 2012 Prince George, BC Paul Rehsler, RPF Resource Practices Branch.](https://reader031.fdocuments.us/reader031/viewer/2022013011/56649e7b5503460f94b7c8b9/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Step 1: Create a shell opening Specifics:
• Opening Category – NREQ (Not Required)• Opening Gross Area – 0.1ha (minimum impacts on
reporting)• Approval Date – can be current date• No opening definition gml.
Step 2: Once the shell opening is created, add the following information
Specifics:• Set Opening Status to “FG” (District staff to set)• Set Timber Supply Block – assist in TSR & reporting

Step 3: Create the spatial submission to the shell opening• Use ESF Submission Tool to set up ESF Fertilization Treatment
xml with Activity GML Map.
Specifics: Use Opening ID as the key (not tenure information)!
EXAMPLE: Completed Treatment Activity
Mandatory data:
• Base: FE• Tech: CA• Method: HELI• Objective: CGE• Funding Source: FTL or FTM
• Completion Date
• Area Treated• Interagency Number (conditional)• Project No (conditional)• GML Map• Comments

• Fertilizer Monitoring Plots:• Mel Scott provided to Mei-Ching and Matt LeRoy who
submitted to RESULTS via ESF• Each plot was buffered to create 1 ha openings in order to
get the plots into RESULTS as polygons• Monitoring plots for each geographic area (i.e. PG) were
submitted as one opening• Coded as silviculture trials, SX silviculture base method
code, not FE• Data relevant to each project was attached to the opening in
RESULTS, i.e. detailed measurements in excel

Land and Resource Data Warehouse (LRDW)• Query the Activity Treatment SVW for silv base code = “FE” or
silv base code = “SX”• Openings SVW for openings with gross area = 0.1 ha

Key Points, Reporting Through to RESULTS:
• Geometry is required for both planned and completed fertilization activities
• We are getting lots of new shell openings with actual gross area values in the Opening Gross Area – that has an impact on reporting.
• Switch to shell opening gross area reporting of 0.1 ha• Where using an existing opening to report out on fertilization
activities use existing opening gross area

Recent Fertilizer Reporting Performance:• Completed Activities, 1100 in the last two fiscals combined (entire
province)• 157 of which provided no spatial
• Planned Activities, 255 Planned in the last two fiscals, 188 no geometry provided
