Dear Parents and Friends,

Good mornings are great mornings these days! I am noticing

many, many more of our very well-mannered children taking the time to politely say, ―Good morning,‖ to teachers and,

―Hello,‖ to their friends. Remember, quiet games when you arrive at school. Our playground is crowded in the morning,

so we need to be just that little bit more careful. Everyone

is remembering hand-tennis only, and walking on the concrete. Well done!

Thanks to Vicki Kempton and the Aspire Me To Imagine

team, four of our students in Year 5 will be departing for

Sydney on Wednesday. They will be immersed in a Creative Arts adventure which will take them on a journey to such

places as The Sydney Opera House, Sydney Entertainment Centre, Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney Harbour Bridge and

many other exciting places and events.

Cottage ByThe Sea is also drawing closer. Eleven Edward

Students will be travelling to this sea side activity centre for five days to enjoy a great holiday camp with their peers from

our neighbouring schools. They are guaranteed a great time. They will be travelling with Miss Hughes. Next week will be a

big week for them.

Our Creative Catchment Kids went off to Waring Gardens

today to enjoy the celebration of their many weeks of work on their book project. Watching our students engage in the

learning process from beginning to end has been very

rewarding for the teachers. Our students will be very pleased with their book publishing efforts, and the

knowledge and skills they have gained from this very worthwhile project. Many thanks to all staff involved in

‗bringing it altogether‘.

A few very lucky students, with their parents, will be taking

part in the Fishing Expo this week. Interest in this venture was very high and we are looking forward to some good

reports from the day.

We welcome Mr Bradley back to Edward this week and I

know he is very keen to get up to Rams Oval for the Super 8s cricket competition on Thursday and Friday. Our

students have been practising seriously on the field during

recess and lunch times. Everyone is looking forward to a

great day on the pitch.

The Excursion to the Altina Wildlife Park at Darlington Point was the ‗best day ever‘ for all of our Stage 2 students.

Seeing the animals up close was a real treat, and many a

picture was captured on their ipods. Thank you to our teachers and support staff who were very impressed with our

children‘s behaviour and learning on the day. The weather was great and everyone came home smiling (and very tired

of course.)

The little things that count grow into the big things that make

a difference. We welcomed our 2013 Kindergarteners again on Friday. We were delighted to enjoy a Tai Chi session

out in the sunshine with Mrs Morphett, after playing with the

Year 5 buddies. See you all again this week, our last week of transition.

Our Year 6 students are doing a roaring trade on Fridays

with their snow cones. The warmer weather is making them

even more popular, and everyone looks forward to them. Well done!

Honesty is the Best Policy – well done Sam Blenkiron for

handing in the handsome sum of money you found in the

playground. And Ben, remember to get your book off your desk for ‗Books For Blokes’ this Friday. Mrs Mildren will be

expecting you. Also it is time to start looking around for those library books- under the bed, behind the cupboard, on the

shelf. Borrowing will stop this week, and we will begin counting the books in the library. So bring them in as fast as

you can.

Report writing can be very rewarding for a child‘s teacher.

Reflecting on the growth in learning of each of our students is a celebration in itself. All aspects of the Key Learning Areas

are reported on in our reports, and if parents would like

further information they are invited to arrange an interview with their child‘s classroom teacher. Reports, this term, will

be going home in Week 10.

PBL – Expected Behaviours. Please look at the back of the

newsletter. There is a two sided sheet listing our playground and outdoor spaces. There is a list of the behaviours that we

expect our students to do to keep SAFE, show RESPECT and be RESPONSIBLE. We need your ideas! Cross out, and

add your ideas to the list, and put it in the values box in the

office foyer.

It is that time of the year again when our Lost Property collection increases. There are many jumpers, jackets and

cardigans in our lost property area. Please visit and collect

your items.

Library Stocktake

Stocktake has begun in the Library this week and notes have been sent out to all students regarding books on loan. Could we please have your help in locating all outstanding library books. Check the bookcase, under the bed, in the dog kennel and return to the library or the box located in the office foyer. Thank you.

School Swimming Scheme

Just a reminder for all Year 2 students to return their swimming note for the school swimming scheme which starts next Monday 26th November. Cost of the program is $12.00. Each child should bring a swimming costume, towel, rashie/t.shirt, hat and sunscreen clearly labelled in a separate carry bag. They will be changing into their dry school clothes at the end of the session.

Deniliquin High School Vacation Program

The Home Economics Faculty are running six vacation activity days for children aged 7 – 12 years in the Xmas holidays.

The dates are:

Tuesday 8th and Thursday 10th January

Tuesday 15th and Thursday 17th January

Tuesday 22nd and Thursday 24th January

The days will run from 9.00a.m – 4.00pm

Your child will make their morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea for the day in the Home Economics kitchen. All your child will need to bring is a drink bottle, sunscreen, hat and a food container.

They will have a G rated movie in the afternoon and outside activities throughout the day.

The number is capped to 14 children per day and the cost is $40.00.

P & C Meeting -we discussed the success of the Games Night and 40 Year celebrations and the great work of

everyone involved. Final numbers from the Games Night are yet to be tallied but at this stage we are hoping that the Games Night will have raised around $3700 and the Major Raffle $1000 which is fantastic!! We spent lots of

time discussing ways of using this money in the school. We decided to work with the Year 6 students of 2012 in getting a projector and screen installed in the Bradley Hall. This will be Ipod and laptop compatible and will be a

great addition. We also decided to get some tear drop banners for each of the sporting houses for use at carnivals

etc.

Next Meeting- Monday 3rd December, 2012 at 7.30pm in the staffroom. ALL WELCOME

Uniform Shop Reminder- place your orders NOW for 2013 uniform needs to avoid disappointment. Layby is

welcome- we will be open on the staff development day next year so you can pick up orders. While we have quite

a lot of stock on hand, dresses & skorts can take up to 6 weeks if we have to do an order. Please fill out the order

Hearing Impairment There are more than 400 students with a hearing impairment in NSW Public Schools. Some students may have been born that way. Others may have developed hearing difficulties as they were growing up. They may have a hearing aide, and others may have a cochlear implant. Both of these things would help a person to hear better. Sometimes it is still very difficult for a person to hear even with these things to help them.

Having a hearing impairment would be like:

• having ears that were gently stuffed with cotton wool, and then trying to

hear the teacher read you a book.

• trying to listen to the teacher talk while there was very loud music blaring.

For talking to anyone who has difficulty in hearing: 1. Look at the person’s face while you are talking to them.

2. Be at their eye level whenever you can.

3. Speak normally. Do not shout.

4. Keep your hands down, away from your mouth.

5. Make sure they can see all of your face.

6. Talk in a quiet place.

7. Make sure the sun is not shining in their eyes.

8. Find different ways of saying the same thing so they can understand you.

9. Understanding what you are saying, might be hard even with a hearing aid.
