Principal’s Report

CAMP WILKIN We all had a wonderful time at Camp Wilkin. We were very fortunate to have amazing weath-er. The students excelled in the activities and adventures they had on camp. It was really pleas-ing to observe them working together to achieve in the activities and in some cases make up new games and run them. We are very fortunate that our students embrace all opportunities presented to them. I would like to thank all the staff for supporting our camping program. A big thanks to Luke Molloy who attended the camp. CLASS STRUCTURE 2020—PARENT MEETING MONDAY 11TH NOVEMBER 3:30PM I will be holding two sessions for parents to discuss class options for 2020. The sessions will be held on Monday the 11th of November at 3:30pm and Wednesday the 13th of November at 9:00am. At these meetings, I will explain the options we have for our class structure for 2020. This will allow parents an opportunity to see the planning and thinking that goes into this pro-cess. Parents will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback around the op-tions presented. REVIEW DAY—PARENT CONVERSATIONS On Tuesday the 12th of November we have our second day of our school review. The review panel would like to conduct conversations about the school with parents. These conversations will help set the direction of the school for the next four years. The conversations will be held at 9:00am on Tuesday morning in the staffroom. It would be great to see a lot of parents there. OAKS DAY LUNCEHON The Oaks Day Luncheon is this Thursday. There are still ticket available to be purchased. This is one of our major fundraisers for the year. The luncheon is always a lot of fun. Lucky tickets can also be purchased before the day. There is a form at the end of the newsletter. T20 BLAST CRICKET Last week our grade 5 & 6s competed in the T20 Blast tournament in Maryborough. Our boys team won the one games and the other games were very close. The girls team had an excellent day and WON the event. They will now compete in the regional finals on the 20th of November at Victoria Park in Ballarat. Thanks to Sue and Tim for coaching the teams. PARENT / TEACHER / STUDENT CONVERSATIONS With a change to the amount of comments on this semester reports, we will be conducting Parent / Teacher / Student conversations for parents to have the opportunity to come in and see and hear about their child's learning. The conversations will be conducted on Tuesday the 26th of November and Tuesday the 3rd of December. Booking details can be found later in the newsletter. Cameron Landry Principal

What a fantabulous time we had at Camp Wilkin

in Anglesea! Thank you for the fun times!

In the classroom…

We are focusing on Fairy Tales during writing, the

ones we know, as well as Fractured and Fixed Fairy

tales. We are linking this to Reading, finding features

in our story books and readers that fit the Fairy tale

genre.

In Maths we are again looking at number, completing

repeated addition, linking this with multiplication for

the older children.

Our Inquiry focus this term is “Making a Scene”. We

will be performing some plays, practising for concert

and singing lots of songs that link with our learning

topics.

Kindness is our focus for Respectful Relationships.

Does someone have to see us being kind to make it

worthwhile, or will we make our community a better

place just by being kind?

Grade 3/4 Weekly News

Week 5

This week in Reading we are re-visiting the reading strategy of summarising. We are focusing on deter-mining the most important parts of the text and retell-ing events in sequential order and.

In Mathematics this week we are learning about

chance and probability. We are developing the lan-

guage we use to describe chance events. We will

be exploring the concept of fair and trying to deter-

mine if a game is fair or unfair.

In Writing we are continuing to refine our use of

capital letters and full stops. We will be using the

editing process to check whether sentences are

properly punctuated and adding capitals and full

stops to show complete ideas. In Inquiry we are ramping

up our concert practise.

mance.

A huge thank you to the Foundation and Grade One students who worked with me while the senior stu-dents were away on camp. We had so much fun on our Big Night In!

Well done to all of our campers. I have heard nothing but wonderful reports on how well behaved and adventurous you all were. I am so proud of you all!

Thanks to Caroline, Tim, Sue, Cameron and Luke for an awe-some camp. We are so lucky to have such fun teachers (and parents) to pro-vide great opportuni-ties for our kids!

What’s happening in grade 5/6?

Camp Wilkin: What a great three days we had in An-

glesea at Camp Wilkin last week. It was awesome to see

all of the students having a go and challenging them-

selves during each activity.

It was also great to see everyone dressed up for our Hal-

loween Disco on Thursday night!

T20: On Tuesday last week the grade

5/6’s competed in the T20 Blast compe-

tition at Princes Park in Maryborough.

It was a cracker of a day and both teams

played some great games of cricket. The

boys were a bit unlucky in a couple of

their matches and finished the day with

one win and two losses.

Our girls team had a day out winning all

three of their round matches, before de-

feating Carisbrook in the final! They will

now move on to the next stage on No-

vember 20th. Well done girls!

Also a big congratulations to Tom Lyons

and Savanna Elliott, who both came sec-

ond in the highest catch competition!
