ACC Sustainability Principles
Chemistry for Sustainability
The American Chemistry Council and its
members believe chemistry plays an
integral role in solving our world’s
sustainability challenges. We are
therefore committed to advancing safe,
innovative, effective, and economically
viable chemical products and
technologies that are key to unlocking
sustainability solutions.

development to collect
and manage plastic
waste, and increase
recycling in areas of
greatest need.
Innovation to advance
and bring to scale new
technologies that make
recycling and
recovering plastics
easier and create value
from all post-use
plastics.
Education and
engagement of
governments,
businesses and
communities to mobilize
action.
Clean up to help stop
plastic waste at its
source, focusing on
cities and major rivers
that carry significant
amounts of plastic
waste to the ocean.
Supporting Renew Oceans Renew Ganga project
to aid localized investment and engagement,
designed to capture plastic waste before it
reaches the ocean.
Renew Ganga’s goal is to divert 100,000 pounds
of ocean-bound plastics in India in the first year,
and 1 million pounds in 2020.
Project Stop Objectives:
1) Zero leakage of waste into the environment.
2) Increased resource efficiency and recycling of
plastics.
3) Benefits for the local community by creating
new jobs and reducing impacts of mismanaged
waste on public health, tourism and fisheries.
