receive an Expectation Certificate.

Caden Badstue, Connor Singleton, Eva Klaassen, Kailis Berbakov, Sia Field and Leonardo Cardeira.
Special congratulations to Dexter Berwick and Leonardo Cardeira for gaining a

Students are taking responsibility collecting their Expectation Cards that reflect our school expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Aspire. Once a student has collected 4 Expectation Cards they take them to Mrs Adrienne Bruce (Years 3-6) or myself (Years K-2).
An Expectation Certificate is then presented at respective Primary or K-2 assemblies. As K-2 assemblies take place each Friday, students need to deliver their 4 expectation cards to the red box in my office by Thursday afternoon.
Primary Assembly Thursday 2:20 alternate weeks K-2 Assembly Friday 12:30 weekly Year One Excursion to the Zoo Yesterday, Year One ventured to Taronga Zoo as a stimulus to their Literacy unit on factual writing. Their visit included a visit to Backyard to Bush with wallabies, turtles and an array of bird life, time to view the many
animal enclosures and a highlight for many, the seal show. The zoo keepers encouraged students to pat a possum and a shingleback lizard, discuss the impacts of humans on their habitat and the need to protect their environment. Thank you to the many parents, teachers and support staff who ensured this was a great experience for Year One.
Arts Alive Choral Concert Last night, I was privileged to watch our Senior Choir sing at the Arts Alive Choral
Concert at the Opera House. It was an excellent showcase of music education in public
schools. Our Senior Choir sang beautifully as part of a combined choir of 750 primary school students. Choral works were presented by a variety of composers, both contemporary and traditional pieces. Thank you to Miss Virginia Esparraga and Mrs Mona Johnson for their dedication and outstanding work with our students to attain the standard required to perform on such a prestigious
stage. We also thank our proud parents for your role in supporting our students.

considerable time organising the Book Week Parade and the guessing competition, which was greatly appreciated.
Premier’s Debating Challenge Last Friday our debating teams completed the final round of the Premier’s Debating Competition against Manly Village PS. Our Year 5 team, Hannah McIlwaine, Ally Doyle, Bella Zeppel and Max Black strongly argued the topic ‘That we should ban all people under 18 from using social media’. In a close decision the debate was
awarded to the Year 6 Manly Village Team. The topic for the Year 6 debate was ‘Kids should only be allowed to watch 30 minutes of screen time after each school day.’ The Year 6 team, Millie Baker, Jono Ryan, Rachel Ainsworth and Jesse Heriot argued the negative case and were constantly challenged to counter argue points raised. In another close decision the debate was awarded to the Manly West Year 6 team. The Partners in Learning Parent Survey Closes on Monday 12 September

Snowsports Championships Congratulations to our Manly West Snowsports Team who competed at the 2016 NSW State Snowsports Championships. For a change

Grandma Poss rode her bike back to the bush, but she sends her huge thanks for the amazing efforts all the students, families and teachers put into their costumes and for making Manly West history with the first ever inside/outside Book Parade a success! Luckily the wet stayed away so the whole school could show off their colourful creativity as so many different stories and characters came to life last Thursday. You have outdone yourselves again!
TERRIFIC reading by Dashiell Keane (5B), Daniella Phillips (5P), Chase Murray (2H), Joel Murray (4W),Chloe McLeod (4B), Piper Simons (5S), Sophie Kassel (4W), Carys McDonnell (4S), Milla Behrens (KPurple), Sebastian Nop (5P), Jonathan Ryan (6T), Amelie Adams (4G), Francisca Ferreyra (3F) and Kirsty Rey (5P) who were the final students to complete the 2016 Premier’s Reading Challenge! Your certificates will be included with your end-of-the-year progress reports. Well done, super readers – all 505 of you!
All aspiring illustrators and artists, please hand in your production program design cover entries to me by this Friday, 2nd September, 2016, to possibly win one of $5 canteen vouchers and have your design featured on the cover of ‘A Manly West Tale’ program! Remember that it needs to be on an A4 white sheet of paper, hand drawn using black and must include both ‘A Manly West Tale’ and ‘September 2016’. There will be 3 winners from K-2 and 3 winners from Years 3-6. I reckon Mrs. Johnson and I will have a difficult time judging! Good luck! Happy reading and drawing!

ABSENCES
To ensure the safety and welfare of the children in our care, BASC MUST BE NOTIFIED if a child will be absent from a booked session. Non Notification delays our awareness of any legitimate concern for a child’s safety. Also, whilst looking for children and contacting parents, our Educators are having less time with the children in their care. Messages can be written ahead of time in each room’s ‘Parent Message Book’ or by email [email protected] . We can be contacted at late notice by phone on 9948 8113. There is a Non-Notification of Absence Charge of $11 (incl GST).
We also need to be informed of both Before School Care and After School Care Absences as early as possible,
as there may be parents needing an emergency casual session. Registering With Us To register your child with us, please visit our centre’s site https://manlywestbasc.hubworks.com.au and click on ‘ENROL’. Enter your child’s details and then click ‘SUBMIT’.
