Ramos, in August 28, 1997, in a bid to empower women, the Mandaluyong City Council declared thru Resoluon 2295, as Soropmist Week every last week of August. Soropmist Mandaluyong was Chartered in August 5, 1995 and now in its 23rd year. In a video message sent by Mayor Abalos, she menoned that the government of Mandaluyong is thankful for the work done by the club addressing the need of women specially in the nutrion programs of Mandaluyong City. Feeding Children, Teaching MothersThisinstitutionalprojectbeganin2002asinitiatedbyPastPresidentAtty.MaripazTagle-Chua.Theprogramhelpspre-schoolchildrenprepareforthenowrequiredKindergartenlevelofKto12neweducationalsysteminourcountry,asidefromimprovingandpreparingtheirmindsandbodiesthrupropernutrition,mothersofchildrenunderthisprogramaregivencookinglessonsandotherwaysthatwillhelpintakingcareoftheirchildren’sneeds.
In line with the longest running nutritionprogram of Soroptimist Mandaluyong the“Feeding Children, Teaching Mothers”,trainingcourseinHOUSEKEEPINGSERVICESwereofferedtomothersunderthefeedingprogram to provide means to alternativesource of income. The participants weregiven training in housekeeping skills andtechniques.Providedtrainingonthefollow-ingareas:Housecleaning,Laundry,KitchenManagement,DiningService,Dishwashing,useofappliances,Valuesformation.AlsoincludedisJobmatchingofpersonality,skillsandsuitability.Twentywomenwereinitiallyenrolledinthesaidprogram.
Housekeeping Skills and Techniques
Ganda Mo, Hanapbuhay KoIsadistrictlevelprojectofSoroptimistInternationalofthePhilippinesRegions(SIPR)withclubsfromtheMetroManilaEastDistrictcomposedSIMandaluyong,SIAntipolo,SIOrtigas&Environs,SISanJuaninpartnershipwith“ANG-HORTALEZAFOUNDATION,INC.,anon-stock,non-profitfoundationthatpromotesself-reliance,productivityandlocalentrepreneurshipthroughanincomegeneratinglivelihoodprogramonBasicCosmetology.
Theprogramaimstohelpwomendeveloppractical skills, theoretical knowledge andbasic professional attitude. It also assiststudentsinpreparingfortheNCIIgovern-ment accreditation body. Twenty seven(27)womenfromMandaluyongCitywereprivileged to learn hair styling, manicureand pedicure, basic make-up applicationand foot spa. The said training was heldat Mandaluyong Manpower and TrainingCenterlastNovember2016.

SoroptimistInternationalofMandaluyong“AdoptABarangay”isacontinuousprogramwithLocalGovernmentUnitsinwhichaprojectisdiscussedatthebeginningofthebiennium.ThisyearSoroptimistofMandaluyongchosetoadoptBa-rangayBurolasmallbarangaycomposedofabout2,634inpopulation.
Initially,theclubproposedfortheproject“From Backyard Farming to Healthy Eating to Market Selling.”whichaimstocreateanalternativesourceofnutritiontohelpinthereductionofhungryconstituents.IncoordinationwithChairmanErnestoSantosJr.,ThecluborganizedaseminarattheDepartmentofAgriculture,andtheQuezonCityUrbanFarmingtoteachwomenfromBgy.Burolhowtoplantvegetablesthatcanbeusedtostarturbanfarmingintheircommu-nity.
BarangayBurolhaslimitedsoilspacetogrowplants,theclubintroducedanothersystemcalled“hydroponics”orplantingusingwaterisnowbeingappliedtosucceedtheproject.Womenweretaughtthebasicsof“Hydroponics’and to recycle non biodegradable materials like plasticbottlesandstyroboxestoplantvertically.
In coordination with the Barangay officials, volunteerresidents composed of 12women are incharge in therehabilitationofthegarden.Womenareencouragedtogivetheirpersonalinsightsandcreativeideas.Theyalsothoughtofadvocatingthepracticeofwindowfarming.Forlivelihood,theprojectaimstoprovideameanstogeneratesomeincomefortheconstituentsthrusellingtheproducethatwillcomefromtheharvest.Someoftheproducewillalsobedonatedtothenutritionprogramofthebarangay.

WorkingcloselywithLocalGovernmentUnits,theCityGovernmentthruthebarangay,thePhilippineNationalPolice(WCPD)and(NGO)AteneoHumanRightsCommission,theclubalsoconductedawarenessseminarsonVAWC,HumanTrafficking,PerilsofTeenagePregnancy,TeenDatingViolence

ThePhilippineeducationsystemfromitsold10-yeartothenewK-12EducationalSystem,madecompulsorythattheKindergartenlevelto12yearswillbethebasiceducation.SeniorHighSchool(Grade11and12)specificallycovers2yearsofin-depthspecializationofcoursesforstudentsdependingontheoccupation/careertracktheywishtotakewhichare:1)academicstobeabletopursuecollegeeducationor2)vocational/technologicalcourseswhichwillenhancetheiremploymentopportunitiesforskilledlabor.
TheImpactProjectofMandaluyongClub isfocused ingivingassistanceandsupport tounderprivilegedstudentswhoareenrolledinvocational/technologicalcourses.
Byprovidingtoolsandequipmentneed-edintheirspecializedcoursesandbygivingmotivational seminars, chance are greaterforstudentstoimproveself-esteem,aswellasbeingawaretotheperilsanddangersawaitingteenagegirls.

TwopublichighschoolsinMandaluyongCitynamelyAdditionHillsIntegratedSchoolandDr.JoseFabellaMemorialSchoolarewherethechosen110girlsfromGrades10to12,werepassersofthenationalexamsandarequalifiedandinterestedtotakeupvocationalcoursesinpreparationforfutureemployment.
AclubgrantwasawardedbySIAmerica to supporttheVOCTECHASSISTProjectallocatedforthe ingre-dientsneededintheCookingandBakingClassesofJose Fabella Memorial School, tools and materialsfortheComputerClassesofAdditionHillsIntegratedSchool, Conduct of Seminars for additional trainingandpersonalitydevelopmentanduniformsandotherschoolneedsfor50students.
SIMandaluyongincorporatedtheDIBIprogramwiththeimpactprojecttoallowyounggirlsrealize
theirpotential.
Fantastic and successful best describe thefilm screening of the movie “Fantastic
BeastandWheretoFindThem”shownattheShangrila Cineplex last November organizedby SI Mandaluyong Club to promote variousprojects. The Mayor sent a video messagethanking and congratulating the club for itscontribution to the city’s success. The eventwasabletoraisefundstosupportSoroptimistprojectsinMandaluyongCity.
Like many Live Your Dream Awardsrecipient, our candidate also bravemanyobstaclestoachieveherdream.SI Mandaluyong Live Your DreamAwardeeclublevelJazel Resurreccionis a second year college student atBulacan State University taking upBachelor of Science in elementaryEducation.MajorinPreschoolEducation.
Sheworkatastall inasupermarketduringweekendsandearnsP250forhermealandtransportationallowancetobeabletogotoschool.Sometimesshewouldskipmealsortakeawalk.Presentlyavolunteerassistantteacherinafounda-tiontakingcareofchildren.Herchallengesinlifemadeherstrongerandmoredeterminedtofinishherstudies.
