Presidents Report

Welcome to the Preliminary Finals for 2015!

We had both the Under 11’s and Under 13’s playing at Greythorn Park.

The Under 11’s started off with proceedings against Doncaster and played 4 quarters of

committed football. The Bullants were rewarded for their Team effort with a first ever Grand

Final appearance.

The Under 13’s were up against Camberwell who they able to use their height advantage

very effectively. Our boys in true Bullants spirit never gave up but unfortunately fell short.

Boys be very proud for what you have achieved this year!

It was great to see such a strong representation of Bullants people supporting our boys on

Sunday. Thank you.

Looking ahead we now have the Under 11’s & Under 12’s playing in their very first Grand

Finals.

Let’s have as many supporters there as possible to cheer on our boys, and then after meet

back to the Preston City Oval Function room to recognise their efforts on the day.

Helpers :

Thanks to all our helpers on the day

Match Report A still, partly cloudy day greeted us at Greythorn Park for the Preliminary Final against Doncaster.

To recap- Doncaster finished 2nd on the ladder and had only 2 losses- one to first place

Ashburton and one to the Mighty Bullants 2 weeks ago in the last round of the season. That day

we came out so strongly we actually stunned them on their home ground and came away with

a great victory.

To the delight of all who were gathered on Sunday, our boys came out with the same intent and

I can honestly say it was kicked up a notch. This was another 4 quarter, full team effort where

everyone made a contribution.

Once again we with stuck with the same structure we have had since the last round of the

season. We had 3 missing in action- Maxim and Jack M late outs with sickness and Xavier.

The first quarter was where the pressure was exerted from the first bounce. Nick P in the ruck,

Jordan and Luca followers. Lachlan in the centre and Phoenix and Marcus on the wings. This is a

very good combo that are working well. Steven got our first goal that really gave us momentum

and Max LT, who is having a magnificent final series, and had several touches the first quarter,

booted our 2nd goal. The first quarter could have been a real blow out as we also had about 5

behinds kicked. What an amazing start

Our backline of captains Alex and Felix, along with Henry are just doing a tremendous job. Jet

back there provides a strength, along with Jack B, Max D, Ty and Ollie that has made this a

tough line to break. When they were tested, they stood up big time.

We threw Steve into the ruck for the second quarter where he showed his power. Yianni and

Shaharyar provide real speed and punch in the midfield. It was a bit of a tussle this second

quarter, but again not one Bullant backed down. James scored a great goal, but Doncaster

snatched one back.

Half-time came and there was 34 minutes of football to go. We had the momentum and

confidence. Our players were standing up to some interesting tactics by the opposition, but Matt

and I are just so proud of the way the boys handle themselves on field and answer by playing

tough footy.

Serge was on fire in the forward line and earned himself 2 goals. Sammy runs rings around his

opponents and tackles the biggest players on field. Toby was having a great game in the

forward line as were Patrick and Christian constantly pressuring Doncaster backmen. Jack Reed

was in there as well intimidating the opposition. One passage of play that exemplified the team

all day was a centering kick from Phoenix to Felix down to Serge- solid, smart football.

But it was the 4th quarter that drove the message home that we are true contenders to go all

the way. It was a goal fest from James, Serge, Max LT and Jordan that finished Doncaster off and

sent us into the Grand Final!

These word were sent to me from a friend of mine who is a journalist and has seen a lot of footy,

as well as the draw the Bullants had against Richmond. He writes:

The Bullant boys were brilliant! It was hard to believe that we were watching an U11's game- the

commitment and level of play was outstanding. And some of the marks were fantastic.

The scoreboard told the story, but things were certainly tense in the second quarter. Your

defence really stood up- they were under siege. A big congratulations! Enjoy Grand Final week!

So- in we march to play Ashburton at Greythorn Park 12:30 Sunday. Ironically, we have not met

this season- look out Ashburton, the Bullant boys are coming!

May I say a thanks to our volunteers and praise the sportsmanship of our boys and our parent

group- an absolute credit to our club.

Preston Bullants 3 3 21

vs

Camberwell 1 7 12 54

Match Report: Preliminary Final

The Preston Bullants U13s lost the 2015 Green Division Preliminary Final but much

more importantly, they played in the Preliminary Final. Even more importantly, in

such a turbulent year, the team bonded and pulled together and played to struc-

ture, strategy and plan.

They looked like they enjoyed playing with each other and playing. Because having

fun is the least you should expect. Of course a Premiership would be nice. As par-

ents we should remember that a Premiership is a Grail. You seek it but the journey

should be its own reward. And what a journey, what a ride Emily and her assistant

coaches, Ange and David, took the team on.

There is not a player that did not grow in skill (and in height, OMG). That growth in

skill, nurtured by a caring and considered coaching team, led to a growth in individ-

ual and team confidence. The best the Bullants played this year was when they

played as a team, relying on and trusting their team-mates to deliver.

No-one is going to contest Dylan's stature as the best player in this team. However

what Tom or Ben or James T or Lawrence or Brodie or Finn or Ted or Jakeb or Jack-

son or Perry or Zac or Charbel or Darc or Jesse or Max or Matty or Jack or Leo or

James S or Daniel or Chilli or Alex bring to the game is vitally important to the team

plan, strategy and structure. There might be three I's in Individual but there are no I's

in TEAM. It might be a cliché but it holds a primal truth.

There's is room for improvement. There always is. I trust that this team trusts in itself.

This year it passed a big test, with no small thanks to Emily. The team will get better. It

already is getting better. Think of Lawrence, Ben, Chilli and Brodie (as examples).

The structures will consolidate. Each player's footy smarts will increase exponentially.

And more confidence in each other will lead to more success.

For now, well done. You are a very good team and a great bunch of boys.
