Description: An emergency homeless shelter for single adult men and women in Middlesex County. This is a non profit organization. The Mission of Eddy Shelter of Middlesex County is to provide leadership in identifying and promoting innovative solutions to ending homelessness, while allowing for each individuals unique capability. We accomplish this by meeting basic human needs with a warm bed and hot shower, providing skills to live in the community, resources and referrals to end homelessness and support to decrease the return to homelessness by utilizing prevention techniques. Located on the grounds of Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, the shelter has the ability to house 30 adults. The number of beds increases to 40 during the winter months. Case management is provided to shelter guests to help them obtain housing, connect them with health resources, if needed, and employment opportunities. The shelter is involved with the statewide campaign, Reaching Home, to end homelessness in the state of Connecticut by creating 10,000 units of supportive housing over the next 10 years.

You may be eligible for Section 8 Housing! Section 8 provides assistance to low-income families. If your income does not exceed 30% of the median income for your area then you be of priority. To be eligible for Section 8 housing you must be a U.S citizen or meet the requirements for non- U.S citizens, you must go over your annual income and take into consideration the household size. If you meet these requirements you can then apply for Section 8 Housing.

First you will need to

Prepare the documents needed. You can visit the website of your Public Housing Agency, or PHA, for information about which documents you should prepare. Usually, applicants are required to present proof of their income, medical bills, personal identification and other bills paid every month.

Look for available housing. The HUD website also has links to available housing units. From there, you can click your area so that you can see where there are available houses.

Contact your local housing agency. Inquire about the housing unit which you are interested in, and ask about how to apply for the housing assistance. Prepare the documents and set and appointment with their office.

They empower and encourage single parent families to available outside resources that meet the family’s requirements and criteria.
